No it isn't, most reviews call the 11>XR a decent upgrade. Improved ram, chip, 2nd camera, upgraded main camera, more battery, the fact that the 11 at launch received a price cut and was cheaper than the XR at launch despite being an obvious improvement, etc etc, is not "extremely insignificant", literally, everything was improved except the display. You obviously just dislike all phones except the XR, and your comments about the SE show this. The 11 sucks, the SE sucks, the iPhone 8 plus sucks, the 12 is too expensive. Only the XR is amazing? This loyalty to a very specific, and very forgettable iteration of a phone is bizarre.

That’s a complete lie. All the reviews said at the time that it was an extremely minor upgrade over the XR, which it was, still is and always will be. It’s well known to be the smallest upgrade between any two iPhones

By the way, I never said the 11 sucks, just that it’s an insignificant upgrade and it’s position in the lineup is bizarre in the context of the 12 being available. The SE and 8 plus are utter garbage though, I’ll happily own that

You can show all these sales charts, but they don’t mean anything as this was from before the 12 was released. Now the 12 is released, the position of the 11 in the lineup is very bizarre

Also the XR wasn’t forgettable, on the contrary. It was the trailblazer for the 11 and 12 and brought FaceId to everyone. Not to mention having the nicest colours on every iPhone and being the spiritual successor to the awesome 5C, but much better

The trend is that the average length of support is increasing. The 4S certainly did not get 7 years of support by the way. The 6S will have had 6 years and counting. The XR is a dramatically more powerful phone so it’s not a huge stretch to say that it would be supported for 10 years
The iPhone 4s received IOS support from October 2011 till July 2019, from IOS 5 till 9. Over 7 years of support. This an easily verifiable fact you can google on your super phone XR. The XR will not be receiving IOS support till 2030, there's no precedent for an iPhone to receive support for 12 years till 2030. I can't even imagine a 3gb phone in 2025 never mind 2030.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone the XR at Apple’s price, if they wanted to pay less I would tell them to get the 11. The camera alone with night mode is enough reason to get the 11 over the XR and that’s next to the faster processor, extra camera, longer software support, etc. So for me it’s either the 11 or the 12’s that I would recommend ;)

What are you talking about? ios10 dropped support for the 4S in 2016, that’s 5 years not 7 lol

Its entirely possible for the XR to receive updates for 10 years seeing as the 6S is still receiving them and is far less powerful than an XR

Your precious extra GB of ram won’t make any difference for longer than that, seeing as 2 is completely fine today, so the 3 in the XR is more than enough!

Lol, the 5C is widely regarded as the worst iPhone apple ever released; you are just a bundle of bad ideas ain't ya? The iPhone XR is completely forgettable; people will remember the 11 for being the first phone/series in apples line up to offer an ultra-wide camera. Your definition of "insignificant upgrade" is very selective when the 11 improves over the XR in terms of battery, processor power, camera, wifi/connectivity, price, ram. The only thing it doesn't improve on is the display, but someone considering the XR/11 isn't going to care about its 828p resolution. Is display the only upgrade that can be considered significant? Maybe its time to gain some humility and recognise that people upgrade their phones for different reasons, that the sales disprove your point, and speak to the idea that consumers like these "insignificant upgrades".

Even the small upgrade to portrait mode benefitted me greatly. I can take portrait photos of my pets on my 11, can't do that on an XR since portrait mode only works on human faces.

The XR is a fantastic deal at that price. When you consider what they charge for the 6SSSS

Buddy. It's the year 2020, we ALL have google and safari, so why are you disputing undisputable facts. I never said it received IOS 10 but that it received support for over 7 years, which is true.

The Xr was a nice upgrade in a lineup with the 8 from older devices. Better internals and LTE support than older devices on ATT and T-Mobile. But if camera is important in a cost effective matter, the 11 is worth the upgrade from the Xr.

Look, I’m sorry if you’re annoyed about the fact that the 12 has come out, and that is a very big upgrade over your 11, because it has like, you know new features

that’s what the 11 lacks in relation to the XR, any new features. Ok it does have a better camera but that really is about it. And it’s not like the XR camera is bad.

it’s for those reasons the 11 was widely noted on release for being an extremely limited upgrade in relation to the XR. And I’m sorry but the XR is anything but forgettable. The 11 will always be in its shadow in terms of how they are remembered

I don't say its a bad phone for its time period, or a bad phone at all. I just don't think its better value than the 11. I couldn't think of a circumstance where I would recommend the XR over the SE or the 11. I think the SE and 11 both fit the respective budget/midrange markets apple are aiming for very well.

Haha you’re joking right. iPhone 11 is WELL worth the $100 premium over the aging iPhone XR, for all of the reasons clearly stated many times by others in this thread. I’d say the XR is the worst option in the lineup right now and will probably be gone next year. You obviously own an XR and have a hardon for it because nothing you are saying makes any sense. 5c was wack plastic garbage and the new SE is better than the XR for anybody who prefers Touch ID not to mention a faster processor and smaller size. The 11 has dual cameras with night mode, faster processor, will be supported for longer, etc and is only $100 more. Your outdated XR is the one that should be cut from the lineup.

The 5c under performed expectations, yes. And since 32 bit only had shorter life than the 5s that came out that year. But I would through out the 3G as the worst phone. Such a short lifespan, too little specs. Technically, the original was worse, no 3G, but at least it was the first.

That’s really clutching at straws mate. By “support” I was not referring to whether it received some random patch in 2019, but whether it will run the latest iOS. Maybe I should have spelled that out to you, but I suspect you knew that anyway

Agreed. Also considering the fact that the 11 has 4GB RAM, U1 chip, WiFi 6, and a lot of other similar hardware to the 12, we will probably see the 11 and 12 get support for a similar amount of time.

I'll be replacing my 11 with a 12 pro, so I have no issue with the 12 series beating the 11; iPhone iterations aren't football teams we cheer for, and they should be objectively better than the previous version. I have no specific loyalty towards the 11 or any other iPhone I've owned unlike you with the XR.

I've listed the numerous ways the 11 was an upgrade over the XR multiple times, and it isn't just limited to the camera. I won't bother listing anything else, because you will choose to ignore the facts. Other people can decide, and we will see how late 2020/early 2021 sales look. But I will bet that the 11 will firmly beat the XR in sales, as will the SE 2020.

One thing I will say is that every "minor" upgrade adds up, and can really mean a lot to a specific person depending on the circumstance. Additions of extra ram, processor, a 2nd camera are objectively good upgrades. But for me, the minor addition of being able to take portrait photos of my pets was a very good upgrade over the XR. Which shows these minor upgrades can bring a lot to specific people.

When SE2 Plus launches, the XR will probably be gone. Even for Apple, selling a single camera smartphone without Night mode for $500 in 2021 will be difficult.
Depending on the price/internal specs of the SE2 Plus both the XR/11 could be gone; it'll probably be an improvement over the 11 but at a similar price. It's rumoured to be out late 2021 also, so the XR would be 3 years old, 11 2 years old, wouldn't be unrealistic for both to go. Will be interesting to see how apple specs such a model, touch ID on the power button, maybe an improved 1080p LCD, would be a good sell.

11 will definitely be a huge seller in 2020 and beyond because it offers 2 cameras, Night mode, great battery life and a fairly recent CPU with a 6.1 inch screen and it's $230 cheaper than the current 6.1 inch offering (regular iPhone 12).

Oh that is quite the stretch rest assured. A decade is not going to happen.

I don’t know what all you people who are saying the 11 was a huge upgrade have been smoking. The camera is literally the only difference. That’s not a big upgrade in my book. The XR was more advanced for the time it came out than the 11

As for the SE? 2014 called and it wants its phone back LOL

Well said. The xr is a bit boring for today’s standards.

It’s “literally” not the only difference, and whole lists were made earlier in the thread with additional upgrades that you have ignored.

SE is the ****. I just bought one and wouldn’t have it any other way. It has a faster processor than your XR, it fits in my pockets with ease, and I can use it with one hand and a mask on.
