So my wife has exchanged her iPhone 6S Plus with me cause I was browsing on her phone more than she was using it. She is not very particular about those micro lags and all that syncing stuff...must be nice being her...care free
Anyway...
Maybe it's just been awhile - is Safari on iOS all that great? I switched to Chrome long before I switched to Android and haven't really missed Safari.
Safari is great on iOS. It is very smooth, fast and can have ad blockers. Plus if you have a Mac, Safari syncing via iCloud. Great! I know Firefox can do the same as well but it is a kludge; both on my Mac and the Note 5. On my Mac, browsing on it eats through my battery cause Firefox causes the processor to spin up. I can see that courtesy iStat Menus. I suspect on the Note it is the same cause it is usually on the top of my battery charts. And of course, on Safari, you do have that nice looking dictionary I so long for on Android. It is a little buggy though when other apps use the Safari browser..e.g., Feedly
Two is already done on Nexus devices. It's really not that complicated. Chrome on android is great.
In my experience, it still lags and wails. And on the Note 5, it is a bigger battery killer than even Firefox. And most importantly, it does not support ad blockers.
Chrome on nexus devices is good. On Samsung devices it's Rubbish. The stock browser is a lot better.
+1. Just shows that the whole iOS story of optimised software is not junk. The optimisation to device does matter after all despite the all powerful JVM. The Samsung browser is really a good example of how optimised software can make a difference in the Android world. Pity it does not support ad blockers.
How is Chrome on android good? On my 5X it's slow to load and I can't have an ad blocker.
On the Note 5 thread, someone mentioned "
nochromo" which is basically Chrome with an ad blocker. I did not get to try it on the Note 5 and my wife is happy with the Apus browser anyway. Maybe worth a shot?
So far on the iPhone 6S Plus, it has been good. What is amazing is that this thing has got really great standby time. At the end of 2 days, I still have 60% left whereas on the Note 5, I am at 70% at the end of day 1. The Note 5 was probably spending way too many CPU cycles ...either due to a bad app (though I use the same apps on iOS and Android) OR due to an Android process doing something unnecessary for the user but necessary for Google. Not sure but even the Samsung built Doze feature in the Note 5 did not help.
Other issues with iOS remain though. Primitive share capabilities is at the top. Lack of customisation is the other (so much white everywhere!). Just today, I wanted to snip a screenshot...missed my Note 5 stylus.
Fast wireless charging on Note 5 was beyond awesome! iPhone seems to charge at a snail's pace....
My chromecasts are suddenly not being used much...Yet to find decent casting apps for music and video on iOS. Android has plenty of these. And I refuse to buy Apple's overpriced Airport express!
I am constantly trying to get out of Apple's eco-system; I have given up on Windows and resigned myself to the Mac...do not want to give up on Android.
