FYI: Hooked up to an HP ZBook and got 5k through its thunderbolt connection. This is the first Windows machine that has worked for me at 5K. The only thing that I had to tweak was that it defaulted to mirroring and 4K. All Windows 10 native drivers as far as I can tell.

now tempted to try my POS work dell just to see what happens...

When I run my LG 5K through my Caldigit TS4, I get an occasional red frame appear quickly and disappear on the perimeter of the screen. Doesn't happen running directly through the Mac. Ideas?

Did anyone ever come up with a fix to the M1 brightness issue?
  • When waking up from sleeping, the monitor starts with maximum brightness. But one press on the brightness button on the keyboard helps.
I just upgraded from a Intel MacBook Pro to the M1 MacBook Air and I am seeing this. It's not a big deal, but it shouldn't be happening.

I have the same issue. But for me it's actually a deal breaker.

It's not only annoying. The brightness on each wake up is too bright for me - it actually hurts the eyes.

I still have until May 5 to return - will definitely return the monitor.

For this price it must be flawless in every respect.

Mine actually wakes up at 50% and I absolutely hate it.

Does true-tone not work with the Mac Studio and the LG 5K? I can't get it to work...
It doesn't. But Night Shift and auto-brightness do work.

True Tone adjusts white point temperature. Night Shift does too, but more drastically and only in one direction.

For clamshell intel-mac users, what's the experience like running the LG5K plus another 4k monitor? Is the fan noise noticeable?

I am running a 2018 MBP in clam shell mode with 2 monitors (not the LG5K though) and there is some fan noise when under heavy load but pretty quiet otherwise.

Has anyone found a simple USB-C to 3.5 mm soundcard/dongle that plays nice with the monitor?

The Apple USB C to 3.5 mm soundcard/dongle pops and crackles all the time when music stops playing.
Sonata HD 3.5 mm dongle has issues with turning off it the sound isn't loud enough.

Posted a separate thread about the issue so reply there if you have any input :) https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...gle-that-works-apple-dongle-does-not.2349654/

What is the quality of all the jacks on the LG monitor? Is it possible to get high res lossles through it?
if so what hardware did you use? Does it make a noticeable difference for the better?
I find it odd that Apple Music offers high res lossless but no earbuds, headphones or easy way to use it/hear it!

Recently got a 27MD5KL and am having an issue with USB devices attached to it disconnecting sporadically.

I have an Anker 10-port 60W hub attached to it — with various bits hanging off it — Rode NT-USB Mini, Rode Ai-1 and keyboard.

Every now and then, all my USB devices stop working. To solve it I unplug the Thunderbolt connection and plug it back in again.

This happens maybe once a day or so. Has anyone else experienced this?

I think the Satechi hubs are generally regarded as the best, mine is working fine at least.

Hi all,

Just writing with a very basic query about setup, from those of you who have this monitor already.

I have a 14" Macbook Pro M1 Max, and am thinking of this monitor for the desk.

I'm a bit unclear on how the audio and video function when running the laptop through the screen.

How do I select the LG monitor camera to work as the main camera when the laptop is closed and connected?

Can I also run audio through my stereo Homepod minis, rather than the monitor speakers?

Obvious questions perhaps, but just want to be 100% sure of the setup.

Thank you.

Normally it switches automatically when you plug the monitor in. Otherwise the applications (like FaceTime) let you select the video source. System Settings - Sound lets you pick an output device if you want to use your minis.

Thank you. I thought that would be the case, good to double check before spending the cash!

I have been having the M1 Max MacBook Pro + LG 5k dim on wake issue. I have had some success using Better Touch Tool - it has a trigger to run an action on ‘wake from sleep’ and I find that setting it to wait a few seconds ‘delay next action by x seconds’ after wake and then ’brightness down (external display)‘ followed by ‘brightness up (external display) fixes the dimming issue.

It is triggered by the MacBook waking from sleep - not necessarily the display. There may be a better way to do it in Better Touch Tool but this is at least a start.

Hello everyone,

I am about to order an UltraFine 4K monitor and I would like to know if it is possible to detach the base from the stand. I am not talking about the stand, but only the base that you put on a desk.

I had done it on my Dell monitor to screw it on like on the picture below.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone, I need help! My LG 5k UltraFine display suddenly wont respond to brightness controls. Yup, I've got the same problem many on this forum have been complaining about. I just updated my OS to 12.5.1, and I use a MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max. My display preferences show now brightness slider. No amount of restarts or unplugs are solving this problem. In clamshell mode, the display is at what I am assuming is 50% brightness. When I open the MacBook and use its display and the LG, then I can adjust the MacBook display brightness no problem, but not the LG. I have no idea how to find a firmware update file for the LG Screen Manager. The LG website doesn't seem to list any firmwares. Does anyone have a workaround or a fix? Please help! Thank you all
