i have two on order, one for my dad in california that is complete factory (1.6) and that was upgraded to 2-3day as well, not overnight and she said it was also coming from china.
as for mine, it was custom ordered with 1.8ghz 80gb, and i live in nyc. upgraded to 2-3 day.
DANG IT. I WANT IT ALREADY. haha
I just got off the phone will Apple. The first support rep stated that she couldn't change my 2-3 day shipping to overnight. The second rep gladly told me that she changed it. To confirm, I called a third rep who said I was credited $18 for the 2-3 day shipping but no change had been made because the product is shipping from China to the U.S.
Question - in my order details, my Macbook Air says that is a CTO Custom Configuration. I ordered the 1.8ghz, 64gb SSD, with a superdrive, ethernet adapter, and Applecare, nothing else. None of the reps could explain why my order was CTO. My best guess is because I ordered it through Education, but do any of you guys have any ideas? Also, a reason for not being able to get the Overnight shipping may be because mine is CTO and coming from China?

The CTO reflects the addition of the superdrive, ethernet adapter and Applecare. Anything that is not strictly the computer turns the order into a CTO.
I've got the same problem. By adding the remote and the ethernet adapter, it turned my order into a CTO. Oh well...
Yeah, I bet the iPhone is also near the top of the best seller list on the German Apple store.

Just called Apple again, Mine 1.6/80 will be shipped from China....and overnighted, they said that changing the shipping will not delay your order at all ......she did not say much more then that...... I was hoping they were in the states
I believe all apples are shipped from shanghai where they're made...
they do get here quick though once they get to alaska they are usually at your door within a matter of hours

My 2.2 macbook came from Tenn, I was suprised at that, I ordered the minute it was announced

Rumors about hot products like this are very attractive to cite as it insures a lot of ad impressions, and hence $$$. Editors of these blogs couldn't care less if it is true or not.

hmmm... I believe the tracking probably only started from tenn for some reason... Memphis is a MAJOR fedex hub so it usually goes shanghai, alaska, tenn, your house

That is because the iPhone isn´t sold via the Apple Store here in Germany. It is only availbale through T-Mobile...

Except that it's Fedex delivering it, so it would sit in the warehouse for the requisite time period to make sure that you don't, you know, get anything you didn't pay for.
It would be a total pisser if we had to wait all the way until next week. I don't see how you can do work in the computer lab. I sold my computer, too, but I'm not giving it up until I get my MBA and Time Capsule.
So now it really appears as though the pre-order people are screwed... can't wait to go pick mine up at the 5th Ave store after work tomorrow while the rest of you who gave me crap about cancelling are hitting refresh on either a FedEx site (if you're lucky) or the Apple Store (if you're not).
