I just got off the phone with the Crabtree Valley Mall store here in NC and all they have are demos. I inquired as to whether I would be able to get an education discount in store, which he said was no problem. I then went on to ask about the air and they have none for sale. I asked whether they received Saturday deliveries of merchandise and he said "we do not." He was very helpful and not rude. Since I live 60+ miles from Raleigh, I doubt I will make the trek over there today. Was he correct in saying Apple Store "do not" receive Saturday deliveries? Also, has anybody else heard anything with regards to when this store will have stock, as I recall someone on here yesterday purchasing on from here?

I just called the Woodfield store in Schaumburg, IL. They said they have a demo, but just sold out of their stock.

I'm at cambridge side...I spoke to some folks at Best Buy (since the apple stores wont give me shipping info). The dude at Best Buy said that typically saturday deliveries come in around noon. So be around somewhere between 12-2pm. I plan to check in every hour to hopefully get some more info. We'll see. Hopefully I'll have some good news to report.

They won't say they have any for sale - PERIOD. Southpoint has two 1.8 ssd's on display. The lengths they'll go to NOT sell one are amazing. Got one but only due to luck and someone not getting "the word" at shift change. Quite a spectacle.

Saturday deliveries

I forgot to mention this is my store account yesterday.

FWIW...the concierge blue shirt said they do not get deliveries on Saturday so it would probably be next week until for-sale models were available. Of course, who knows what you can truly believe from these folks these past couple days.

As many of you have probably experienced with FedEx, unless you specifically pay more and choose Saturday delivery, anything that didn't make it to its destination on Friday will roll over to Monday. Even the "priority" services. Now, sometimes when you choose Fed Ex Standard (2-day) on a Friday it will actually get there Monday, even though that was only one true business day. I don't know if Apple would have known to pony up and pay more for Saturday shipments to get the MBA going b/c of bad weather, or just done this mass shipment as they normally would and have it get there when it got there.

no different than any other new product or company...

Last week there were none, this week there were a few, next week there will be many more. Stop whining: this is no different than any other new product roll out from any other company. I know we are all passionate about our Macs (obsessed?), but c'mon. Is a couple of days really going to make a difference in your life?

And keep in mind: the waiting and anticipation is half the fun.

For me, yes, a couple of days will make a difference. I am about to have to go on a six day business trip. My laptop can no longer keep up with what I need it to do. I leave town on Tuesday. This is why I didn't pre-order. Two weeks shipping (arrival) would have been ok, but not three. Since there is not that much to do with BTO, I figured the stores would have them right at the shipping times. Every day counts!

It's not so much the waiting as it is the general evasiveness coming from the personnel of the various Apple Stores. If there are delays because of the adverse weather in China, then why not just say so. Apple's press release two days ago did say the the MBA was now available from both Apple Stores and third party resellers...so where are they? Everything is still listed as "Preorder" even on Apple's online store.

Tampa FL
I hit the I-Plaza store in Tampa again today, first thing when they opened. I figured if they didn't get any, I'd at least get to play some more with the demo.

I walk in and the demo was gone, I ask where it was, and the girl doesn't know, another guy chimes in about a problem with the security lock, so I say, ok, I'd like to buy it. He says no, and I ask if this is normal for Apple to release a product and to not actually have them for sale. He says, yeah, just like the iPhone. Then I got mad, basically told him he was full of it and I didn't come down there to be lied to. He defended his position, but we all know the iPhone came out on on time, on June 29th, and there were plenty to go around. Finally I asked him for his name, so I could report him for being rude and lying to me. Then I left, very frustrated.

Although this is frustrating, I suppose it is typical for a retailer and or mall employees.

I was at the Freehold Mall store in NJ this morning when it opened. Talked to two people and asked if they have them in stock and they both said.

"We have 3 demos up front"

-_-

Yes I know I saw them when I walked in and played with them for about 5 minutes, "Do you have any to sell"

"No"

So I ask when they will have them for sale,

"We are not sure, maybe next week"

However this store is taking your name down and will call when they do come in.

The people at both the Menlo Park and Short Hills stores have been very short and nasty whenever I try and call. The people at the Freehold store are at least courteous, even though they don't have much information(much like everyone).

I know I may seem like I am being impatient, but at least give me some solid information. I like the days of "and they will be available for purchase today". At least give us some concrete information.

This is down right rude and "unapple" like. I have been treated very poorly at my local Apple store at Mayfair Mall in Wisconsin. They are looking at me like why are you wasting my time. Oh, yea I just want to buy a product and you are not helping me out one bit. Not even taking my name down.

I am calling Apple corporate right now I am so mad. I usually don't bother, but this time it really is bad.

No demo units at Sugar Land, TX... reading the thread I find that there are demo units at Houston Galleria and Woodlands. Has anyone been to the Memorial City store?

Ok, so I just spoke with a phone rep via the online store. She was very nice about things. I think they did not meet the demand, and were holding back on producing them. The other issue is the recent snow storm in China bla bla. But I did tell her that the retail stores and being very rude and not giving us any details. But I still can't help but wonder why some stores sold a few. Oh well, maybe I should just get a Macbook instead.

Southpark mall

Just visited the Apple store at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte NC. They had 4 demo units on display but none in stock. They told me they do not get Saturday shipments and there shipments come in Tuesday thru Friday and to check with them 11:00-1130 if any arrived and they would hold one for me as I have a 2 hour drive in. It was funny the store was packed and not many people at all were looking at the Air. I must say the Apple employee was very helpful and showed me a lot of the features.

Just went to the SOHO store and i get the same lame-o line, "we don't have any to sell today." When I mentioned that they sold them there yesterday, he just repeated himself....this is my 3rd visit to an apple store since they have had them on display.

I'm seriously reconsidering the MBA....one of the reasons I decided to spring for it was because I was excited about it. But this whole experience has sapped the joy and excitement from the experience. Now it's more of a hassle as I keep going back to the stores only to be more and more disapointed/upset/angry. I was buying this as a "companion" machine to my desktop....and my first mac. This whole experience leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. Now I'm thinking that $3,000 is a lot for an internet machine. Sorry :apple:, looks like you just lost yourself 3g's.

I know how you feel. I've been strung around this week. I like that I can just waste time, but theres a limit to where you don't even feel like getting it anymore. I want the SSD version and if I'm not getting it today I wont be getting it next week. Don't need to start my week off annoyed.

To all you folks bitching and whining about there being displays but none to sell, espically NC MacGuy who yelled at employees until he got one...

You should be ashamed of yourselves. Apple Store employees go to work every day to do the most that they can to make the best experience possible for every customer. And if that means that more people get to play with a demo unit until supplies increase, versus you, the most important customer ever, being able to buy one, well that's how it is.

Listen I have worked retail before (Abercrombie), so I know the struggle and "woe is me attitude" of the retail scene. But I never once was nasty or acted annoyed to a customer, even though there were many patrons who weren't exactly friendly or easy to deal with. The whole excuse that working retail sucks and they are in the right to treat customers crappy is ludicrous.

If you didn't want to deal with customers or work in retail... then don't take the job. It can get annoying to deal with the same question over and over again, but thats what you get paid for! To just give crappy one line answers and keep loyal customers is the dark is crap. Even if you don't have any information regarding the product, just politely tell me that. There is no reason to get snappy on the phone, because I want to spend $3,000 on a laptop at your store.

I never understood people justifying a nasty attitude to a customer, because retail is a "tough" market to work in.

Simmer down. If they are going to carry any in the back and sell to some, but not others, they really are getting whats coming. I haven't yelled at anyone. Though I know I probably would today if I go through the stores yet again that have them in stock, but keep lying.

so, I sat in front of the store talking to a couple of others in the same boat for a couple of hours. The manager saw us, and gave us periodic updates, letting us know that they hadn't gotten anything in yet. Then at 11:45 or so, she found the four of us an let us know that the shipment for the day had come, without any MBAs. She said to check back Monday.

She was the manager that I had spoken to earlier, and finding us to let us know that sort of made up for earlier, when she was not helpful.

Also, the unit sold yesterday was the only one that they had to sell so far. Just a single unit. I guess I'll check back on Monday.

I was just at the Woodfield store in Chicago. They have 4 on display. The 2 I tried were both 1.8 Ghz, and I'm guessing with the SSD. The capacity shows as 55GB. That's 60GB to me, not 64GB.

When Apple says thin, they mean it. This thing is really thin. It has a nice feel when I hold it in my hands. I like that. Durability? I'm not so sure, the LED was a little bendy. I suppose if someone wanted to, they could break the casing in half.

I also went over to the Sony store to take a look at the TZ series that was compared with the Air. That thing was the ugliest computer I've ever seen. Compared to the Air, it was very thick. I didn't like the small screen and keyboard.

I was at the SF store (main one) this morning at opening time, and asked about the Air and the external optical drives. I was told repeatedly that both were not available. I then asked another rep just about drives, and she said sure, hold on -- and went and got one. After buying it, I had a chat with the manager, expressing my frustration at being told hourly over the phone yesterday that the Air was not available, only to read about purchases here, and then to be told in-person today something was not in stock, only to have it actually be readily available. He was polite and apologetic; it's still disappointing, though. It makes me wonder what the secret handshake is.
