Went to the Verizon store today just intending to look at the G2. After about 15 minutes playing with it, I bought it! Still have my 5s though. Ive bounced back and forth between iPhone and Android but the G2 FINALLY addressed some things I didnt like with my S4 and Note 2. First and foremost is the display. Not a fan of pentile at all, especially in bright sunlight but I love the IPS display of the 5s. The IPS display of the G2 easily rivals the 5s, possibly even beating it as its about 100 ppi higher and 1080p. It has to be the best display Ive ever seen on a phone yet, Note 3 included. The G2 also hit the sweet spot for me with its size. After 2 weeks, the 5s is just so small and bothering me a bit, but I found the S4 also a tad bit small, the Note 2 a bit too big and the Note 3 way too big. Loving the size of the G2!

I was a big fan of TouchWiz but I really like whatever this UI running on the G2 is. Its very light and unobtrusive but I love the flexibility and little things it does. For instance, the way the messaging app will display a little box in the upper corner when you are using the phone and get a text rather than just something in the notification bar. There are a lot of nice little touches like that I am finding useful. Need to watch a video to see what else its capable of. Camera is great, battery seems solid out of the box today, nice call quality and man is it fast and responsive! One other thing, I dont know if the 5s doesn't play well with the speedtest app or what but running these tests in the store before I bought it helped my decision too. Seemed to be indicative of real world performance too as the G2 was a bit quicker to load web pages when I compared them.

I love the G2, IMO it's the Super Phone of 2013.

I can't get over how amazing the Display looks with the Thin Bezels and what LG did by placing the Power & Volume button on the back and giving us the KockOn feature. The Battery Life is outstanding, I'm getting over 12 hours of HEAVY usage.

LG even changed my view on the On-Screen buttons and I love that I can customized them.

My only complaints are the Speakers because hTc set a new standards with the BoomSound and the Icons, it's poorly designed.

The more positive things I hear about this phone, the more I think I made the wrong choice in going with the Note 3.

I am not going to use the S pen that much but I do like the appeal of the big screen of the Note 3 but this one isnt that much smaller.

I do have 14 days to give the Note 3 a whirl but I have to try the Note 3 today and then see what the G2 is all about.

Ok, so this is the 2nd full day with the G2 and I am pretty disappointed with several things so far. First would be battery life. I took my 5s off the charger around 8pm last night and tested it against the G2 in all kinds of things last night from Netflix and Youtube to FB and browser tests. The G2 was on the charger and I took it off at around 1am and went to bed. So the 5s has been off the charger 5 hours longer and was used for about an hour in the tests and been using both phones today quite a bit. As you can see from the pics, the iPhone is hanging pretty close to it despite having a battery half the size. Granted, the G2 has a larger, 1080p display that sucks up more juice, but its still disappointing battery life for a phone with a 3000 mAh battery IMO.

My next issue is the camera. In typical Android fashion, the pics are just cool (blueish tint) and not a true representation of the actual colors. Android phones also have issues with lens flare anytime you are faced towards the sun, as seen in the pic of the car. The 5s didnt have a problem with it. Although the details are nice, the overall pic is just lacking to me.

The display on the G2 is great but it still has a slight blueish tint and the whites are not as bright as on the 5s. Even when you have it on full brightness and the 5s at 3/4 bright, and its still not as good in sunlight as the 5s which is disappointing. The earpiece speaker is ok but talking into it, a few people have said I sound muffled. The speaker on the bottom is quite bad. Calls sound tiny and the volume isnt that loud, sound from videos isnt great but acceptable. Maybe I have gotten used to the iPhone over the past few weeks but holding the G2 in one hand becomes a bit tiresome after only 5-10 minutes, especially if you are reaching all around it with your thumb. The overall size and weight is good compared to say the Note 3 but its noticeable when in my shorts pocket.

Other complaints are more general Android annoyances then specific to the G2. For instance, the Facebook app. Its just better optimized for the iPhone. Scrolling on newsfeed, it hangs up about every 8th post and you have to wait a few seconds for the photo to load or if you scroll really fast, you hit a bottom and have to wait for more posts to load. On the iPhone, you can just keep scrolling and pics load instantly. Maybe its the smaller display but its annoying on the G2 and I am on FB a lot networking for my business, so thats a big issue for me.

I might give it a few more days but as of now, I am leaning more towards keeping the 5s. The bigger screen just isnt as much of a pull as it is for some people on the go all the time since I work from home and always have my iPad mini around if I really feel the need for a larger screen device. Overall, I think the G2 is a solid phone, just not sure its ideal for me.

Thank you for saving me the trouble of returning my 5S, purchasing something else and then having to return it for my 5S. Tomorrow my return window for the 5S closes. I have been fluctuating between keeping the 5S, the G2 and the S Note 3. I have the feeling I would ultimately go back to the 5S despite my disappointment with the smaller screen size. After screen size there just doesn't seem to be much of an upside for switching and a lot of compromises.

Well, I would still recommend trying it out for yourself if you can. I am just giving my impressions. Update on the battery and its not good. Im just blown away that a battery this big can perform so badly, even sitting in a movie for 90 minutes not touching the G2, it dropped 6%. The 5s dropped 1% during that time. Remember, my 5s has been off the charger 5 hours longer than the G2 as well. Screen size aside, I cant think of any solid advantages of the G2 over my 5s. Android itself is easier to do some things in comparison but its not enough to outweigh the cons I dont think.

Is that 20 hours and 46 minutes on your G2 with 12% left? I would love that much battery life on one of my phones, especially if that's with more than two hours of screen on time.

The battery can burn through quickly if you don't figure out what is draining it. I rooted mine and disabled a bunch of bloat and the carrier IQ on AT&T version and I have to say my battery life is phenomenal. I always have about 40-50% left at the end of the day with decent usage. I had minimal texting the other morning and it only dropped 1% in 5 hours.

If you are getting bad battery you most likely have a wake lock and need to figure out what it is that won't let your phone sleep.

Yes thats the problem with android. Rogue apps or just random things can really mess up your battery life.

Yea, I am very familiar with Android. I close every app religiously before I put my phone down after every use. I also look at the task manager just to be sure.

funny cause I never really close anything in task manager and my battery life is fine. I used greenify to determine what was running in background as well as don't use google now (when I had this enabled my battery life was crap)

my baseline for brightness is also 55%

I don't use Google now either and having to download apps and have to be monitoring and babying my phone to preserve battery is a big reason I got an iPhone in the first place. I have the G2 at 80% brightness. Lowered it to 55 and that was awful, everything had a bad blue tint and video looked bad. I couldn't even enjoy a phone with brightness set that low. I can keep my 5s at near full brightness all day and be just fine.

I would love to get this phone but its only 16gb:(
my network providers are not selling the 32gb and 16gb is way too small for me:(

It's called auto brightness bud but you seem so sold on your iPhone so take back your g2 and get over it. Screen is better than my old iPhone 5 and my batter lasts for 2 days. But hey whatever works for you.

Have you tried it without closing apps? My understanding is that task killers and such haven't been necessary since 2.2 came out. You could also install gsam battery monitor to keep track of what's using your battery.

Dont use auto brightness, I dont like it at all. Mine is set to 80%. No idea how you get your battery to last 2 days though, you must never touch it. The G2 has been off the charger for 10hrs 12mins and the battery is at 51% with moderate use today. It says I only have 13% use in the past 3 hours. My 5s has been off the charger the same amount of time and Im at 54% with 2hrs 33mins use. Only difference was about 10 minutes of calls on the G2. I expected much better from such a huge battery.

I'd second that. My G2 gets much better battery life than my iPhone 5 did. After the iOS 7 update, I battery life was terrible. I'd have like 30% left when I am done with work on a good day. One bad day, I'd be on the charger at noon or it would die before my day was done if i didn't have it.

The 5s might be different, but I can't believe it would be that much more. That and I can't stand iOS 7. Don't mind the redesign, but the fact that you couldn't do anything until the animations were dine killed it for me. It just took longer for me to do the things that I needed to do that was super quick in iOS 6, so I switched back.

Must be because as you can see from my screenshots a few posts back, my 5s is getting better battery life than my G2.

Have you tried a factory reset? Or running the phone in safe mode for a day or two to see if it is a hardware problem?

It seems like your 5s was getting about as much usage as much iPhone 5 was. I'll have to see how my G2 does once I get back on the swing of things.

Yea, I average around 6hrs use and I still have 20%-25% or so when I plug it back in 16-17 hours later. Days I only use it around 5 hours or less, I'll have over 30% left. Good enough for me.

use my phone a good bit through out the day to play games, text, twitter, facebook, instagram, browse the web, check email and listen to pandora. Unplugged at 6:30am and when I plugged it back in at 10:30 at night I had 54% left.

I have a couple widgets, 4 that actually connect to web, but I set the weather to only update like every 4 hours. I also have it disable wifi when the phone isn't plugged in and screen is off, that is under the advanced settings in wifi, that might prevent your phone from actually sleeping. The setting is called "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" - only when plugged in. Other than that I have avoid poor connections and wi-fi optimization so it minimizes battery use. Wifi and Bluetooth are always enabled though.

But like I said, I rooted my phone, got rid of AT&T bloatware, disabled the carrier iq which I felt was hurting battery, and used greenify to hibernate anything I saw that runs in the background, which wasn't really much.

Other than that I never really use task manager and if I do see my battery draining quickly for no reason I do a restart and that usually fixes it.

This is my first android device after coming from iPhone for 5 years. There was definitely a learning curve at first, but once I got it dialed in this thing has really been a beast for me.
