Makes sense to me....

Actually it does make a whole lot of sense.

It kind of goes with the fact that a lot of pre order folks had the status change from prepared for shipment back to not yet shipped and other things that a clog in the logistics channels due to weather might have triggered. There has also been the inconsistent arrivals for pre-order folks as with the stores. Heck, it seems even two in the same city must have received them a day apart based on when they had demo models out and available.

I bet they wanted to have demo models and pre orders hit at the same time on the "two weeks" mark with the store availability shortly there after. That pretty much happened with everything just pushed a few days later. The stores might have even had an official sale date of Friday when a normal shipping schedule was assumed which could explain some of the inconsistent accounts of most people getting "no's" and some people getting lucky. Any on sale date was probably abandoned or pushed back but probably not easily communicated all the while since there might have been a chance they got stock.

The wait goes on. Sorry, I can't help this, but I'm guessing it will be a super Tuesday.

Good luck to you guys in the rest of your searches. Just bought a Black Macbook! I think I will be happier with the purchase. BTW, a different Apple store, but the same jaded employee response, buy it online!

Thanks and now I am off the the Macbook/Macbook Pro threads!

If it's your primary laptop, you made a wise choice. I'm looking for a coffee shop/travel/backporch type lap that I can carry around the house. Plus, I like shiney toys.:)

Ditto that. I finally just got to coach my first family member through his first Mac purchase last week (one down three to go). To get a laptop vs desktop was an easy choice, but then choosing from the now three laptop lines took some talking. Since he'd only have one and be traveling with it as his only computer, the MBA, as much I wanted to have another in the fam', wasn't a practical choice. He ended up with a nice, slightly upgraded black Mac Book. This is off topic here, but I have to say that iChat screen sharing is a God-send for helping a Mac newbie get up and going.

Some stores selling their demos to trouble makers makes perfect sense to me.

I can accept that someone else was more persistent than I was.
I can accpet that because of credit card issues my pre-order was backed up two days.
I can accept that there simply aren't enough MBA to go around, and I'll have to wait another week or two.

But I will not accept Apple employees who lie. The truth just isn't that bad, and even if I didn't know better, the lie they told wouldn't have made me feel better.
There is no excuse for lying, ever.

I was just on Apple's site and clicked on Apple retailers and there is a photo of the MBA and this beside it:

The world's thinnest notebook is coming.
MacBook Air will be available at Apple Retail Stores soon. Check back for the most up-to-date in-store availability.

That's one of the things that makes me believe that a retail launch isn't close.

Arrived at 10 am to the store in Tyson's corner. None in stock. 4 demos (HD and SSD). They claim they have not had any to sell at all yet. Manager and others were very nice. One other guy and myself hung around until the Fedex shipment arrived at noon. None in that shipment.

Checked the Bethesda row on the way back home. None there as well. (BTW, I also showed up at 10am to the Bethesda store on Friday; same result as today).

IMO, the apple employees are being as nice as they can be. This is not how I would choose the market these things but Apple has done well enough in the past that I might believe that all of this could be due to issues beyond their control (e.g. the China weather theory).

I guess I'm not too upset because its really my fault that I am so crazed that I can't wait a week for stock to build up. Why do I need this first day? I don't know. I'm a grown adult; I should be able to wait. Can't blame Apple for my own OCD :) now can I?

BTW - does anyone know if these things are quiet? I hate laptop fans.

Very quiet, very cool (temp.-wise) One thing I don't get is my old app.'s won't run. OLD PPC appleworks, Office X just show up as exe. unix documents that only open in terminal. Loaded a copy of Office '04 and it works fine. It seems only Univ. Binary. Maybe it's me.

Yeah, and it still says "ships 2-3 weeks" on the buy now/pre order page whichever the case may be.

Would be cool if they consider the order I just made a little while ago a pre-order. Probably would help me get it faster than a full retail launch.

No longer a pre order though, on the store page, it is just stated as a new product, the main AIR page, says buy it.

Hmm... makes me wonder, could Monday be the day?

Unless they have a secret distribution center state side I imagine. The whole discussion boards still in pre-release mode, images still showing pre-order and stores saying a few weeks STILL. What's going on China is really bad.

I know, I'm just bored, and sad. I won't be able to get a MBA soon enough, Monday, 3pm my co-workers are heading back to Brazil, so I need to "invent" something to keep my hope.

LOL.

Didn't you already have an order in before you tried the retail route? Of course, I could be mistaken and thinking of another member here...there have been quite a few on a quest to locate one locally in hopes of canceling their orders...lol (ya have to laugh or you'd cry!)

Just an amazon order after the keynote.

I've been on the retail route since this past Monday! I've had personal shopper appointments each day, been to all the stores, dozens of phone calls a day.
Of course I miss the three units they sold at Lenox this morning...
