From the support people I am talking with they are saying hardware and I sent them my phone yesterday so they could get to the bottom of it . It still doesn't make any sense why some are seeing the problem and some are not .

My Xs works fine when my signal is strong. Not so much when I have 1 bar. Verizon prefers weaker bands (i.e B4) over strong ones (i.e. B13). I honestly think my phone would be fine if the software simply changed the threshold at which it switched to a stronger band vs. hanging onto a weak band for dear life under all circumstances, causing dropped calls, lost voice packets with 5-10 second gaps of silence during calls, etc.

The problem is that we don't know for sure what is causing this issue . Maybe it's a combination of carriers and bands with a bad design. And that gives you a lot of possibilities.
Also remember the note 7 recall. Not all phones caught in fire besides the bad design of the battery

What should I do to check if my xs has the problem?

Check reception with low signal?

I have read that the problem coild be solved by restoring the device as new iPhone. Anyone tried?

There’s definitely a Apple/IPhone problem, my coworker and I are on the Sprint network, he has a Note 8 and I have the iPhone XS Max 256gb. We work inside a building and while his Note 8 is showing LTE it smokes my iPhone which struggles showing 3G. I have a MacBook Air, IPad Pro, Apple Watch and now the new iPhone, if Apple doesn’t fix this then I’m done with them.

They tried this at the Apple store with my Max. Still showed the same poor signal and speed.

Is this problem impacting all XS Max's? I have an XS and was considering switching. Haven't noticed any speed problems with it.

That is only a bandaid fix and the problem will soon return

I decided to open my Xs Max yesterday and test it.

So far, it seems that in areas with poorer signal (aka around my home) it does perform a little worse. WiFi I have not noticed a single issue and my equipment moves me to the 5G band and the phone stays there (Unifi AP AC Pro). In areas where this can do QAM256, etc, I see drastically higher speeds.

I will continue to test and see, I have 14 days so .. might as well.

All of a sudden my WiFi speeds seem to be back to normal.

I resumed my usual carpool rounds today and noticed I have only 1-3 bars of 4G ln AT&T where I normally have full LTE. So I texted my husband about it and he said the same was happening to him at work BUT it was also happening to his Android phone.

So...I wonder if the carriers are trying to roll out 5G in some areas...or are doing something else and this all is an unfortunate coincidence for new XS and Max owners.

I know Verizon was rolling out 5G to select areas. Plus they had service outages as I posted in a link in one of my previous posts.

My 6 Plus was a real dog, too. No insult meant to real dogs. ;) I remember how I could not wait to be rid of it. I have a Samsung S8+ I feel that way about, too. It happens. :(

My husband texted me from the school with his Max and his S9+. He was not able to park at the same spot I was yesterday when I was having problems. He said both phones seemed to be performing about the same and had similar levels reception.

I don’t know if it’s just my phone in particular or just that particular moment in time.

Just a month ago I would not have considered myself in a fringe service area. We had full bars of service from our local AT&T tower. While I was still on my 8 Plus and S9+ the signal dropped to half not just here about around the region and nobody’s so far gotten an answer.

Verizon customers may want to know this happened:

Here is the latest outage issues with Verizon. Seems to be a very large issue still.

AT&T is rapidly rolling out Band 14 nationwide right now but it shouldn't be causing any issues

I’m on T-Mobile, went from a 7+ to the XS Max on the 21st. On Sunday I was in a spot I should have had a signal and LTE yet I had neither with the Max. I started researching and saw the new issues. I’ve tried the bandaid solutions and while it seems to be okay for a few hours here and there it’s not fixed. My problem is my $300 trade in offer with T-Mobile expires by October 18. T-Mobile won’t discuss anything with me unless Apple makes an official statement. Ugh. So to return, wait, keep my 7+ just in case.

Slight grain in the moon shot - it's not perfect by any means. I do think the fog helped getting more detail of the moon. Generally the night shots is FAR better than any camera on a phone I've owned, this was just using the rear camera, no app, editing. The other photo, Black and white..I did use the Obscura app (Apple App Stores offered this as a free download) RAW, DNG image that came out far better than I imagined!

I havent taken other night shots since, I want to mess with other apps I have using slow shutter (That worked out ok with my iPhone 8+) Focos also, few others, but the weather around here has been flat out rainy and simply miserable for...what feels like months.

Day shots, the portrait mode with SmartHDR, adjusting the F-Stop...very impressive!

Last Sat. outside Apple store. (Nothing special, just testing Portrait mode, w/ F-Stop adjusting.)
