iTunes Now Crashes on Podcast Download!

So I've gone from a rock solid iTunes, to the latest iTunes and although it seems OK for most stuff, it just crashes when updating and attempting to download the latest Podcasts I have subscribed to.

I've had to disable automatic updating and found that the only way to update the Podcasts is to update each stream individually (56 of them).

If I hit the 'refresh' button, it just crashes!

Everything is working well for me and I love iTunes DJ - the request feature is amazing.

Just tried it and all worked ok!

iTunes 8.1 works great for me. It's much faster on startup and shutdown. It even seems quicker when I want to go to my shopping cart.

I noticed one little quirk. The artwork viewer sometimes shows the last piece of cover art I have stored for a song. Prior to this update the art viewer ALWAYS showed the first cover art item, then of course you can page through them using the arrows. Now the behavior of the artwork viewer is unpredictable.

There's another longstanding bug which was not fixed. Coverflow often does not sync-up with the artwork viewer. Sometimes Coverflow will show album art that isn't even in that song's artwork. I wish Apple would fix this.

Still, I'm happy for the speed bump here :D

OK, I have a specific user interface-related request for those who have 8.1:

When you turn on the mini player (+ button)... can you use your mouse's scroll wheel to adjust the volume when the cursor is over *any* part of the miniplayer, or just the volume slider? The former was a feature of 7.x (and many previous versions) and reverted to the latter in 8.0... if someone could test I'd be much appreciative!

EDIT: Thanks Jetson for testing it out (see post #188 below)

Love the CD-import thing.

Deleted an album brought in under the plain-vanilla sound and reloaded with iT+ and ... quite a difference (I have a good ear).

Thanks, Apple!

Much faster to launch. I still have to reimport my library as iTunes+ but it's worth it. I noticed the difference between my 128kbps and 256kbps of iTunes Store purchases.

iTunes 8.1 is working perfectly for me!! :)

And, BTW, the ability to import at 256 AAC has been available as a custom import setting for a long long time! For 8.1, all Apple did was simply made a specific menu selection for "iTunes Plus". Which, BTW, defaults to Variable Bitrate Encoding (VBR) being turned ON. I prefer to leave it off.

How can I go back to previous version? New one is a mess, if I use a slider it messes everything. Here the pics how it looks. Equalizer is not clickable at all, can not be used. I tried ti remove it and set up 8.0.2, but it said it could not read the library as it was created by a newer version.

you could throw some bitchin parties with your computer hooked up to the sound system, and a couple ipod Touches(tethered to the table) with this dj stuff.

Imagine the dj stuff with genius, and a subscription service:eek:

Gosh, you are right. The equalizer doesn't work anymore.

I never used it anyway, but this thing is broken.

The mouse scroll wheel only works when the cursor is over the slider.

I never knew this feature existed before :)

AutoFill hurray!

I've waited for years to have AutoFill making its way to iPod and iPhone. I hate creating Smart Playlists that don't update themselves when I plug in my iPod/iPhone. Anyone tried whether it works as claimed?

i wish itunes wouldnt have to load my album art one by one in grid view every single time i open iTunes. Maybe im not saving the artwork in the right place? Usually if iTunes does not have the art, i will google search it, import into iphoto, save it to an event, and then go into itunes and manually add it. Do ones FROM iTunes need to be re-loaded? hmm

It seems you can use multi-touch now? I read three-finger swipe works in the iTunes store. Any other gestures?

I actually notice a big difference in speed. Might just use it more often and not just for syncing for the iphone. :D

Itunes 8.1 (Ipod unreadable)

On two separate Macs that were being updated at the same time,
both iPhones and iPods associated with each Mac are UNreadable!!

iTunes is demanding that they be restored to factory settings..

So, everyone out there...
before you start praising the new iTunes, plug in your iPhone/iPod!

Minor UI changes

Anyone noticed that Safari 4 Beta and this new version of iTunes has a yellowish tint (especially on the buttons and Grid mode bar) on their interfaces?

I thought people hated the iPhone 3G's warm color screens, and now Apple plans to do this for Snow Leopard?
