Why would you use either? If you are importing CD's, do yourself a favor and use Apple Lossless. Its a nice step inbetween wav/aiff size and compressed. It will also take less time. Quality is outstanding.

Don't cripple yourself by turning lossless cds into aac.

i could try it. But say a 6 min song is 11.9 mb how much more would a apple lossless file be? Not that its a HUGE deal with space as i use an external hd for that. But i am wondering if its worth the extra space.

I use senneheiser HD 555'S, i would possibly notice.

My apple Tv will not sync now, and It is telling me I have two app updates but can't connect to the store. :(

Maybe post jobs era... wed releases ?

He's only on leave.
So the the town hall meeting monday signs off on release.
they then have to courier the product and pigeon to steve somewhere sunny in the pacific, for his sign off.
By the time word get back to Headquarters it's to late to hit for tuesday release.

So Wednesday it is.

Either that or Tim Cook has Monday off for Canteen at his kids school to make up for all the weekends he's working at the moment and moved the town hall to Tuesday.

Can't Update Apps

My iTunes instantly received that I had 3 apps that needed updating, but when I click at the bottom to go on to update, it searches for iTunes for a minute before then spitting back that it could not connect! When's 8.1.1 coming?! This is ridiculous.

It's obviously a server issue. Try buying or updating apps on the iPhone itself and it can't connect either right now.

Edit: Looks like it's back up now.

Multiply how many people you've seen comment on this thread about the iTunes store times 1,000, or even 1,000,000 and that's how many people are trying to access the iTunes servers, no wonder it's having problems

EDIT: however I just bought a MC Chris cd from the iTunes store and had no problem

Awesome! This is just the fix for me.

I don't use the genius feature, but ripping in the Plus format will be nice.

No, its not lighter... its duller. compare here the buttons on itunes with another window.

iTunes launches much faster, also iPhone back-up and sync improved speeds. Can't connect to store though, I guess we'll have to wait till the mad rush is over to connect and download remote update.

Drat. Now I have to look for a hacked installer so I can use it on WinXP x64. I had just found one for 8.0.2, too. :(

The album cover tile view (not Cover Flow) was interesting when I first saw it, but scrolling was way too choppy. It seemed like iTunes would have to load album covers every time the pic was shown on screen, so even if you scrolled through your entire library and then went back again the other direction it was still just as slow going back. Meanwhile Windows Media Player 11 was smoother once it had loaded all the covers. If Apple has done something similar now with their version it should be a whole lot more usuable.

I like how they're billing this iTunes Plus import feature like it's new or something. I just recently changed to 320 kbps bitrate for my CDs and was getting ready to rerip all my albums once I got my new hard drive installed.

The traffic lights are definitely lighter, Tiger-style, and down right ugly.

iTunes is the first image, the the Finder and Safari 4 following.

New itunes!

My quick experience (using windows :( feel free to donate some money)

Much faster! It doesn't help that I need a computer upgrade in the worst way, but itunes...actually works. much faster load times with about 20,000 songs, not sure how many movies, tv shows, and all that. The only thing that seemed to be lacking was a decrease in sync time on my ipod classic. I would assume firewire would make a huge difference but that's a different story.

Very pleased with the upgrade. no problems yet.

i have not restarted my mbp or anything, but is it possible its loading faster because iTunes was already in the ram from when you opened it earlyer?

i'll check it out tomorrow or something. I would really love to get rid of those 40 second opens of itunes haha

....I restarted between my comparisons so doubt it.

Oh my god

I have a pretty slow comp, compared to the Intel machines, and have been hating iTunes 8, with 55-second loads.

NINE SECONDS

8.1 FTW!!!

EDIT: It runs even faster than 7.7 in every other task! I am shocked so easily, because 8.0.2 was so useless.

I think a lot of people seem to be focusing on a possible slight color change while no one has been able to tell me how to access a feature that was noted in the update by Apple, that really seems ridiculous to me.

How do you use Genius with TV shows or movies?
