Hey Cybix,

congrats on your cool setup. How's Mac Gourmet working out for you?

I was going to get my wife a recipe program for her birthday, but the first one i heard about was YummySoup--

http://hungryseacow.com/

I hadn't heard of MacGourmet until this thread. Do you like it so far?

hey hey,

just checked out yummysoup, looks pretty much like MacGourmet! I'll have to take a closer look.

MacGourmet seems to do everything I need, inc Wine lists and tasting notes. Dragging and dropping recipes from the net into the app is nice too, and the export function is great for exporting your shopping list right onto the iPod...

download the demo and try it out, maybe also check out the video howto's on the site... they arent bad!

cheers

Eeek. 189 AUD is a bit expensive, and then add in the VESA compatible mount (thinking about mounting a 24" iMac)...if only I could get mounts at half price too. :p

that is a very cool screen saver! although I don't see it saving the screen, the 'hour' is gonna sit there, for well, an hour!

XYL, a 24" iMac, mounted, would be wild, especially in the bedroom, living room, kitchen or wherever! I would have loved to do that, but didnt wanna splash out over $3k for the machine.. esp to have in the kitchen for recipes, email, web, calendar, etc... something to think about!

here is a cool screensaver fot your kitchen

the first one
http://www.9031.com/downloads/screensavers.html

Many thanks for such a great screensaver, i was just looking for one like this only a few minutes ago, i couldn't find anything with big clear number like this. Its to use with Aurora (alarm clock) to wake me up in the mornings.

BTW, this imac kitchen project is bloody brilliant! I'm campaigning to my dad to do this (our kitchen is currently being renovated), especially as we are looking for a 20" lcd tv.

Last night we watched a movie on the iMac whilst cooking dinner...

I've also installed 'Connoisseur', a recipe program for OS X that works with 10.3.X. seems pretty good, and the 'cooking view' is just excellent!

http://www.thelittleappfactory.com/application.php?app=Connoisseur

I think we will make do with this app until I install Tiger on the machine, or wait for leopard....

so get this, it turn's out the iMac likes to spit cd/dvd's out onto the bench/floor.. haha, it's very amusing. You really need to be ready for it, it's like a launcher.

I'll try to get a lil vid of it or something. On another note, did some more work with the office closet... check these before and after pics. (thanks ikea for the shelving)

I moved the server and UPS from the floor to the top shelf, cleaned it all out, and bought a couple of pine shelving units and modified them slightly to fit. I think they are called "GORM" (from ikea). The Samsung monitor is still wall mounted, although with the shelf right there, there's not much purpose to the wall mounting! heh. Unfortunately since I took the pictures, my wife has nearly filled the shelves up! hehehe :D

Nice reorganization, looks like Fedora Core is installed? Anyway, eagerly awaiting updates to this thread (power cord ones :))

Nice reorganization, looks like Fedora Core is installed? Anyway, eagerly awaiting updates to this thread (power cord ones :))

fedora core 5 (runs, dns, email, web, proxy, ftp, etc) i actually have a "Class C" subnet at home (dont ask)... host my own email, dns, web, etc. works well! May start another thread on it.

power. hopefull this week!! the socket I want to put on the wall is out of stock at my local hardware, should be in soon :)

Okay, while I haven't played with the power cord yet, I figured while I'm whipping up a meal I'll snap some shots, so here goes.. :)

check out the wife's pantry.. heh, perfectly organised!

Tracey:
I'm sure having a MAC on your kitchen wall will encourage your husband to use/read the calendar! hehehe

iKwick7:
the track lighting is from IKEA, as are the stools! they look brilliant at night, even nicer now with the iMac in place

I doubt that - he barely uses the eMac and really isn't very techno oriented!

The track lights are great - we are supposed to be getting an Ikea here in Orlando - i'm putting them on my "list" - hopefully i'll be ready to redo the kitchen by the time they open.

AND, as I was just catching up on the thread - my mom saw the recent pictures and wants to know who's neat pantry that was!! Doesn't look like ours - but hey, we are feeding 7 out of something about 1/2 that size.

Which reminds me - the builder didn't show up on friday about the addition.

Keep up the great job - i'm gunna keep plotting how to get one :D

PS - and I love the green wall, it was the first thing I noticed!!!! Keep it!!!

Does this really work with OSX? On the link you gave they only list Windows systems as being supported...

Yes, it does work with OS X. Believe it or not, the Mac software is actually better than its Windows counterpart. If you Google the ATI Remote Wonder II (keep in mind that there's a PC-only one bundled with an ATI graphics card), you'll find a long PC & Mac review of it, complete with screenshots, which is how I reached my decision to buy it.

ATI had the OS X version of the software on their site -- if they've since taken it down (their downloads/support sections is atrocious), I can dig up the software and share it.

EDIT: Here is the review.

I like the shelving. I think I need to make a trip to Ikea soon and reorganize my room/closet. Organization is next to godliness (I know the actual idiom is Cleanliness is next to godliness, but I like my version better).

Also, the food in the picture looks amazing! Have you had any formal training in the culinary arts? Also, it didn't help seeing those pics while i'm stuck at work and not able to eat lunch till 2pm my time. That's the only drawback to science, experiments always take forever.

training, no, I just like to cook, sometimes it turns out nice!

Any food looks amazing when your starving hehe

UPDATE UPDATE!

I finally added the 4-socket power, and hardwired the mac right down the guts of it!... I'm happy with it, but think a 'whiter' power lead might blend with the tiles better, will keep my eyes out for it.

turned out a treat, very happy!

Sweet. You've inspired me. I've always wanted to put a computer in the kitchen for doing recipes and stuff, but I was never quite sure how I wanted to do it. Once we buy a house, I think I'll go for something like that (if I can convince the woman to let me hang a computer in the kitchen...but I generally get to overrule her since I cook more :D ).

I've some how missed this thread up until now, but mate, that is absolutely awesome! It looks fantastic and as someone who loves to cook I can imagine it is incredibly functional (I've always got my PB in the kitchen with recipes on it). And you can add me to the list of people that love your kitchen - it's so big (and I have to compliment your wife on keeping that pantry sooo tidy). :D

Nice work! :)

Looks even better! Though it looked fine before, I know how perfectionism will not let you rest till you are absolutely happy with the final product. Again, great job on this!

Also, how are you liking MacGourmet?
