none at Ala Moana, HI
not even demos
they didn't even have the banners up when i went

hey...i went to ala moana at 3:30pm and they had one unit at the genius bar. it looks like they just took it out of the box.

but as far as for sale units..they said next week. but they tend to give conservative estimates...so I feel its only a matter of days

if u're involved with the ed system...UH's rainbowtique has em cheaper... no free printer like ala moana, but if any of u folks dont need a printer its better to get from them....

but they have no return policy

i'm going to get it for ala tho... if they ever get it in stock...

Is anyone going to arrive early this morning to get one? I may try, but I still think they will not have them.

My insomnia has kicked in and I only got four hours of sleep, so I might as well head over to the mall when it opens and see if I can snag anything (at least maybe some info, or enough pity to reserve a unit when they're finally available).

Yeah, I was annoyed on Tuesday when the Apple store people were totally mystified as to when a new product would be available, but now it's just ridiculous.

Yea, I woke up at 6, with a combination of the start of a cold and excitement for another attempt to spend $1800. I probably won't head down to the mall until ~9am though, because they don't open until 10am.

Good luck to everyone trying today. We'll probably need it.

Just came back from the apple store 5th avenue at about 12:30am.
They had about 8 MBA's on display.
When I inquired about purchasing one for my friend they insisted that none were available..when I said that I know people have purchased them earlier today they acted totally ignorant.
Anyways..I have mine and i'm posting from it now but they refused to sell me two which my friends were ready to buy.
They said call every hour on the hour to check for availability.
The vague answers they are giving are very irritating...
I mean either it's for sale or it isn't..they act like i'm trying to buy crack or something...heading to the soho store tomorrow to try and buy two with my friends who are here from L.A.

try the 14th st store - thats where i got mine from yesterday at noon. they were very friendly and honest with me. i think they are expecting stock today - but am not sure - but definitely check them out - not nearly as busy as the other two stores

Ever heard of supply and demand? There's the answer to your question.

 Of course, but in this case, it appears to be backfiring. People are walking out of stores ticked-off and frustrated. Apple isn't exactly doing a stellar job in implementing the theory, IMHO.

When they released the all new aluminum iMac, sure there was a shortage but at least they were getting supplies in and the deficit was because they were selling out continuously. Too, the store employees were being very forthright about when they were expecting new shipments and, in fact, offering to put one on hold for me. None of this playing coy or flat out lying about it.

No, I've never seen Apple handle any product release in this manner.

I remember when the original macbook came out just two years ago. Steve announced it, I was at work, and I waited until I got home to grab my credit card and headed to the mall that evening.

The people there were very friendly, knew exactly what I was looking for, went back to check the stock and brought me out one right away... the day they were announced. Granted, they had already been shipped to the store either that day or the day before.

Now, I get mystery and weird looks when I press people for information... it's not like they're gaining anything by being mysterious about the Airs... if anything, they're ticking me off to the point that I'd go buy a Sony Viao and sit outside of their store with a sign saying "LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME BUY!"

I'm off to check out South Hills Village at 10am when they open. Here's hoping.

Very true. Hey I am ready to spend $1800, so can you give me a straight answer? This is not good.
I have a personal shopper appointment at 9am sharp this morning. I am sure I will come up empty, but maybe I can get some more "top secret" info.

did you call ahead to check inventory?

I think the experience yesterday was that calling ahead was worthless. People were telling customers on the phone that they had none while other customers were walking out with theirs.

I'm going to go to a slightly quieter store today when they open and see what happens.

The things we do for love. :)

Well, I'm in the store (@Millenia) messing around on a demo unit. Haven't asked if there's any stock for sale yet.

Photo Booth loads up pretty slowly even on the 1.8 GHz unit.

Please tell us if they are selling them! I am heading out to my local store soon!

Sorrowful update: the concierge (?) says that this store only got 3 units in: the two demos and a display model that's behind glass at the front of the store. They also got only one banner in.

"The projection is that we'll have units on Monday."

Iit looks like Apple totally screwed the pooch on this launch. Even if there is some grave supply issue that's totally out of their hands, they must know exactly when and where things will be showing up, or at least make a conservative estimate and announce a solid launch date.

And it really sucks that the MBA is so nice. I can enjoy playing with it here, but I'm not allowed to take one home.

I just noticed that there's an eject button on the KB; I assume that is for the optional USB optical drive, since I've read that remote disc clients can't eject host drives.

Since the store just opened and is still pretty empty, most of the machines are running their screensavers: a loop of the MBA TV commercial. I feel like I'm being taunted.

Wow, what crap.

I guess I can go and do the same thing at my store. Oh well.

Did they even add you to a list to buy once they come in?
