This has been an issue for over a year now. It's a well known issue with no response from Apple. I'm beginning to think it's a bluetooth chip issue as many windows machines have the same issues.

Has anyone used the dongle for wireless keyboard or mouse? Some Logitech keyboard and mouse can use either BT or their wireless dongles.

I am not sure it is a chipset issue. My MacPro 6,1 (aka Trashcan) had no issues with BT until I updated the OS to Catalina. The problem persisted with Big Sur. But I updated the Magic Keyboard to Magic Keyboard 2 and the problem finally went away.

I'm also having issues with my mouse "stuttering" when connected via Bluetooth. M1 Mac Mini. Logitech MX Master 3. If I use my Logitech M570 with the USB RF receiver instead it works without issue.

I also am having occasional issues with Apple Watch unlock, e.g. "wireless connection too weak for Apple Watch to unlock this Mac"
seems all to be sorted in Beta 11.1 ... had the issues .. all history now :)

swapped off 5G wifi, lets see what this brings...

edit: welp, not even 5 mins in and lost a connection from my mouse already lol
I don't know anymore, these issues seem to be just getting worse. The 5G wifi dropping more and more frequently. Hard decision, but I am now contemplating returning my MBP and getting MBA as a device used only for portable work. Will wait for 11.1 and see hopefully comes out before return period.

Not for me. I'm on 11.1 RC and I'm still getting the audio cut-outs, same frequency as before, no improvement. Back to the 2.4GHz network for me I guess.

Anyone having the problems on a 16 GB M1 mini?

A friend had dreadful Bluetooth problems with the 8GB. He just returned and replaced for a 16 GB M1 Mini and the issue has so far gone away. All his connections and peripherals remain the same.

If that ends up being the problem... how would I go about exchanging my 8GB version for a 16GB? I bought the 8GB in-store. I thought about just ordering a 16GB online, because they don't carry them in-store, but the 16GB wouldn't arrive until January 4th at this point and that is dangerously close to the January 8th return deadline. Could be made worse if things get locked down again.

If I call Apple with they process an exchange whereby they send me a 16GB model, charge me for it, and allow me to ship back the 8GB model when the new one arrives?

He had to order the 16GB separately, then return the 8GB. The order did come through about one week before the estimated delivery day through (that was in the States).

Another update: got a HomePod Mini today, have it on my desk, and the Mac mini keyboard and trackpad have both become completely unusable. Dropping in and out every few seconds. Moving the Mac away from the monitor and the HomePod helps a little bit. Again, this might indicate a wifi interference problems, as HomePod going through AirPlay not bluetooth.

It's so bad.

Current solution has been to get an under the desk mount off Amazon. And mount the mini under the front of the desk. Near the keyboard and trackpad, while away from the monitor and HomePod, to avoid Interference. So far, it’s holding up.

I began encountering bluetooth issues with my mini 16/512 and Magic Trackpad 2 shortly after I made a change to my router, which in turn was causing the router to re-boot quite often. In retrospect, it seems the bluetooth issues (stuttering mouse movement, disconnects followed by immediate re-connects) arose when the mini and various iOS devices nearby were re-acquiring their WiFi connections after each router re-boot, typically on the 2.4GHz side (they're supposed to go to 5GHz but can be slow to do so). With the router re-configured to avoid the re-boots, the issue has disappeared again. So, yeah, perhaps a WiFi issue. FWIW, the mini is connected to the network via ethernet.

I also have bluetooth issues with both my M1 Mini and M1 MacBook Air. I use the original apple Magic Mouse and keyboard with batteries and the mouse looses connection and freezes, the keyboard will repeat keys or freeze also. Havent tried them with my Air but I do have audio drop out on my AirPod Pros.

anyone having BT issues with their new machines, more specifically with the apple mouse? it keeps disconnecting

Moderator Note:

Also see the discussion in the news thread:

I bought a MacBook Pro M1 recently. BT sporadically cuts for a second or so when connected to my Denon speaker and Sennheiser headphone. Not tried the Apple mouse yet.

One incident I've been able to replicate is that when I leave my Mac mini idol and the screen locks and I come back to it that's when there is often no response from the keyboard. And I have to click around with my mouse to go in or out of the log in screen and sometimes I get back in. This makes me suspect that it is some kind of software issue rather than hardware issue. Also, I do have instances where the keyboard just doesn't recognise some keypresses it works fine but I mean because of the signal or is slow to receive my input and then the inputted key comes on screen with a slight delay.

I'm genuinely thinking of just sending this back and either getting a MacBook Air or holding out for the rumoured 14" MacBook Pro but that could be a six month wait. I'll have to think about it.

I've been contemplating the purchase of the new AirPodMax headphones, but with BT so iffy on M1 Macs (I have a MacMini). I think I'd be very disappointed if they didn't work. Oh, well if I ordered them now maybe Apple will have it sorted out by the time I'd get them.

In the meantime I'm avoiding BT on my M1 MacMini by using Logitech dongle/reciever for the the MX keyboard and MX 3 Mac mouse. I'm also using cabled headphones to an Audiquest DragonFly Red USB-A via my Dell USB-C monitor's USB port.

Finally, I don't know how Apple couldn't have found and fixed the BT before releasing the M1 computers.

Having exactly the same issue here with Apple magic keyboard and magic mouse. Most of the times, I'm unable to wake the Mac Mini from sleep unless I plug in a wired keyboard and/or mouse to initiate the wake up. Then, it still takes up to minutes until a BT connection is running again.

I haven't had any issues with BT before a few minutes ago. I am using Apple Magic Keyboard/Mouse (prev gen) and have a USB 3 hub connected to the second USB A port of the Mini. I just tried connecting the DisplayLink adapter to the first USB A port on the Mini and the mouse started to behave erratically. The problem disappeared as soon as I disconnected the adapter from that port and connected it to the hub instead. So I can confirm what others have said, that the bluetooth issues are more likely to occur if you connect something to the first USB A port of the Mini.

When looking at the back of the machine are you considering the left port (closest to the other I/O) or the right port (closest to the edge of the mini) the first port?

Thanks for confirming. I've disconnected the USB-A device from the right port and my MX Master 3 still stutters a bit when connected via Bluetooth, though perhaps not as bad as before.

I guess it depends on the devices too. I use the Apple Magic KB/Mouse and they work find with nothing connected to that port.
