I guess I don't get these iMessage issues. If somebody isn't on it, why can't you and everybody else just text them with a normal messaging app that comes with the phone? What am I missing here? Hec I don't hardly even use hangouts because I don't see a big difference.

I think the main issue, which I've run into, is group messaging on android is kind of garbage. I don't know if it's changed on 4.3, but before that it seems to never work, at least it never does for me. I've tried most of the aftermarket messages systems and they are much better, but still kind of crappy.

Also imessage is nice in that it can go to any of your devices, ipad, computer, etc. so you can pickup a conversation wherever you go.

There are probably solutions, but forcing all your friends and family to switch to a specific app isn't a solution IMO. Google needs something that is stock and baked into the OS just like Apple. There also should be some kind of universal standard so different OS can communicate with each other.

I definitely miss imessage, it was very elegant and easy to use with no setup or tweaking required.

The main problem is the stock software does not have a true group messaging solution.

For example, My friends all have iphones and we were in a group iMessage. With the G2, all of their texts would send to me separately, instead of condensed into one group text. In addition, these texts come as multimedia messages, and when they are firing off into my inbox, they have to load individually. Essentially, I get all their texts separate and am not able to follow events as clearly.

Alternatively, if I send a message to them, android does not actually group text them but it just mass texts them. So all of my texts to them come into their phones separately from their group chats.

Interestingly enough, if I attached a picture to the text I would send to them, it would actually go into their group message inbox. Obviously not a viable solution, but it shows the weird way which android treats group chats like MMS.

There are apps that can fix this, but I want it to work out of the box and not have the MMS issue and what not. Hopefully you understand a little better what we are talking about

This is one of those huge question marks why Google doesn't make a decent text messaging app.

Just posted my review of this beast. I love this thing! It's fast... my favorite Android device I've ever used. (Used to be the HTC One)

I gotta hand it to Apple for facetime. Works very well and the video quality is great.

I haven't found an equal video chat app on Android.

Tango is garbage. Choppy video quality and frequent disconnects.

Fring and Skype are both equally crappy as well.

Hangouts is no good?

For still shots how does the camera rate against the improved camera on the 5s?
How is it in low light? Especially while taking pictures of people without flash?

Cheers!

Finally got to play with one today.

I really like the size of the screen. The S5 should go to this size and dump the buttons on the bottom.

Well, I rooted this weekend and installed GMD custom gestures and GMC soft key hide and got rid of the nav bar. Well I didn't get rid of it, a small swipe at the bottom brings it up so I still have use of it. Such a small thing, such a HUGE benefit IMO, the screen is huge and it's nice to have all of it to myself. I can also hide/unhide the status bar up top with a simple gesture.

Sometimes I find myself just looking at the screen because it's so nice!!

I finally got to play with the Note 3 and the G2 side by side this weekend and surprisingly, I came away unimpressed by the N3. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing device but it really feels like my Note 2 that I've used (and loved) since day 1.

With that being said, I'm going to go and actually get a G2 and try it a few days and see what happens from there. Of course I said this last week so...

This is probably the best smartphone of the year.

Only other device that could beat it for me would be the Nexus 5.

How's the camera's picture quality when taking quick "just grab the phone and shoot" pictures? (especially indoor shots)

Could you post a screenshot with the buttons hidden?

After a day with this phone I am absolutely in love. I cant see how any other phones can beat this one in a long time. I come from Note 2 and was always planning to get Note 3, but when G2 came out it was basically perfect for my needs. Even though I loved the Note 2 and the size of the screen, it is a little overwhelming and I kept thinking that my ideal size phone would be slightly smaller. Add the pretty much nonexistant bezels (which looks insanely nice) and top of the line specs in every part of the phone and you have a winner in my opinion. And yes, the camera is awesome. Well done LG!

Oh, and for the UI doubters: I have been using Cyanogenmod and ParanoidAndroid the past year and I really only have 2 complaints about the LG UI: the stock messaging app is crap, and there is too much going on in the notification shade. Other than that, nothing really bothers me and Knock On is awesome.

I rooted mine and the only thing in my notification shade is the toggle buttons, I removed the volume and brightness sliders, and well the Q-slide buttons are on a toggle anyways.

Weirdly, I actually like the brightness and volume sliders. I can slide them quickly, but they are kind of obtrusive. I wish we had a control center that slides up from the bottom like iOS7.

I've been playing around with this volume slider widget, it works really nicely and can be put onto the lockscreen. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.hinterhofapps.sliderwidget&hl=en
