I thought you had a perpetual on PS from your earlier post. If not, kinda depends on your use level.

Grab the affinity Photos Beta (free) and see if that cuts it for your infrequent photoshop needs. Pixelmator has periodic sales for $15. There are a few other options out there if it is just once every couple of months. Paying every month for something you use once a quarter is not a good solution unless that once is a big payday.

If you have neither and want both, it is a decent price for compared to what buying used to cost.

I personally do not like the license model (I am one of those people who refer to renting software), and I would argue that the Affinity/Pixelmator/Paintshop Pro (Windows) pricing would indicate that photoshop could have been sold profitably for a lot less money.

I have CS4. There's been quite a few things added since then and only CC is retina ready, so it was time for an upgrade.

If your asking me, and not another member, then yes, I had an old version that was replaced with newest one with the subscription. I'm sure I have the installer DMGs somewhere. For what ever reason my old version of PS was not liking Yosemite and would not start up. I never really investigated why, because now I'm on a newer version. So I may or may not have it at this point :)

My gf is using Pixelmator and Affinity Designer (in lieu of Photoshop and Illustrator) for freelance work. The only thing she mentioned was missing was an vectorization tool in Designer (she likes to draw illustrations by hand and then color them on the computer).

I think Pixelmator is an incredible bargain. I didn't even bother to install my copy of Photoshop when I bought my retina iMac last year. Pixelmator can do everything I used to use Photoshop for. That said, Lightroom has gotten good enough that I almost never have to use Pixelmator.

It was my plan to use Pixelmator if I had been able to go the Photos route, but since I decided I needed LR I get PS for free so I'm going to invest my time in learning that. There are also some things Pixelmator can't yet do (adjustment layers and panoramas are the ones that come to mind).

Don't get me wrong Pixelemator is very capable and I do like it, but I have PS so I might as well use it. I don't use it very often though and with LR 6 there will be a few less reasons to use it. I like having it there incase I need it though.

If you have a CC subscription, then this only makes sense – you can make the decision solely on the basis of your personal preference. For my gf and me, it was just about budget constraints, licenses for older versions of CS (CS4-CS6) are ridiculously high and she was unable to get a cross-grade from her Windows student edition of CS4 to the Mac version. I think she would have been happy with CS4, too, but Adobe made that impossible. I was surprised that LR6 is still available via a traditional software license.

Any additional rumors?
I'm guessing at this point we'll have to wait until Monday. It is interesting that both LR 6 and the Apple Event are happening Monday. Likely not a coincidence.

I'm guessing Photos will be officially released on Monday as well.

I think Adobe is a little bummed out that the apple event is Monday, though I will say that the apple event is for a completely different market segment and I don't think Adobe is having a media event for this, just releasing it.

What I was getting at is Adobe likely knew when the event was going to be and scheduled the release for that day. What better way to help people pick up the pieces from being devastated at how bad Photos is the to have a shiny new version of LR available? It makes complete sense for Adobe to do this, get people on their product while its front and center.

Not likely. 10.10.3 public beta with Photos was just released; even if you think Apple is short circuiting testing that would be an awful short public beta. I'd bet on Apple Watch. I think iOS 8.2 is also due next week.

Given that, I don't know that other than general interest in new tech that there's any significance there. An upgrade from LR 5.7 to 6 isn't exactly a big deal, nor is 1010.3 and a photo application. At least not like the hoopla attending an Apple Watch.

Agreed. I'll be very surprised if Photos get's any mention on stage with Apple either. If it does get a mention, it should be a public apology for such a useless app. :D

It really is a piece of junk. Not only did they strip away a ton of features, but what's there doesn't feel finished. I also really don't like navigation paradigm for getting around the app.

Apple's event won't be mentioning Photos. I think we know what they'll be talking about.

Adobe shouldn't be worried. It's a different market they sell to.

I don't think its worry as much as the media will only provide a passing mention on LR6 as everyone will be focused on the apple watch.

I think it'll get the same attention it always gets. Nobody goes crazy over Adobe releases except photo blogs. I'll be watching (reading) both.

And really I don't think that there's any certainty that it really will be released on the 9th. Has anyone seen any verification of that beyond that one French site? That page is no longer active.

I think both are right, Adobe isn't looking for fanfare other then its core base of photographers, and secondly we're all but expecting it monday and well, Adobe hasn't said that is in fact the case.

I really hope it is Monday, I'm aching to see what's new :D

And of course if you are on CC subscription you get LR6 as soon as its announced? At least that would be my understanding.

Do we know what time Lightroom 6 is likely to be available from? Will it be midnight US or do you think release will be staggered?
