So I'm assuming that 11.6 still requires LateBloom on a 5,1? I've been hoping that Apple would "unfix" the issue that cropped up post 11.5.2. :(

It came up post 11.2.3, affects currently only pre 2011 systems. I cannot see how Apple will fix a problem not visible to them. There will be no unsupported systems in their own test farm and user reports of unsupported systems will be most likely ignored unless the same problem hits a supported system.

BTW:

Do you guys here experience weird application crashes with these post 11.2.3 Big Sur versions? We are discussing this issue for a while on various channels right now. First a single app crashes and cannot be restarted, than all other open ones follow quickly and at the very end even the Finder crashes without return. Using sudo purge within a terminal or via ssh remote login solves this problem for some users, I could confirm this at least once (yesterday). Otherwise one has to reboot the system.

Some users report it happens (after a while) on every boot into Big Sur (post 11.2.3).

May be worth investigating possible memory leak?

Had to shutdown during the 11.6 install once but then booted up regularly. Just had two cold boots that hung followed by a successful one.

Not so far. Only a few single application crashes (Mail notably crashed two or three times already, quite unusual).

Was able to get up to date w/11.6 from 11.2.3. Installed Martin LO's OC 0.7.3 config. Made a CCC clone of my BS install to a Crucial M.2 2280, then attached that to my 2017 MBP via USB-C and updated it from there. Installed that in my cMP and ensured successful cold & warm boot (needed the warm to get BT going). Then did the same procedure w/my production install on a Samsung 970 Evo+ and reinstalled it back into the cMP. First boot hung to the circle-slash screen. Pulled the USB containing the OC EFI and adjusted the Stage2 delay from 200 to 250, and that reboot was successful.

So far there seems to have been one report of that issue here:
anybody experience instability with their mac?
I have to restart my mac 2 -3 x a day, because of apps crashing
thanks

The only issue I've had with applications is with Apple Remote Desktop. It will run fine for days, and then inexplicably be unable to open with a dialog error box recommending reboot. This has occurred in 11.2.3, and I'll have to see if it occurs in 11.6 & beyond.

Hello There,
After a couple of days of some reading, I got the cMP working with Big Sur, but I'm afraid to update to 11.6. Only the wifi is not working, but I plan to upgrade the component.
Thanks to everybody who participate in this wonderful forum.
Cheers.
L
ps. I don't know how to bring a report with the command line, so I made a spreadsheet.

I made an easy to use App to gather the report

So if I'm experiencing this issue currently. How to I install this? Do I boot into recovery? What are the steps?

Can anyone point me to a somewhat simplified version of the installation of this?

Thank you kindly.

If you use the package of MartinLo, Dayo or OpenCore Legacy Patcher you will get Latebloom pre installed.

Perhaps you should ask the OCLP support group, just an idea. I'm saying this because I suspect many, if not most, of your potential readers may be, like me, users of vanilla OpenCore, so, perhaps, we don't have a clue as to the precise working of an OCLP setup. I can only reiterate that, contrary to some negative experiences reported by people that have updated to BS 11.6, mine has actually been noticeable even better than previous iterations of Big Sur after 11.2.3. The installation was way better and all the warm reboots after that have been successful. Be that as it may, my setup doesn't have any SSDs or NVMe drives, so the mileage can be significantly different in such cases.

Thanks Pete, Will do!, I'm glad your not having this issue, In my case I use SSD's and MVNe drives for my OS's and Spinners for other stuff.
