My iphone 7 screen is absolutely amazing when placed next to my 6s. The colors really punch beautifully with the improvements they have made and it makes the 6s look dull and colorless in comparison.

My wife and i thoroughly enjoy the new home button. When the phone is powered off the button feels like pushing on any other part of the phone but when turned on the taptic engine works like a charm and makes it feel just like you're pressing a button. Absoutely wonderful and i cannot wait for apple to do away with the actual button altogether and perhaps increase the screen size with the "home button" integrated into the screen.

I'm also not seeing what the complaints about speed are all about .. The phone is blazing fast and ready for developers to throw whatever they have at it!

Overall, I love the incremental improvements over the 6s and from my experience only the most extreme nitpickers could ever find anything to complain about this round. They can only upgrade a phone so much at once, to expect some humongous amazing breakthrough tech every go around is just not feasible.

After just 18 hours and 2 different iPhone 7's I have just returned the 7 and gone back to the 6S.

As of right now, the 7 is not a superior phone to the 6S in my opinion, for the following reasons:

-Yellow screens. This is a problem every year when they change the display. The good screens will come back in a few months. I think this has something to do with the manufacturing process of IPS displays. A residue is deposited for the first few million. In a month or so, the clear blue screens will return. This isn't glue, intentional, more correct, or any other BS reason we hear every year. Its a defect of the manufacturing process. 2 iPhone 7's I got both had vastly inferior screens to my 6S, even after color profile/tint correction. Contrast, clarity, and brightness all worse than the 6S.

-No noticeable speed increases. I put the phones next to each other and tried my hardest to make the 7 run faster. It didn't. In some cases web pages loaded faster on the 6S. Plus the intentional delay after clicking the home button that was introduced in the 7 makes it feel slower and laggier.

-Marginal at best camera improvements

-Weird home button that doesn't work unless pressed with bare skin (no more gloves).

-Legitimate concerns about the lack of sapphire (lower quality materials)

And for all this what do you get in return?

-No headphone jack.

No thanks, Apple

Thanks for sharing. I do like the new home button, but to me right now that's the only difference. I had to return my dangerously hot note 7 and was lucky enough to snag a regular 7 matte black yesterday, but I'm tempted to return and just pick up a 6s plus.

Cough. Cough. Yea right...

Tomorrow are you going to talk about the time you had coffee with Tim Cook?

I do have a picture with him at the iPhone 5s launch at the Palo Alto store. At that time my roommate was an engineer at apple in the wireless group, so I was able to chat with the man.

Seriously, I've only been registered here for a week, but this place is like a ****ing cesspool of fanboys.

Twice a year, when new products come out, these forums fall apart. It goes from reasonable chat about Mac apple and geeky things. Then......booooom! It's the build up of expectations etc I think that does it.
Emotions be runnin' high! Gremlins the lot of 'em, except instead of water it's a new Apple product.

Which is understandable and perfectly fine. But don't generalize the handful of those who just are rude, blunt and inconsiderate. Their misinformation based on poor assumptions or their own willingness to pay the extra buck to get a yellow old looking screen rather than exchange it .. .. It's not how all fanboys are. Most of us just want an amazing product, and think it's more than fair to review, experience, exchange, etc. based on the experience we have with them.

It are the same fanboys that will trash talk the pink, and then go buy one. And then get 1 scratch and trash talk apple, but then tell someone ' i wanna use a case ' that they are stupid and they never have issues with their naked phone.

They post for the sake of trying to take a discussion offtopic, and don't actually have anything to say, or to support their arguments. I mean, they're the king of the world and never wrong. Because they KNOW what they are talking about. I mean, they got their facts from a rumor site afterall ;)

Can you post a pic of your screen next to the 6S with both on the settings screen?

Did you start your email exchanges with Tim after that, or were you corresponding with him back and forth prior to that?

It was after as I got a yellow screen 5 that year and was pissed. I included the pic with the email, and exec relations followed up and got me a nice screen 5. So it worked out.

Gloves work, just like most gloves that work was a capacitive screen.

Water resistance is nice. The new home button doesn't introduce lag. Screen has much more vibrant colors to me.

As for camera, I couldn't disagree more. I think its one of the biggest upgrades they have done, great improvement especially in low light.

The speed thing is typical of any computer type device. They love to trot out '50% faster' stuff, and people see bench marks and fall into the trap.

Real world diffs are non existent unless you hard core game. of course people who shell out the cash for the 7 will say otherwise but I call BS. But whatever makes you happy.

The removal of audio jack on the 7 and the great price on the 6s plus made my mind up for me. More than happy. Glad to be back on the s-cycle. Always seems to be a better phone IMO.

I'll look at the 8s plus in 2 years.

Awesome! You hit the panel lottery and got one of the blue, clear screens! More of these screens will come along in the next few months. Would love a shot of your 7 next to wifes on the settings screen.

To everyone else: Proof this isnt intentional!

Interesting !!! - I will receive my 7+ in about 3 days and I look forward to check for warmer tint.

But what do you mean by "Proof this isn't intentional". Do you think they will cheat customers deliberately ?

I returned my Note 7 and went with an iPhone 6S Plus for similar reasons. I do like the feel of the new home button, and the matte black is sexy.

I returned my note 7 and got a regular iPhone 7, I'm going to give it a few days to see if I can find a plus. If not I'll be returning it for 6s plus for now.

Thanks for you your input, the procurement of these phones are a highly individualized thing and I actually value these types of viewpoints.

I am coming from a flawless 6 128 and going to a 7+ 256, usually upgrade every two years for a host of reasons. In the past two years, my vision has started shifting a bit and I have used my wife's 6S+ and decided it will make a fair amount of difference in the overall operation, especially when using topo maps in the backcountry, etc.

I look forward to comparing it to her phone and I bet I will see a good bit of difference in the camera in the kind of light that I think it needs in order to be fully realized which is low, even and multiple sources in a single image correctly exposed. The phone needs to get in the hands of absolute masters of light recognition and it will shine, 2/3rd of a stop in a phone is a big, big difference.

As far as speed, for me, every little bit counts as I spend lots of hours in the wilderness and can not always hook the device up to a Goal Zero panel. The faster the processor is, the less time I have to spend on it to get the task done and that means more power conservation and less time on a device and more time using the real photographic tools of my job.

As far as the screen goes, it may just need burn in time, it may be the initial builds, I can play along with that for a bit and then make that call after a reasonable amount of time.

It's not a one size fits all world, I strongly considered not upgrading this time around but the trade-in incentives and the overall package betterment speak to me as a worthy upgrade.

Props to you for being decisive!

Meaning there are good screens out there, and after the initial batch the good screens will return like they do every year. Apple isnt intentionally "warming up" the display or any other reason that gets recycled every year.

I would hope the 7 does have a warmer screen and was glad to see reviewers mentioning this, thing is if it's closer to 6500K this is actually a good thing, the 6s screens were actually way too cold which was easily noticeable if you ever had to switch from a calibrated monitor or TV to the 6s as it was really blue, it might just be you are used to a inaccurate screen and maybe you even prefer that but the 6s screen wasn't accurate, sadly companies have been using colder and colder screens recently and people seem to think warmer screens are always bad and colder ones are good. usually out of the factory TV's, monitors and phones are way too cold and when most people I know see one calibrated correctly they think its too warm because they aren't used to it. :(

also screens of course will vary phone to phone and of course people will get ones that are too warm, my point though is lots of people seem to be mentioning warmer screens with the 7 which might not be a bad thing if they are actually more accurate on average if that makes sense :)

edit: as to your point about the screens getting better as time went on I'm not sure they do, I think there is likely the same variation and a few screens are yellow but all the obsessive people on here bought them at launch so there were more people with new phones, some noticed they had a yellow screen and due to the huge amount of new phones and people looking for any kind of defect it makes it seem like there are lots of yellow screens at the launch of a new phone. I would guess if you buy a phone months after launch then you are likely to care less about what colour the screen is and stuff and naturally the yellow screen doesn't make as much noise on places like macrumors because less people are buying them. :p

Guys like you say this every year. Guess what? There were warm 6S screens too. So if they did it last year, how could you have a cool screen 6S? BTW, they also "intentionally made the screen closer to 6500K" on the 3GS, the 4, the 4S, the 5, the 5S, and the 6. And yet they didn't, did they. Cause people have had cool screened versions of those phones every year to compare the new "warmer" phones to. Just like you have a cool 6S.
