I'm this close to telling Apple to take it's precious MBA and stick it down their lying throat.

I understand your frustration about the way the stores are going about things involving the MBA but what the hell is the emergency that you have to have it NOW? The AIR was just intro'd 2 weeks ago, it's not like we have to wait months. Think about it dude, all these people including you who are going into labor over the fact the Apple stores don't seem to want to POS the AIR's right away lose sight of one thing, Apple makes no money holding onto merchandise. They obviously have their reasons for not releasing them just yet.

I don't know what your needs are but I have Time Capsule on order and it's not being shipped until March and I need to back my stuff up now. At least the AIR is available after 2 weeks of introduction, be patient for goodness sake.:p
Wow, the MR forum members seem to have hated the AIR after it's intro but now that it's in the stores there's an emergency to have your new toy.

There is nothing quite like not being able to have or get something to make people even keener or indeed desperate.

Oh one more thing

One apple store employee said the stores are only going to carry the $1799 model and the $3098 model. The processor upgrade will only be sold online, the employee said.

That's what I was also told, tonight. The 1.8, with HD, will only be BTO.

tested out the MacBook Air's again and then decided to look at the MacBook Pro. Needless to say I am typing on that MacBook Pro right now and since Apple decided to take their sweet time I decided to get this machine.
:)
Do you know that the new mac book pro's are supposed to be out in a week or two? They will have multi-touch just like the air. I'd go get my money back, or see if you can return it in a couple of weeks if the new ones come out.

My frustration (as well as most peoples') would be non-existent if Apple and its employees (retail reps) would simply give us a straight answer about availability.

If every person said "Should be 2-3 weeks", and meant it, then everyone would be fine.

Instead, we have one rep saying we have them, one saying we don't, then someone actually buys one after being told no, then someone is told twice on the phone "yes" (by 2 different people), then told no twice when he shows up to buy the machine he was told they had!

I was personally blatantly lied to by a rep at the Santa Monica store. He told me "maybe in 2 weeks", then excused himself to the back (and didn't come back out) after I asked why someone had seen them being delivered 2 hours earlier! Then they sold some that they "didn't have" the next morning.

This is our frustration. Again, if someone would give us a definitive straight answer, then Apple would still have its reputation, and we wouldn't have to write and read through diatribes about our experiences.

The apple stores get deliveries every day. When the 15" iMac came out (flat screen, dome base) I got my call on Sunday that it had arrived.

I was just on Best Buy's website and noticed that the MBA is no longer listed as a pre-order, it's now listed as "out of stock" so I guess, that's an improvement?!
Also noticed that you have the option now to pick up in the store. So, I think all in all this is a positive! :)

I hope Amazon is next!! :D

Ardmore Philadelphia Store:

Go in Thursday. I'm told to "come back tomorrow and you won't be disappointed".
Go in Friday. I'm told "we just got the shipment in last night. Here's the display". I said I wanted one. The guy got jittery and said "that's the only one we have-uh, we can't sell them yet-uh, we only got the display model in so far". Meanwhile, an rather masculine lady who probably took solace in being the homecoming runner up to queen in the 1982 homecoming dance satirically said "wow, I wish we got those macbook airs in" while she blatantly winked at my no-sales rep.
*edit*-how could I forget? After seeing the possiblity of afternoon store deliveries, I call around 6pm and was told they were in stock! I said "ok, can I leave my CC number to hold it, I'll be in within an hour to pick it up". He said he'd have to check with his manager. He then of course came back on the phone and overly apologized as he said they don't have them in stock.

Eh, whatever-they told me to try again the next day.

I go in, and now they have three display models! Not only that, but the one that was on display magically disappeared! How do I know? I checked the system profiler. On Friday, the one on display was a 1.6/80gig. On friday there's magically three SSD macbook airs!

I walked up to the guy and said, "did you get a shipment in"?
He plainly looked me in the eye and said "sorry, we only got these display units in".
I said "oh really? Because yesterday you only had one 1.6/80, and the salesman said you only got one, now that specific computer has disappeared and you've got 3 SSD Airs".

He quickly walked away from me and immediately went to the 1982 almost homecoming queen who recognized my handsomeness and waved. Her smile quickly turned to a crow's feet frown as the clerk obviously relayed my inquisitiveness. They both promptly disappeared in the back, never to be seen from again. After waiting around for about 15 minutes I realized I was tired of their shenanigans and had some lunch, then went to best buy and debated getting a vaio or similar to put linux in.

I probably won't buy an linux option, apple will probably get my over $2200 once I buy the secondary computer, accessories, and software-but its really leaving a bitter taste towards the retail stores.

Yes, listed as back-ordered, ship in one to two weeks. To be honest, I'm not sure Apple hooking up with Best Buy is a positive, except maybe to Apple's bottom line. Their customer service leaves something to be desired, at least in my area.

It would truly be nice if they all would get the same memo and stick with the SAME story. Maybe then customers wouldn't think they're lying.

Or how about something as simple as this?

-Yes, we're so sorry to disappoint you, but inclimate weather at key distribution points have delayed shipments across the world. Any random macbook airs that are being sold are due to the confusion of our unexpectedly rescheduled release date. If you go to apple.com on Monday or Tuesday they will have an update on what the new release date will be.

A ounce of honesty is worth a pound of lies.

I think they got taken totally off guard and are handling it poorly as you suggest. Looks like the retail premier w. available sales was going to happen this past Friday and got cancelled last minute with pre-order fulfillment issues and now only retail demo units are showing. The way they reply to questions makes me think it was supposed to happen and got delayed and they don't really know what to do until hqrtrs. tells them. The lucky ones to get a unit seem to have been sold by employees that thought the retail premier was still on.

The MacArthur Mall in Norfolk, VA has both the HD and SSD MBAs on display. I didn't ask if they had them for sale though as I just wanted to check them out.

I've been calling the Mall of Georgia all week, and was told anyday. This afternoon I was told it would faster to order on-line than wait for the store to stock. Probably BS.

totally. the most pessimistic people are saying wednesday and there's no way your going to get it from the online store by then. most people who ordered the 16th still haven't gotten shipment notices.

I'm getting more 1-2 week responses from the Georgia stores. Also more recommendations of going online.

I think they are tired of getting repeated phones calls, and are saying order on-line to get them off of their backs.
