I switched from ST $45 Unlimited to the $30 T-Mo plan today. I'm currently using an unlocked AT&T iPhone 5 on 6.1.4 with the latest carrier update from T-Mobile.

After activation, I was surprised when I saw the 4G icon. I guess I'm in a refarmed area? I'll see the E (Edge) icon every once awhile though.

My question is that my 4G speeds and signal have been very spotty. Maybe I'm not really on 4G? Will the replacement phone with the AWS 1700+ offer significant improvement?

Yes it will definitely.

I've been looking into getting mine replaced. My AT&T iPhone 5 is unlocked and works freaking amazing on T-Mobile. But every once in a while I see the E icon.

Wow... the phones are right next to each other? Both showing 4G icon?

your right:( it didnt work he said I need to update iOS 6.1.4. I told him I'm experiencing dropped calls and not getting "4G". They said we cannot do anything until you update, experience the issues and then we can consider sending out a replacement.

That's not what they told me. I told them the same thing when I called them and they shipped me out a new one.

The replacement phone is faster on the AWS. I am getting an average of 15mb/s

My old iphone 5 was getting anywhere from 1.5 - 8mb/s but mostly around 5

On my 1st iPhone 5, data speeds were mostly between 8-11 mb/s and on my replacement phone, I'm getting an average of 22 mb/s, so the T-Mobile AWS bands really make a difference.

Yes but the t-mobile iphone is obviously connected to 1700 Hspa+ 42mbps while the unlocked ip5 att is connected to 1900 Hspa+ 21mbps aka refarmed frequency.

I called apple and told them my iPhone 5 has extremely slow wifi when connected to xfinity routers, also told him my friends Iphone 5 connects perfectly with the routers when he asked if I've tested the router with any other iPhone 5. He said I need to restore my iPhone and if that doesn't work he have me my ticket number and he said if I take the ticket number to apple store they will replace it for free, my question is do you guys think apple store will replace it? Kinda scared they might do some tests on it and say nothing is wrong with it

If you tell them something is wrong with your wifi connection, all they will do is restore your network settings. Tell them your phone is dropping calls. Also tell them your getting Edge while you should be getting 4G because there's 4G in your area

No don't tell them about the edge I did today and they said it was the tower near me and refused to switch

Can't do that cause I'm in Seattle and I'm probably going to the one in Bellevue which has 4g if not LTE yet, If its a cool genius or whatever they're called at apple store ill try starting a nice conversation. Does anyone know any good excuse that they can't test at apple store that I can say on top of my wifi problems? Maybe like every time I'm on edge and phone goes to sleep it automatically looses signal

If I buy an iPhone 5 at a Tmobile store, am I assured of getting a Tmobile version with AWS or do I still need to check the serial number? Thanks.

So I live in miami, any recommendations as to the best "reasons" to give an apple genius to get my iPhone 5 replaced. I just got a refurb back in January. Recently switched to Tmo and the lack of AWS is turning out to be a pain! LOL

....went to the store today, SCORED aws replacement. Yay apple!!! Nice guy too.

News today is how T-Mobile sold half million iPhones in just a month. I think they can spare a few replacements for the people without the AWS band.

I had the at&t iphone 5 (A1428 model). Didn't have the aws bands though. Yesterday i went to the apple store and complained about battery. The genius rep took it back and examined it for any damage. Then he ran a diagnostics test in front of me.

He offered to replace it even though everything came out ok. The replacement was the aws version.

Thats exactly what i hoped for...

I'm about to purchase an att iPhone to get it unlocked and use it for T-Mobile. How should I go about getting it replaced? The one I'm purchasing is one from last year because my relative is due for their upgrade and they have the original iPhone 5.

Or could it be possible that I use a friend for their att upgrade with the hopes of getting the newer iPhone and then get it unlocked?

Do you guys think saying " my phone looses signal when on edge and doesn't connect back till about 15 seconds after I turn on screen" sound like a good excuse? Reason I said edge is cause I live in Seattle and every apple store is in a reframed area

I don't think it really matters what you complain about, you just need to complain and the more things you complain about, the more likely they are to just relent and give you an replacement. I highly recommend saying you installed the latest 6.1.4 firmware update, you downloaded the new Carrier Settings, and ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS still exist. Remember, the more problems, the harder it is for them to prove otherwise.

K thanks, and I already gave up my jailbreak and restored to 6.1.4, ill try loading him/her with lots of problems but not so much that it sounds like bs. Probably 2 signal problems or 1 signal and 1 battery problem

Also I bought mine from a guy that got it on contract with atnt. I told apple that I bought it from atnt and canceled my contract and atnt factory unlocked for me and I'm using it on tmobile. Do you think they might ask for identity to see if you are original owner?
