And from LG’s website. Maybe Apple is compensating them. Perhaps it’s a whisper clearance sale. It's gone from the US store now. Just like you, the 4K is still there.
Just shows how much profit Apple is making from these products. At least they are finally giving us what we've wanted for years with the Studio Display. And the 27" iMac is gone, too. The only option to get your hands on one of those glorious 5K displays is the Studio Display now. What a bargain the 27" iMac was! The computer basically came for free.
So i stopped by a store today. They had them (but doesnt show in app or website) for $1299. So no clearance pricing, just yellow (!) in their in store ipad. They werent sure if come next friday theyd be gone permanently.
Apple consistently earns 35-40% margins which is HUGE in the PC industry. That said, I think the actual margin on the Studio Display is similar to the 27” iMac. They are including an A13 processor vs. an Intel i5/i7. They just aren’t including an OS. And they upgraded the camera and speakers and redesigned the case.Just shows how much profit Apple is making from these products. I am still keeping my UltraFine 5K monitors for a long time.
I don’t have any issues playing HDCP content on my Ultrafine. Maybe something else in your setup isn't compliant?I was just reminded of another issue with the LG UltraFine 5k. It doesn't support HDCP! When I try to play any Apple purchased movies, I get the error message "This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)". I missed this point when shopping for the LG and am shocked it isn't mentioned more frequently. At least for me, it's a complete deal breaker.
Presumably not an issue on the new Studio Display?
In one of the Studio Display reviews I read, LG said that they expect the 5K UltraFine displays to be back in stock in about a month. So it isn’t discontinued. Interesting... I wonder if they will drop the price. Seems like a tough sell at the current price compared to the new Studio Display. Might be an attractive option for folks if they dropped it down to $800 or so.In one of the Studio Display reviews I read, LG said that they expect the 5K UltraFine displays to be back in stock in about a month. Given the underwhelming reviews for the Studio Display, they may not have much incentive to drop the price.Interesting... I wonder if they will drop the price. Includes a stand, decent webcam, power cable can be removed, VESA mount included and can be changed… It’s pretty good even at that price point for almost exactly the same panelGiven the underwhelming reviews for the Studio Display, they may not have much incentive to drop the price.
The stand is a bit wobbly, but yes, it is included, along with the VESA mount. It is a good panel, and it has tight macOS integration. Obviously, Apple isn’t selling it directly anymore, but it will be interesting to see how many Apple resellers continue to stock it.Includes a stand, decent webcam, power cable can be removed, VESA mount included and can be changed… It’s pretty good even at that price point for almost exactly the same panel
I owned that monitor briefly in my quest to find a high ppi alternative to the LG 5K. For me, the brightness wasn't high enough at around 400 nits for a bright room, and the ppi wasn't high enough for me. It is the only option of its type though, if you want something ultrawide that is. Colour was very good on it. It did have the temporary image retention problem, yes. It wasn't a small issue LOL.Thinking of purchasing the 34” LG 34WK95U-W. Does this monitor suffer from the burn in issues as well as the wake from sleep issues?
Is there a better alternative to this monitor that can provide fairly high DPI in a similar size?
If it doesn't work with a Thunderbolt 3 Intel Mac, then it's probably broken. Try with more Thunderbolt cables and try connecting it to a Thunderbolt 3 dock or device. Is my monitor condemned?
Yep happens all the time for me with my M1 Max MacBook Pro. It’s not even specifically sleep-related since I have that laptop set not to sleep but to just turn off the display after 15 mins. Still happens.Did anyone ever come up with a fix to the M1 brightness issue?
I just upgraded from a Intel MacBook Pro to the M1 MacBook Air and I am seeing this. It's not a big deal, but it shouldn't be happening.
- When waking up from sleeping, the monitor starts with maximum brightness. But one press on the brightness button on the keyboard helps.
Still doing this for me on a MBP with M1 Pro, and first gen LG5K. Monitor brightness works just fine when using other monitors (where brightness controls are in the monitor), it's just the LG5K that exhibits this problem.Did anyone ever come up with a fix to the M1 brightness issue?

Nope. Apple wants you to buy their display.Does true-tone not work with the Mac Studio and the LG 5K? I can't get it to work...
