It's Here and I'm probably going to get any sleep...

I worked all night (night shift) last night, got 3 hours of sleep and the MacBook Air showed up at 11:13 AM PDT.

I am stoked, my first impressions are posted here:
http://groups.google.com/group/mac-book-air/browse_thread/thread/d398df388b730bc3

I'm am very happy, it is a very nice laptop. No rocking or warping, perfect screen, can barely hear the fan, not running hot at all (despite doing a clean install pretty much right out of the box).

BTW, stock install of OS X and bundled applications works out to 17.39 GB used space. We'll see how much space the clean install gets me. I'll post the info at the above Google Group and here when I can, including how migrating files over goes.

Hope you folks all get yours really soon, this thing is really sweet.

Dave

I ordered through the Edu store as well...

I sympathize with all the Edu Store folks. Used to do everything through the Edu Store (K-12) at my old job, and no matter *how* soon after say, a keynote or announcement, the Edu orders always seemed like they were put behind *everyone* else. Oy.

Well, I gave up! I cancelled my order because I can't stand waiting around for my Air to ship towards the end of Feb. Instead I called the Woodfield store (Chicago suburb) and they had one and only one 1.8/SSD but they would not hold it for me. I broke every speed limit, ran red lights, forced 3 cars and one semi off the road - but I got it! Sweet little thing it is!

My Ship date is Feb 2 and Estimated delivery was Feb 6 by 10:30 AM
But it delivered early. :-(

Now, I need to go to FedEx local distribution center to pick it up,
since I can not wait until their 2nd try on delivery. :)

How much space did you regain doing the clean install? I'm thinking of doing one but am trying several things on my own to see how much I can regain without a clean install. Running monolingual and keeping about 6 languages gave me 2GB.

I saved almost 3Gb knocking out the extra languages, print drivers, and ditching iMovie (I mean what's the purpose of it without optical drive!)

Classy ? True. I'm so gonna cry :p

Was the "macintosh + Mathematica = infinity" written on purpose ?

That's a 1988 Apple poster, it's Einstein and Mathematica, i think it's when it first came out.. oh those collectables.. I have about 24 think different posters from the 1998 campaign.

Anyhow, I had some fan noise from mine, when I was doing the fresh install, almost as loud as the iMac fan when running high. Only ran for about 4 minutes, then went away, haven't heard it back yet....

It is it is!!!!

Anyone trying to plug in 2 USB devices at a time yet????? Gotta figure out how to do my iphone and usb external portable hd at the same time. Was suggested that only a powered USB hub would work. Was wondering if anyone else had tried it.

Poor fedex guy, he must have been thinking you're crazy.

The Macbook actually looks thinner and smaller than the air in your photo.

I was playing around and carrying my MacBook Air around the house when my wife wanted to use it. So I went and picked up my MacBook pro to use. That I was gonna get a hernia from lifting it:)
