I am on 12.1 beta two and have received a carrier update to 33.5.3
Interesting to hear there is a carrier update. Out of curiosity had you been experiencing the poor LTE issues? Asking because I am curious if the 12.1 beta 2 you are on addresses the LTE problems. I am on AT&T in NYC with horrible LTE. Not sure of your location or carrier. Thanks!

There is nothing in that beta that fixes LTE issues

So here's my short report after a visit to the Genius Bar. I went in to get my XS Max replaced because of the connectivity issues (wasn't 100% happy with the screen either). They replaced it without a problem (much happier with the new screen) but they told me not to expect a fix for the connectivity issues in hardware and instead it would most likely be a software update. The Apple techs in the back told my Genius that they are collecting information (and asked for my permission to use my phone and call with questions) about this issue and working with carriers to fully support the new antenna system on the XS. So at least part of their story is that this is a matter of compatibility of the new antenna bands with carrier towers, etc. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but it certainly could be. Hope to see some improvements sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure if I believe that. The new system is 4x4 MIMO, but other phones already use that. So wouldn't the carriers already have compatibility with it?

Probably one more week for another update to see if it fixes the LTE/Wi-Fi issues.

I've called the carrier. They've re-provisioned and re-registered everything. They are sending another sim but think it won't solve the problem because the lack of signal is too consistent. He thinks something is up with the antenna. And suggested after the ticket is closed to contact apple about a warranty replacement.

I asked about a carrier update and he said he hadn't heard anything. He had heard about 12.0.1 and I told him I'd already given it a go and nothing has changed.

The thing that is weird about my dropped calls is when I try to call the person back it doesn't work. I have to shutdown and restart the phone to get another call out after a dropped call. I told Apple this as well.

And here I sit with 5 bars where it was 2 the other day.
I’m also not getting the long pause before pages load.
[doublepost=1539039557][/doublepost]I’m not sure who’s to blame.
I found it extreme odd that my reception went to crap a couple days before launch, while I still had the X. This happened right after the carrier update .

Over the last few days there seems to have been several ATT updates

If I was to look in the direction of blame it would be a collaborative effort between apple and carriers.
Limited antenna gain while manipulating the carrier information to limited the on slaughter of people streaming/surfing on their new phones

At least we know it's the iPhone and not the carriers/network.
I'm not surprised Apple is starting to tell customers that it's the carrier and not the phone.

Yeah I’ve been having an issue with LTE drop outs at full signal on the XS Max. LTE goes away (no internet) and only signal bars appear then 10 seconds later LTE comes back. Apple said to call Sprint, Sprint says it’s Apples problem. Didn’t have the issue with the X.

Apple is so lame for using junk Intel chips!

Has there been any difference between the XS and XS Max in terms of connectivity. I notice more people complaining about the Max but not sure if that’s just because the max has been selling more.

I don’t think I’ve had the massive problems that everyone else has had, although I have noticed some improvement since the new beta. I’m on AT&T in Phoenix.

I think the reason there’s no official statement from apple is because it’s inconsistent.
My max is running fine, great even. The faster modem is like night and day vs my X.

My girlfriend however had endless problems with her XS. We got it replaced over the weekend at the apple store. No questions asked even though it’s outside the 14 day window. They said there were collecting devices to send to engineering.
Her replacement phone. No issues. I ran Speedtest on the new phone and it’s 4x the old one.

So I think there’s a bad batch of them. I would suggest anyone with issues get it replaced.

It this right here which makes me think about ordering again.
What color/storage size are the phones?

Mine was 256 Silver XS Max I had LTE issues reset everything, replaced the SIM card nothing fixed it as soon as I would go to make a phone call it drop from LTE to 3G before and after the sim card replaced and resetting the phone. I have ordered an XS gold hoping that I won't have the same issues otherwise it will go back and I will just wait until the issue is resolved as the phone it too expensive not to work correctly. I am in Canada in the city and my iPhone 8+ didn't have any problems.

I also worked with Apple support after all the stuff that was done trying to fix the phone Apple told me to return it.

Mine I sent back was 64GB White/Silver Xs regular. Besides signal issues mine had a yellow screen and Bluetooth didn't work.

There is no rhyme or reason to this. All carriers, all varieties. The culprit could be a component from a vendor.
Of all the years I could have decided to ditch Android

Can you share your modem firmware details. also manufacturing date?

I just did the update to 12.0.1. Confirmed that LTE still stinks. Here is a photo comparing my wife's iPhone 8 to my Xs (non-max). Tests done at same time.

So, 12.0.1 fixed my WiFi speeds. on 12.0 I was getting about 20-25mbps on WiFi from my 3TB Apple Time Capsule with both 2.4 and 5Ghz on the same SSID, when it should have been 180-250mbps.

On 12.0, if I connected to an older Airport Express that I use as a 5G access point on the other end of the house, wired to the TC with about a hundred feet of Cat5 cable, my speeds would be 90-95mbps.

Now, when connected to the time capsule my speeds are back to 180-200 mbps, and my 5G access point is still running about 90 mbps.

As stated before, my iPhones have all had bad LTE service on Cheyenne Mountain near NORAD for the past 13 years living here, where we had to use a microcell before we had WiFi calling.

But my Xs Max performs slightly better when set to only use LTE than my Qualcomm iPhone X on AT&T (or my old 7+ that I just sent my brother). When my X was my primary phone, I would always turn off LTE when I got home, if I wanted to use it in the neighborhood without WiFi.

With the new device, what’s the signal like in areas that struggle? My Qualcomm iPhone X does really well in an area where I visit family. AT&T and Sprint, both nonexistent. 6s, 7+ and now the X... signal quality got better and better. I like the camera on the Xs but lower signal quality in struggling areas is an absolute dealbreaker.

WiFi problems are gone for me totally with the 12.01 update.

Not necessarily odd, perhaps unusual. I’ve been working to try to narrow down bands, signal strengths, specific towers and more for a while. Some observations I’ve had are below. I’m making no conclusions yet.

I am in a rural area that has towers from my provider spanning two markets. As such, those in my west side are handled by workers in one geographical are while those to the east have another. This is important because sometimes when markets conduct upgrades or maintenance, one will star and even finish before the other even begins.

When I got the XS Max on release day I noticed absolutely ****** LTE. I had a 7 and a 6s with me at the time. Both of those were killing the XS in speeds and signal on a drive I make frequently. As I’m rural I know where the dead spots are so even with that in mind it was bad.

This weekend and today I’ve noticed that the phone is equal to the others in speeds now when making the same trip. (Thanks to my husband for putting up with my mobile lab and driving me back and forth!) There were two small discrepancies that occurred on a single tower in one area. I’ll figure that out soon.

Now, going east I have fantastic signal on the XSM until I get to a location where I had bad signal inside. No data, failures and so on. The other phones were fine. Then, an oddity. All the phones had full signal indoors and absolutely no data. So that problematic tower seems to be undergoing maintenance or failure of some sort.

I’ll update more as I have anything to add; but, the point here is that I think there is some provided tweaking that needs to be done. Perhaps these phones aren’t in the system as they should be. That would help explain why I had early failure in one direction (market) and not the other and how I can identify specific towers with weirdness now.
