183 looks nice too. My problem is that I like both leather and bright colors, and I do not at all like the way some of the bright colors patina, hence my trying to prevent it. I don’t like the hugely drastic contrasts on different parts of the case. A little overall darkening and aging is fine.

I agree - I love the patina on the Saddle Brown but it just looks dirty on the bright colored cases - yuck! It’s barely noticeable on the dark blue and grey (they just get closer to black over time).
[doublepost=1517439016][/doublepost]I wish Apple offered a darker brown option - I find myself constantly wiping it hoping to speed up the process. I’ve done the coconut oil thing before but felt it made the leather a little “sandy” feeling for a while. Just going to have to be patient I guess.

after a few weeks, saddle brown:

I actually customized my leather Apple case so it would begin to patina immediately. I removed the outer top wax type layer of the leather Apple case in a two step process then applied two coats of leather type mink conditioner on it. Here are before and after pics. I could not stand how the tan brown Apple leather case felt and looked out of the box so by removing their outer wax type layer I actually just exposed the true leather so it actually could begin to start showing character after that almost immediately.

What was your process for removing their wax layer?

Sure no problem. Go to autozone is the best place I’ve found and specifically buy 360 grit sandpaper or the block. Then go get the entire case one time and don’t stay on one spot for an extended time or eventually you’ll eat all the way through the leather and you end up seeing the plastic shell. Just firmly go over one time then apply a coat of leather conditioner I used mink conditioner then let it drum out about an hour then just repeat the entire process one more time and on the second go round when you apply the mink conditioner it’ll take and immediately absorb into the leather on that second time and just let it dry out a little and you are finished. You’ll see once you are done a huge difference in how it feels, the grip it has and the immediate character it will show which is how Apple shoukd have sold the saddle brown leather case I think. They completely cover up the real and true leather and if you don’t do it your case will take forever to patina and when it does it will basically only show where you grip for case and the rest will still be shiny and show zero character and true worn in aged leather look. I assure you it’s night and day difference after you are finished. Plus that wax layer makes the case feel like fake leather and very slippery. I think Apple is basically trying to preserve the leather to stay in that shiny brand new state for almost the life of the case and that’s cool with the colored leather cases but not on the saddle brown where you expect to see the leather show character. If you have any questions along the way just get in touch with me as I’ll be glad to help if you need anything. Make sure though to specifically get 360 grit.

haven't looked through the full thread, but any pics of the midnight blue on a space gray phone?

Ok, thanks. I just bought the black leather case, but not sure if I'd rather get Midnight Blue or the saddle.

I have the midnight blue and it’s just turning almost black. I really like the midnight blue color but it’s not blue anymore. Therefore, I’m gonna test out the Saddle Brown now

yeah i think saddle brown wears the best. i like a lot of the colors pre-patina. once they start to show some wear, some of them don't look too great. i wouldn't mind the saddle brown staying the color it is out of the box.

Here's a couple more. It definitely is starting to look on the black side but the blue is more visible in person. I have a really nice bumper and a dBrand skin that I tried to use after having this on for over two months. The bumper/skin combo looks amazing but it's so cold and sharp compared to the leather.

Has anyone noticed how the leather cases vary somewhat in the feel right out of the box? I have 2 saddle browns, one was more smooth feeling and shiny. The new one has more of slightly textured pebbly looking leather on it an not as shiny brand new. Was looking through some of the photos in this thread and noticed similar differences. I don’t mind. But curious if anyone else noticed?
