Good to know. Expecting to see Samsung improve the features with OneUI on its flagship phones.

On the right device, Generative AI will disrupt the way we interact with machines. The smartphone is the best candidate due to voice interaction. Furthermore, in a 2 years, any new smartphone that does not dot it well, will be suffering.

Apple AI efforts and its integration with third party services have been weasely pathetic in comparison. They tried it to to their services for years that went nowhere.

Will see. Buckle up.

Apple is still trying to run the company as they have always done. Total control over the employees. On the other hand Google is giving freedom so that developers can come up with new ideas. I am not saying that everything what Google does is good. But iPhone sells well because of loyal customers. Many years ago iOS was known for the simplicity and ease of use. But now Android has made many people content creators. With free Apps which come with the mobile, Anybody can edit photos and videos and upload in Social Media.

This is pretty funny, considering Google seem to pull the plug on just about every new service or idea in a year or two.

Just take a look at this list of new ideas that have been killed by Google and then try to think of the cool new things they've released in the past 5 years that are still around 2 years later.

Google's approach to AI: Roll out to as many users as possible.

Apple's probable approach to AI: New Apple Pencil only works on new iPads, Old pencils will not work on new iPads for no reason effing other than greed.

That level of cynicism can only come from someone who is hurting inside. Lemme give you a hug bro

That actually says more about Apple as a company than google.
That google is willing to take a chance & make new things
Where as Apple play it safe & still to waiting to see if someone else brings it out first.

Never mind the pencils, Apple are planning their new AI offering to work better with their latest chips, so if you want to max your AI up you would need an iPad Pro or Air 2024 and iPhone 16/Pro.

No, it says that Google is willing to use their customers as beta testers and frequently pulls the plug on new services.

Apple meanwhile tests and protypes in private and launches things only when they are ready (generally speaking), so you never see the ideas that were being tested but didn't make to the market.

The beautiful thing is that people get to choose which company's philosophy they prefer, but let's not conflate this with a lack of innovation at Apple.

What new original idea has Apple actually been successful with can you actually name at least a few?
Google on the other hand need to take this approach to get people to use their products.
There is actually more google users to Apple users out there so something must work

If you don’t know Google is not the leading company in AI. That place goes to openAI.

Compared to Google event today, people were much more impressed with openAI.

I am sure Apple will be fine, they take their time.
Yes, but OpenAI isn't providing the integration into a mobile OS at the level Google is able to do it. Google is also spending a lot of its efforts integrating it into their paid Google Workspace products. It almost doesn't matter who is "better" when everyone is going to use the default AI built-in to whatever products they are using.

Well google is free and you are the product. I’m not sure you are making the point you want to make.

Typical Apple user comment
You have obviously never used a decent android phone then because my sister keeps hers for years & updates the os & doesn’t have a problem.
Yeah, Apple fans thinking that Androids become useless after a couple of years seems to be a common trope here. My last two phones (prior to upgrading to an S23 last summer) were a Note 8 (2017) and a Nexus 4 (2012).

If you want to use the same metrics that that site apparently uses to measure things that Google has killed over the years, you could come up with a pretty impressive list of things Apple has killed. My Photo Stream, iChat, .Mac, Xserve, Aperture, Shake, Bento, Mac OS Server...

If you actually look at the list of things Google has killed over the years, most of them are in computing realms that Apple doesn't even service in the first place.

Hmmm... I wonder what it could be that Google has more users than Apple? Can't possibly be lower prices and free services, can it?

Also, what does it matter who had an idea first? It's great for ego to say you were first, but what else is it good for?

Well this comment aged well....

It’s funny because Apple is so far behind these features it’s hilarious.

iOS is literally fisher price OS compared to Android with AI.

Photos search, circle to search, Gemini assistant etc are utterly amazing and nothing iOS has right now compares.

But hey, we’re getting another button!
right now with an emerging technology like AI...Apple is so far behind I am not sure they can ever catchup.

It is not so much as being first....as it it first to develop and implement. Which is huge in emerging technologies.
Google is developing as in writing the code and making it work. They are innovating and producing products and technology from the ground up. Apple used to do this kind of thing....but lately not so much

For the bolded above...they produce cross platform products like Gmail and Google Search. Google Search is the best in the business and changed how people use the internet.

I don't understand this commotion about originality in products. I don't want to use the first product of its kind, I want to use the best.

"The best product" is an individual matter just as one's life philosophy. But it's irrelevant if you came up with it or a greek philosopher. Heck what about democracy, shan't we use it cuz it wasn't our invention???

I really like the timing of all of this-OpenAI and Google both posting current states of development of their "AI" feature sets and capabilities, coming right before WWDC. It (should) put a lot of pressure on Apple to announce ACTUAL features that WILL be part of iOS 18 and the next MacOS. I also hope Apple is careful not to rely too heavily on OpenAI's ChatGPT and that their "collaboration" is just a stopgap. IBM relied on Microsoft's DOS, without realizing Microsoft was going to be a direct competitor, and look what happened there. OpenAI is a competitor to both Apple and Google. Meta sees this, which is why it is spending billions developing its own AI tools, as Apple should have been doing years ago. I also seem to recall Sir Jony Ive working on a startup of some kind trying to leverage OpenAI as its own core OS for a new device. I can envision a time not too far off when the paradigm of "OS" and "Apps" becomes completely replaced by a merger of the two, without any apparent layers. You have ChatGPT 8, and that's all you have, all you need. It does everything the iPhone does now without all kinds of artificial boundaries and limits and can run exactly the same on whatever device you are using. You just have true open access to whatever you need with no switching between interfaces. Finally, a truly "Seamless UI." ChatGPT 8 becomes "Seamless OS 1.0." Android 20 becomes Gemini 5.0 (Android is no more). Of course, at that point, iOS will be left in the dust, along with Apple.
