Amazing how Apple fans put down anything about Google rather than admit Apple's shortcomings. I recently went back to Android from IOS and it is amazing how far ahead Android is of IOS.

I haven't had an iPhone since the 7 Plus and recently helped a relative set up their 11 Pro Max. I thought it felt quite outdated and missing a lot of features thinking it was on an old version of iOS. Nope, that was iOS 17. Absolute drab. The keyboard is hilarious, basically zero features other than letters and a huge empty space at the bottom wasting screen real estate.

Apple's idea of a "stable ecosystem" begins and ends with them building a few different lines of glorified appliances and then walling them off from the rest of the world. It would be pretty embarrassing if Apple didn't have stability in that kind of environment. For those who enjoy the sterile curated environment Apple tells you to enjoy, have at it.

Google, on the other hand, is aggressively pushing a viable contender to Amazon in the AI, home assistant, and data analytics spaces, and Microsoft in the education and corporate office suite space. Google maps not only feeds the most commonly used consumer GPS navigation system in the world, its API is also one of the largest sources of route-planning data used by delivery and mobile technical service personnel in the corporate world today. Google's software and services are used by pretty much everyone, including Apple users, everywhere. The same can't be said about Apple's software. Not even close.

And most, if not all, of Google's software works just as well on my Samsung phone as it does on my Dell laptop, my neighbor's Mac, my Daughter's iPhone, and even my Hisense TV. And you can sing all you want about "fragmentation", but the truth is that it is just about as much a guarantee that any given Android app on the Google App store will work on any old Android phone, just as an iOS app on Apple's store will work on any old iPhone.

But sure. Google killed that nerdy "glass" thing and its weird social media.. thing.. a decade or so ago. So they are the "kill everything" company ("everything" in this context being all sorts of technologies Apple hasn't even begun to try to explore yet).
You’re on an Apple fan site, you know.

Also, Apple Maps works well enough, and is much better looking. I prefer it—by a wide margin.

Google's approach to AI: Roll out to as many users as possible.

Apple's probable approach to AI: New Apple Pencil only works on new iPads, Old pencils will not work on new iPads for no reason effing other than greed.
The apple pencil pro isn't interchangeable nor vice versa due to the landscape camera which requires a different pairing solution
And yes, it's a joke

This looks incredibly powerful. I don't like everything Apple does, but I've favored their cautious, deliberate approach and have been all-in on them since the mid 2000's. I *hope* to keep it that way.

But as another commenter said, this makes almost everything Apple has to offer look like Fisher Price. This may end up being the most critical WWDC of the Tim Cook era, because if other loyal users (like myself) are feeling the intoxicating blend of envy and possibility I'm feeling right now, there may be a major shift brewing.

For the first time, I'm wondering if the "privacy" tradeoffs are worth it, when considering the quality of life improvements and cognitive load reductions possible with a Gemini-powered Android device. Your move, Apple. I'll give it at least a year to see how this plays out, but at that point, the cards are on the table.

No it’s horrible to use it for that! AI still “makes mistakes”, which is something we’re still not used to computers doing. People are going to rely on AI analysis and make wrong decisions.

We need to use our brains!
There's no binary law that says we can't do both. There's no question human validation is currently often necessary, but AI is capable of a lot of the heavy lifting.

Don‘t forget that new Apple AI feature will be only for US and Canada users and very few languages… as usual.

I’m very impressed with OpenAI yesterday demo, also works with my language and my culture, Siri not.

So far AI seems more like having your uncle who is on the spectrum, who always talks about stuff you don't care about waiting to tell you obvious things or long lists of things that obsess over. I am confused why this is considered so valuable...But I'm willing to be surprised.

Go touch some grass, what has the apple pencils compatibility got to do with AI. For context the old Apple Pencil can’t work with the new iPads as they’ve changed the magnet array due to the camera and faceID tech being put in the same place as the pencils magnet array.

It's funny that you think apple isn't doing that 😂
They’re definitely not, not without telling you. Apple’s core feature is privacy, breaking that would result in Apple being dragged by the media and the loss of customers that are with them for their privacy.

Apple is still trying to run the company as they have always done. Total control over the employees. On the other hand Google is giving freedom so that developers can come up with new ideas. I am not saying that everything what Google does is good. But iPhone sells well because of loyal customers. Many years ago iOS was known for the simplicity and ease of use. But now Android has made many people content creators. With free Apps which come with the mobile, Anybody can edit photos and videos and upload in Social Media.
Pretty sure you could argue Apple has made more content creators and creators in general. Apple also provides free music creation and video creation apps with iPhone, iPad & Mac. They also have plenty of PRO apps that are used by creatives once they have a platform.

Seems to be a lot of Android nerds on this Apple forum 👀. Poking fun at Apple’s lack of AI, despite WWDC only weeks away where we already know some of these features are going to be announced. Let hope Apple teamed up with OpenAI over Google, since openAI are the leaders in AI

How about the knowledge that your OS isn't parsing every piece of info you give it to search for monetisable data?

Isn't that worth anything to you?
You do know how much data Apple collects from its devices, right? And how often macOS phones home with what you're doing? They're not so much selling it off but they're absolutely making their own money off your data and locking us into using our devices how they want us to.

Galaxy S24, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro.
That’s it.

And don’t forget about optimization, one thing Android users hate to talk about. After installing just ONE MAJOR UPDATE phone magically turns into pumpkin, starts to lag and at the end of the day owner rushes to an Apple Store to get an iPhone and never touch this Android-infested stuff again.

(Or rarely does a “second contact”, buys new Android flagship each 1-2 years)
Typical Apple user comment
You have obviously never used a decent android phone then because my sister keeps hers for years & updates the os & doesn’t have a problem.

Oh great, now any idiot can generate fake AI images in any app, scaring someone’s grandparents. And it can reply to all of the social media responses as well.

How many years until our phones just stay plugged in the corner with a fan on them maintaining an entire fake life for us?

Like the other day I heard the CEO of Bumble or some such dating app was talking about putting AI into the app to make you more attractive, write your profile, respond to messages, and go on dates with other user’s AI. So in the future, I can virtually cheat on my wife and have virtual kids and a whole virtual family in the cloud. WAT
