Nope; I was in the middle of a conversation with the guy and about to ask about reserving a unit, but he got called away and hasn't come back. Guess I'm forgotten.

Has anyone checked out FL Mall? I'd go, but I'm sure it's the same situation over there.

Connecticut Update

Stamford still says that they only have display units. However, the salesperson I spoke to said to check back in the mid afternoon. Maybe they are waiting for a delivery.

Called South Hills Village, Pittsburgh - "None in stock, one on display, hope to have them early next week"

Called Shadyside, Pittsburgh - "Let me check... No, we have them on display, none 'available for sale'"... I ask when they'll be available ... "Let me check... Um, you'll probably get it faster if you order it from our website"

Here that guys? Give up! It'll be another 2-3 weeks... ha ha ha... right.

Overthinking this?

So, two concierges suggested yesterday that I order online and could expect typical ship times, but the apple online store is still saying pre-order under the picture of the MBA and the ship time of 2-3 weeks. I can understand still being conservative with the ship time, but is there any correlation between the strange happenings at Apple stores WRT these machines and the website still saying "pre order"? Especially since they put out the press release that appears under the hot news section that says they are "now shipping."

Hopefully it is all just a logistical misfire that can be blamed on weather in China and we'll all look back and laugh at this when posting MBA user comments next week.

Truth is even worse!

After you complete the purchase and they take your money you find out that the expected ship date is now 2/25.

u try uvillage?

why you people dont just commute to PDX, OR and get tax exempt....

and ranting-why does NY have more than the west coast? apple is in Cali... and shanghai china (origin) is closer to us, yet their store is 24/7?

The Seattle stores are full of crap. I went to u village at 6:20pm last night and was told by 2 people they didn't have any. One guy said the had the superdrives and I asked why they had the drives but no MBA. He said they had 1 base model and 5 minutes later I was walking out the door to handshakes and applause by all the employees. I say don't give up. Don't be rude but be persistant.

Spoken from experience? This is what I'd be afraid of. Of course, some have said that you can cancel your order before it ships if you're able to pick one up in an :apple: store.

Hostile Environment Warning

The Apple Store in Burlington is simply hanging up on you when you call and ask about the MBA. I had my wife call from her cell and they did the same to her. There is a store that needs a management shakedown....

Quick Story for Atlanta people.

Went to Lenox and asked a rep. if they had any in stock. He insisted that they had not gone on sale yet. I told him about the pictures I saw about people who bought there's around the nation and he said I was WRONG!! I just looked at him for about 10 seconds. Another rep. jumped into the conversation and I asked him the same question, and he said he sold 3 this morning. They only got three in the shipment. The first rep. looked really dumb and I just laughed at him. I used to think Lenox was the top dog store in GA... i think not now!!

any news from the east coast yet? I'm planning to head to the michigan store this morning and might even just wait there for a couple hours (if I have to.) It would be great if they started selling first thing in the morning though ;)

As is typical in the US, we are completely unaware of events in the rest of the world. There are major snow storms in China effecting even the Shanghai area with power outages and transportation issues, even at the airport. Over 100 million people have been without power for nearly a week in severe cold and snow. So perhaps our toys are not the primary issue in that area at this time.

I would also think that shipment schedules for FedEx have been interrupted by this weather situation.

That's true for now. I'm camping in front of the store in case somebody walks out with one. Rumor in the mall is that Saturday shipments come in typically before 1.

Otherwise, it's been the same, awful customer service as yesterday.

You make a very valid point and the storm has caused issues all over different industries. You would think it would in Apple's best interest to simply state the facts. If that is truly the issue, which it very well may be, they should at least tell customers about it and explain that it will make deliveries erratic for the couple of weeks until the pipelines clear. Thus a unified, believable and perfectly reasonable answer to this whole problem. The problem I have is that they decided to go down the path of secrets and deception. I will have trouble believing them again.

I do hope that this can all be explained by bad weather in China, especially the inconsistent behavior that seems to be almost nationwide in :apple: stores. I wouldn't guess it would be store policy to say, "Well, all of our shipments come directly from China" as that might rub some would-be buyers the wrong way.

Sorrowful update: the concierge (?) says that this store only got 3 units in: the two demos and a display model that's behind glass at the front of the store. They also got only one banner in.

"The projection is that we'll have units on Monday."

Iit looks like Apple totally screwed the pooch on this launch. Even if there is some grave supply issue that's totally out of their hands, they must know exactly when and where things will be showing up, or at least make a conservative estimate and announce a solid launch date.

And it really sucks that the MBA is so nice. I can enjoy playing with it here, but I'm not allowed to take one home.

I just noticed that there's an eject button on the KB; I assume that is for the optional USB optical drive, since I've read that remote disc clients can't eject host drives.

Since the store just opened and is still pretty empty, most of the machines are running their screensavers: a loop of the MBA TV commercial. I feel like I'm being taunted.

Yup, they shouldn't have put them out if they didn't have any for sale.

I heard a few people play with them last night and say: "Wow this is real nice, how much are they."

Employee: "We don't have any"

People want to give apple 1800-3100 bucks and they can't give a straight answer?

Time to move on.

I think is more that obvious that Apple dropped the ball here and they have done some damage to their credibility. How widespread? I doubt very much, but it has a least made this group a tad bit testy and anxious. We all may live longer if we just accept the fact and move on. It very well may be fate. Everyone in this group seems to be dedicated Mac users and maybe there is some vicious hardware fault with the machines and the computer gods are protecting us! Ain't denial bliss.......:p
