Just an amazon order after the keynote.

I've been on the retail route since this past Monday! I've had personal shopper appointments each day, been to all the stores, dozens of phone calls a day.
Of course I miss the three units they sold at Lenox this morning...

Ah...yes-I thought I was right! We both have orders at Amazon...and Apple...can't say we aren't trying...LOL!

Sorry you missed the boat at Lenox-been there many times (I'm in Savannah). Used to be the closest Apple store to here until they opened the one in Jacksonville a couple of years ago-of course, they just have a couple of demo's...the running theme.

LOL. They only had the 1.6/HD version, but I bet I would have bought it lol. I would have liked a phone call about them when they told me a no and canceled my personal shopper appointment last night. Other store I had an appointment for this morning said she would call me in the morning, she did, but they didn't get any. Too bad Lenox didn't do that if they weren't sure last night.

The store in Clarendon VA has demo units. They have SSD and HD versions on display.

But none for sale. the employees said in the coming week but they weren't definite.

When i was there, a total douchebag came in and started playing with the machine. He said OSXlooked like Vista because the icons on the dock didn't expand when he moved the mouse over it. Total idiot.

No kiddin'...guess you tried all the Apple stores in the area, no doubt. I think there are four...? Wish they would send one down here!

I've been spending time lurking on this thread in between phone calls to Apple stores and actual visits to the stores.

Does anyone remember someone actually being told on the phone that they have MBAs and then managing to get one?

It seems like phone=no and visit=slight chance.

Yup, 4. I would think we'd have atleast somebody selling one SSD unit or something.

SF bay area stores?

been away but just caught up on this thread. i agree. seems like employees may be aggravated and say no when you call just b/c they have such a limited supply and don't want to piss anyone off if they come in and they're out. guessing you've got a better chance if you just go in.

on that note, anyone have any luck in the bay area recently??

i just got back from stonestown mall store and the girl had no idea about supplies. she asked someone in back and he made it sound like they never had any to begin with. sigh.

kicking myself for not ordering after i demo'd one at macworld.

I had a personal shopper appointment on Friday morning. I called them and they said they will have them on display and for sale at 10am. I get in the car and drive there with my wife and two kids, the store opens, and the guy who was working there gave me a dirty look when I asked for a MacBook Air 1.6/80GB. He stated there was ones only for demo, no units to sell. Which is ridiculous, what's the point of having them there if you cant sell them? I tried out a 1.8/SSD which was nice but I was not that impressed even with that one.

I go home and go to work which I had to work later because of the perosnal shopper appointment. While at work I called another store and they stated they had them for sale. I said I can walk out of there with one right now if I walked in right this second and the girl on the phone said yea.

My wife takes the kids and goes ALL the way BACK to the SAME Apple store and she gets there and the kid tells her that they dont have them. Obviously she wasnt very pleased.

After I got out of work I went to the Apple store. I tested out the MacBook Air's again and then decided to look at the MacBook Pro. Needless to say I am typing on that MacBook Pro right now and since Apple decided to take their sweet time I decided to get this machine.
:)

Were you the girl who hung out in the theatre? I hung out in store from opening today until 1:30pm to no avail as they didn't get any shipment.

Consider yourself lucky.

Just got back from the store. I left with the first MBA sold today. (got the superdrive too) They only had two of the base model in stock. Second was sold while I was being rung up from the sales guy's pocketpc register.

This is precisely the BS we shouldn't have to put up with.

Apple-straighten out your reps! Tell them what is going on with NO BS! And LET THEM TELL US WHAT IS GOING ON!

Why do you insist on screwing with paying customers?

I'm the biggest Apple fanboy there is, but I'm really at the end of my rope. I don't think I'm alone here.

I'm this close to telling Apple to take it's precious MBA and stick it down their lying throat.

Indianapolis Store

I put my hands on the 1.8 SSD today. It was weird going to System Profiler and to Serial-ATA and there was none found. I had to wait for 2 people to step away before I got to touch it.
It was nice but I still love my MacBook.

I just broke down and ordered one online...1.8/64 ssd. didn't want to deal with the retail bullsh*t

Done chasing my tail

I agree, got tired of all the bull from the Apple stores and ordered online. 1.8 64ssd
Who knows when they will get them in. Apple did a ****** job with there training of store employees on the release of Air.

'Tis 10:40PM Saturday night in Phoenix, Arizona. I went by two of the local Apple stores today and both had a few Macbook Air Superdrives for sale and a couple of the 45 watt MBA power bricks. In both stores, there were two MBA 1.6 HDD units and one MBA 1.8 SDD unit on the demo table. Neither store's employees were sure when they would have MBAs of any configuration in stock. I took advantage of one store's stock and purchased a MBA Superdrive. When I got home, I cancelled that item on my open order (which still had a 22 Feb ship date). Going to the FedEx website a few minutes ago, I saw my unit was now in the tender clutches of our favorite original overnight delivery service. It appears the unit was picked up around 6:10PM China time on 2 Feb, which was after the FedEx cutoff time. That seems to be the normal procedure over there as that is the pattern I have seen on multiple custom built laptops and and a custom built iMac.

Tomorrow morning I should expect to see that the shipment progressed to Anchorage, AK and will be possibly enroute to Indianapolis to clear customs. I might even have a finite delivery date as well. :D

I thought from my hands on experience of the speed of the 1.8 SSD that it was on a par or quicker than my 17" MPPro @ 2.33Ghz, 3 Gb of ram and a 5400 rpm drive. Of course all one could do was load programs and webpages. The OS and support files left about 37.5Gb of free space on the SSD. That is enough room for a stripped down Vmware Fusion WinXP system for a couple of Garmin mapping programs and iWork. 08 which I have elected to be my office suite due to the bloated nature of Redmond's products. The SSD unit will ride well in a motorcycle on cross country trips and the USB Verizon wireless will provide country wide connections where Wi-Fi or ethernet is missing. I am looking forward to this addition to my laptop inventory. :apple:

Someone needs to fire off an angry email to Steve J and see what kind of response they get. This all sounds like a bunch of crap to me. Crappy customer service and something I dont think he would stand for. Would not hurt.

I bet it'll get out sooner than that though. when were yours?

Same here. I think I posted in another thread that I bet when Apple makes a statement on the weather in China / delay everything will adjust to prepare for retail launch

Gettin one monday morning

I was searching on apples 3rd party retailers and got many answers calling some of them. This place called Samy's camera had a shipment they said coming monday or tuesday. They confirmed monday morning I just chilled and then later today. I was careless but still made it to pre order one of the last 2 macbook airs 1.8 64 ssd. So now i will have one monday morning! :) When i was calling around I also got answers that mac enthusiasts and other stores will receive their first shipments wednesday, but I'm pretty sure after monday-wednesday, they'll be all situated.

As I posted in another thread, Cherry Creek Mall Apple Store has them (Denver, CO).

They have four on display. But they said they had none in stock. One employee said they did have some in stock on Friday but sold them. I'm not sure if the other Colorado stores have them.

I understand your frustration about the way the stores are going about things involving the MBA but what the hell is the emergency that you have to have it NOW? The AIR was just intro'd 2 weeks ago, it's not like we have to wait months. Think about it dude, all these people including you who are going into labor over the fact the Apple stores don't seem to want to POS the AIR's right away lose sight of one thing, Apple makes no money holding onto merchandise. They obviously have their reasons for not releasing them just yet.

I don't know what your needs are but I have Time Capsule on order and it's not being shipped until March and I need to back my stuff up now. At least the AIR is available after 2 weeks of introduction, be patient for goodness sake.:p
Wow, the MR forum members seem to have hated the AIR after it's intro but now that it's in the stores there's an emergency to have your new toy.

so

Does anyone have Steve's email address? Dumb question I think but thought that i would ask. This way, many of us have the chance to take it to the source. I would focus on the lame customer experience from the apple stores and not the availability.

Oh one more thing

One apple store employee said the stores are only going to carry the $1799 model and the $3098 model. The processor upgrade will only be sold online, the employee said.

The Aspen Grove Store in Littleton also had them on display - I'm not sure if they had any in stock or sold any yet, though.

I think that people are GROSSLY underestimating the difference between the solid state and platter hard drives. I played with both of them - the difference was remarkable.

The 1.8" hard drive model hesitated often - even when I clicked the 'Apple' logo in the upper left hand corner to click 'About This Mac.' The solid state model loaded every app with a bounce or less - it FLEW.

If you're just using the basic web/word processing functionality of the computer, the 1.8" hard drive model is probably fine - but I really, really couldn't imagine NOT buying the solid state model after my trial run this morning!

This is typical of all of Apple's computer lines. They have a few models - a basic, regular, and premium line - in store. Upgrades - especially hard drive or processor - are sold online, while RAM upgrades can be done in store.
