OK, I'm at Millenia Mall now. They've got two MBAs on display. It's incredibly light and thin (duh -- but actually seeing one in person really hits it home). I could definitely slip one into my messenger bag without worrying about space or weight.
Now if only they'd sell the damned things! Still "no idea" when units will be available. I've gotta say, this is pretty ridiculous.
It figures, though: the first time I decide to buy a Mac, and Apple won't let me have one.
Hey Bostonians, I'll be at the Cambridge side galleria quasi-camping out to get my MacBook Air. I spoke to "Josh" one of the sales reps at the store. He said to "call in around 9-9:30 am, there will be people there to answer questions. We can't tell you HOW many we have, but we can tell you if we have them or not."
He also mentioned that there's a good chance that they'll get a pretty big shipment since it JUST launched and since they generate more sales on Saturday than any other day.
My plan...get there around 7, hangout a bit. Call at 9ish hopefully hear some good news, leave with MacBook Air. If you'd like to join me, we can all meet up. I'll bring some coffee and doughnuts.
Just came back from Stamford, CT store. Two units on display, one working, the other in the display window. None for sale.
The curious thing is that I asked several sales people, and each one had to ask their manager for status. I would have thought that with all the interest so far, the salespeople would all know the party line by now. I was there at 7:45pm.
I have a hard time believing that the salespeople I asked weren't asked previously.
Meces hit the nail on the head.
I went to a particular Boston area store when I thought things were about to break loose. Hilarious. Worker just showed up to work and reply to my request for Air was...oh yeah...we got a huuuge shipment in this morning...I'm sure we have some still. She then talked to another dude and he said...Oh...we don't have any at all...she and I exchanged pleasantries still and then she said she'd go in back just to double check. She never appeared again. Someone else came out and said they don't have any and might have them this weekend. Call back tomorrow.
I think it is a little cute...however I have a problem with a company that asks its employees to explicitly lie to its customers. This has obviously been the case throughout the last couple of days. I'll buy their product but won't invest in their company anymore.
I don't think my post was rude at all like the response you posted to me "king of all fanboys."
At least you got a "next week" All I was told was to order online.I hit Otay Ranch and UTC on my way home.
Both had Demos.
Both said on sale next week.
Both wouldn't take my money.
Interesting business concept...
PM me if you know the secret password since I know UTC was giving them out earlier in the day.

The mall doesn't officially open until 10, same with the Apple store. Can you actually get into the mall at 7? I'll probably try to get there around 9ish, maybe a little earlier if I think they'll let us into the mall. Any ideas about that?
... too bad the burrito place across the street doesn't open until later.
Do you think we all could keep it together long enough to stage a boycott?
NO! I'll crack as soon as they offer to take my money!
Sad, but true.
[/QUOTE]Well, i did this before for the iPhone launch ( i was the 2nd in line BTW) tee hee. What I did that time was camp out at the park area across the street from the mall in from of cheese cake factory. They cant kick you off the street in front of the park. Its public property. But as soon as you cross, the security kindly tells you can't "loiter" in front of the mall.
for the iphone release, i got there at 3am (for the 6pm release), and just waited in front by the park. At 7 they let us in the mall lobby as it was a big release. for the MBA there isn't/wasn't a big release planned, so I figure they probably wont let us in til about 9 anyway. But i WOULD however like to get a jump on the competition if a line does begin to form. I figure the extrat 2 hours would do me some good.
If you guys would like to meet up, I'm so game.
