Pixar uses a multitude of software and systems for its animations. Its likely they use both the new Mac Pro as well as Linux.

http://www.businessinsider.com/pixar-uses-apples-mac-pro-to-make-films-2014-1

Random posts from some website is not definitive proof of what they use.

The guy, Craig Good who replied and commented whether Pixar uses the New Mac Pro, is a filmmaker, writer and voice actor has done some work with Pixar Movies like Toy Story, Brave etc. Likely he has an idea on the setup Pixar Studios uses.

Yes, but those are 4-core cpu's. And the several nvidia cards are non GTX types. Thanks anyway pl595 :)

for me personaly , its going to be a self made system with hand picked components if it will not be a apple machine.
I just mentioned it because HP already offers something close to what you said would be ideal for you in a Mac Pro. It was not my intention to suggest you should buy one.

Ow sorry. I mis-understand you than. Yes, it would be an nice system in between for the Apple line without an screen.

In the end: its 60 / 40, telling us on this Mac forum that a lot of people dont like the new Mac Pro, in all kind of ways.

Maybe, if the system was not like it is right now, a lot of us overhere in this topic where Mac Pro buyers (like me). For those who want to defend this poll exit that the nMP is not a failure, it doesn't matter. What ever Apple create, you probably will worship it. Thats not bad, but sometimes i miss some healthy criticism.

Their will be always arguments to tackle an negative exit poll to fit your needs. Its just like an religion. :) For me, the exit poll shares my feelings and sadly even drifting me to "the other side", which makes me thinking over again about my phone, tablet and other systems as well (apple eco system)

I am pretty sure Apple wont mind that i leave, 20 others join and buy a nice iMac for there home and average tasks. I have to find my professional needs elsewhere.

I am off in this tread. Have a nice end of the year foks! be safe. ;)

Why in every Apple debate does someone have to say this?

This poll isn't representative of the actual Mac Pro user base, 1st is obviously manipulated, too many voters are people which accounts have no post or very few posts (dormant clones) an old trick to deviate polls. Second to be representative this poll should be addressed to Mac Pro users and most Mac Pro users comes here very infrequently (usually when in a trouble).

Here are trolls that compare the nMP with the 14/15s iMac, it's not fair since the iMac is an newer device, they don't compare the nMP will the oMP at late '13, I like they repeat the comparison with the e16 nMP hopefully updated.

The fact is that Apple' s topical pro users are different to Linux/Wincrap Pro, while there are few pros using Macs for protein folding and very specialized cad/cam applications that are cpu monsters, actually are very few, the vast majority is running music related applications or 3D related applications, also 4K video edition is not usual on Mac Pro s most likely on iMac retina.

Apple designed the Mac Pro they need to sell not the one few trolls said they need or could be (I'd like to know how many long tongue here are really Mac Pro users or workstation users indeed, I believe there are either a pack of topical obsessed trolls Anti-mainstream or just few rival diy pro-workstation salesman arguing against the main competitors).

I don't have to check to know youre stretching knowing darn well it doesnt work as well.

You should, otherwise you argument are biased by ignorance.

That's irrelevant, latency is higher. And overshooting the bandwidth requirements always makes for a better experience than just fitting within it. It's a designs pretext, and if you don't know it, I do.

Thunderbolt don't increase latency once the interface is up, as usb does, further pcie don't warrants you have all the lines available you maybe on a x16 slot and having x1 lines, Thunderbolt gives you flexibility that pcie don't have you don't need to unplug hardware to get full bandwidth on other interface when are not concurrent (you can have many kinds of capture devices plugged and have full bandwidth when you select one or two of these).

Capture device dont have actual benefit or drawback on working on an interface with 2x the bandwidth or 1x the bandwidth they are more affected by secondary buses as the storage or memory interface where the nMP wins (faster DDR4 and at launch it had the fasted storage as will have again soon as the updated nMP introduces NVMe SSD blades).

Ludicrous. Hey, another solution is to RAID things together through the USB3 ports. And you know what, it's pretty much as asstastic a solution as you propose above. Plain and simple, the nMP is slower.

1st usb3 is neither as stable as TB2 or have competitive bandwidth. If you want speed you shouldn't have to be complained on the configuration as long is valid, and TB on any way is faster than SATA, again you lose.

LOL you fail to see that the new iMac itself is better than the nMP.

Check again when the updated nMP comes out.

(I love arrogant people)

I keep hearing this...what you basically are seeking are people who have bought a nMP. This ignores those who would have bought an updated cMP or those who bought a nMP because they're tied to Apple and have no alternative.

Perhaps because these pros find Apples pro offering unacceptable for such tasks. Even the cMP began to lose its advantage around the 2010 model release. This just illustrates your failed thinking: You dismiss the potential Mac Pro buyers who find Apples offering unsuitable.

isn't your main beef with mac pro is that it's xeon based?
idk, of all the different complaints out there, i think "mac pro should have i7 & non-ecc ram" is one of the weaker ones.

or- if mac pro had i5/i7 cpus, you'd probably see these poll numbers leaning even more towards the failure side.

Not exactly, but this poll to be representative should have been on the cover of some mainstream Apple-mac related publication or portal.

About Apple misses to address ALL their POTENTIAL users, thus is true, but no one can make happy everybody ever, to do that Apple should release an "B" mac pro with dual socket cpu and dual GPU cards and 1500W psu (the only wrong I the nMP is about psu and cooling aren't enough for real heavy long loads), this "B" Mac Pro will appeal to about 2-3 % of the nMP buyers (amid being 50% bigger at least), do Apple will sell enough this to justify it's development? NO.

I've a critic to Apple on the nMP this should be Amazing they to release a Gamer-Mac With the nMP form factor will sell very fast and kicking game development targeting OSX users.

Yep! A lot of foks dont need Xeons / ECC memory / dual GPU (which cost also a lot of money). But they are in the need of real muscle. So, the only option would be an all-in-one iMac option or go for an 6 - 7000 euro machine and take the loss that 1 gpu will run Idle for most of the time + i still have to invest in storage. Sounds like an bad investment as its my only option after the iMac, i rate it as an failure. The missing machine in the middle, isn't there and will never come.

We disagree.

Well, we will never know, do we?

ps, not just an i5/i7. The i7 6 and 8-core CPU's with high clocked cores reaching the 4Ghz + HT, are not for fun. They deliver a lot of horepower. PS, you forgot the lack any Nvidia options.

In the end, it doesn't matter. Apple will not deliver and I have to move on. After reading a lot of good reviews about W10 i am even getting a little bit excited. Fresh start and tons of options. Leaving OSx is what i fear. The rest are just computer parts.

Apple could create a low end MacPro with an i7 and non-ECC Ram at a lower price point, and still keep the Xeon's on the high end.

Like they did with the low end 1.8Ghz G5 Powermac's that only had PCI slots instead of PCI-X slots.

But I wouldn't go so far as to say Apple should drop the Xeon in favor of the i7. I think that would be a failure, the Xeon is the workstation CPU, to not offer it in the MacPro would be laughable.

i think the people who like calling their computer "my rig" don't like nmp
: P

LMBO ... you may be on to something here Flat.

I must say .. I LOVE the term RIG as it makes me think of the Powerful Tractors pulling freight up and down our highways. I have to say though I am so in love with the NEW Mac Pro I can't hardly stand it. I was a little torn at first because I don't like cables and clutter on my Desk till I realized ... IF I really had need of transfer speeds faster than Wireless AC to go with a 1 TB Flash drive ... Firewire is daisy chainable like our old Scuzzy cables back in the day. Factor in the Killer under desk Expansion boxes the size of our Mac Pro Classics and I can't see how someone can not get what they need. There sometimes seems to be cheaper alternatives like the Hackintosh but then I visit a really popular site for them and I am reminded of all the issues I had like trying to figure out Clover. I had rather just buy a good used 6 or 12 Core Mac Classic myself if you can't afford the Tube and ... those Babies absolutely can Rock the title ... "RIG" all day long.

What do you run by the way?

Here is what I think Everyone may love to see ...
And while were injecting a plain ol MAC to fit between the PRO and Mini .... hows about we bring the NEW XSERVER with up to 4 7 Series Xeons and hot swappable GPUs in cases just like the Hard drives so you can use either like this ...

That way you can satisfy the guys who want more than the Mac PRO.

I'm saying if someone really wanted to they could add Thunderbolt to the cMP however they've probably determined it's not worth the expense given there is an easier, somewhat comparable alternative (USB 3.0/3.1). Let me give you an extreme example: Someone could build an entire system onto a card which would then plug into a PCIe slot. Would this be overkill? Certainly. Would it be cost effect? Most likely not. But it is possible.

PL595 is right. Someone did provide Thunderbolt for the cMP.
http://www.sonnettech.com/product/legacyproducts/echoexpressse_10gbeadapter.html

But .... how bad do you need it .. that really determines the Cost effectivieness. This card also brings the Thunder to the PC side as well if you decide to go that direction later on.

What do you expect? We're here in a Mac forum not a mainstream Apple-mac related publication or portal.

You keep defining the nMP based on what it is instead of what it was. The cMP appealed to more buyers because of its versatility. The nMP lacks some of that versatility and therefore is not as appealing to as large an audience as the cMP did. Yet you continue to define the nMP as the narrow market it has targeted instead of looking at the market it once had.

Take the long desired x-Mac...it "is" a cut down version of the cMP...single processor, smaller, maybe even non-Xeon parts. Yet just about everyone was resigned to the fact Apple would never make such a system. So people ended up buying the cMP because, even though it may have been more than they needed, it was the only system which could be upgraded / expanded. Now that option is no longer available. Even though their desired system wasn't available they could purchase an alternative which gave them everything they wanted despite offering more than they required.

I've a critic to Apple on the nMP this should be Amazing they to release a Gamer-Mac With the nMP form factor will sell very fast and kicking game development targeting OSX users.
nMP is a great little system. Its only "failing" is that it's no longer a CMP or that a cMP type offering isn't available from Apple any longer.

While I love to hear about how I'm right I think you need to take another look at the product you've linked to. It's not a Thunderbolt card for the cMP but rather a 10Gbe adapter card which installs into a PCIe expansion chassis and connects to a Thunderbolt port on a Mac which already has Thunderbolt.

Don't go yet ... If you are leaving ... Are you going Hackintosh or Full Blown Windows or Linux? Would love to speak to you in person. I may just be hard headed or just another one of those Apple Fan boys but I hate to see someone NOT be able to use their Platform of choice and ECO system due to limited Hardware availability. No one .. not even Apple knows what the future holds .... we may all be wishing we had A computer before its over but .... I am also encouraged to believe NONE of us are smart as ALL of us. Between Linuxcoolguy, Flat Five, PL595 and others ... there has to be an answer to you wish but in the END it is really up to you to amke thes decisions. I have less that $800 in my current "RIG" running El Capitan with my Apple Eco system and find myself happier that I have ever been.

Hit me up sometime
