Hi everyone!

Just got off the phone with Apple Support and was told that they're aware of the issue and it is software related.

The current workaround is to turn FileVault off, as it is "jamming up the Bluetooth I/O".

I've only just done this myself so not sure if this has solved the problem, but thought I'd let everyone know.

One thing worth noting, Apple Support mentioned that my vote on the issue for priority on a fix was added to the list, so if you are having this issue too it'd be worth giving Apple a call to get your vote in (obviously pretty frustrating this isn't a top priority anyway).

In the meantime hopefully we have a workaround to this issue.

I'll post an update if my Magic Mouse disconnects again.

its good that apple acknowledged the problem, my filevault has always been off and these issues still occur...

That's irritating ? As soon as the issue re-occurs for me then I'll be giving them a call back ?

Edit: Already had the issue, time to call Apple back.

Edit 2: So after speaking with somebody on the Apple Senior Technical Support Team (wow, that's a mouthful) it seems like their support teams at least are completely unaware of this issue and disabling FileVault is there goto workaround for bluetooth issues and now I've been asked to try Safe Mode.

Did you mention to them that completely turning off WiFi fixes the problem? Or that it works fine with 2.4ghz wifi networks but not 5ghz?

In my case it doesn't (at least turning Wi-Fi off). I currently have Wi-Fi, Handoff and FileVault turned off now and have still had a couple disconnects occur.

I did mention other peoples experiences though and what I've tried based on findings and all three people I've spoken with so far didn't want to know, basically all stating they could have different issues to mine.

Thanks for your tenacity in going after this with Apple support! In my case, the issue is so intermittent that there's no way I'd be able to replicate the issue while I was on the phone with them. In my case however (AirPods cutting out/stuttering) the problem completely goes away when I switch to 2.4ghz. I did provide feedback via the feedback site, not sure how effective that is. Really hoping Apple comes out with a fix soon. They fixed the 12 Mini Lock Screen issues within the first week so I'm hopeful.

I'm having bluetooth issues with my M1 MacBook Pro. I posted about this on the Apple Community site and was contacted by Apple a few days later. They asked me to send them a number of diagnostic files (which I had to produce using terminal) so that they can investigate. I reckon that those high up (software engineers etc.) are aware of the reports and are currently investigating / working on an update (assuming this is a software problem). Apple support probably haven't received any official information from HQ yet and Apple will probably just quietly release a big fix as they don't want bad press!

OK, so I can make the audio dropouts go away completely by doing one of two things:
1 - turn off wifi
or
2 - switch the wifi network I use from 5g to 2.4g

Now I also noticed that if I switch to 2.4 and then back to 5g with the headphones connected, it then runs fine without any dropouts. So obviously this problem is tied to Wifi, and I imagine people who say their M1s that don't have a problem aren't using 5g WiFi networks.
Perhaps that is the case. My Zoom connection lags about 10min into a Zoom call on 5G using Powerbeats Pro with M1 MBP. At this time, no websites load either. I'm using 802.11ax/Wifi 6 router. I have Zoom meetings almost daily. I have to wait 2-3min then it stabilizes. It never happened first week of owning MBP. Then is started to be once every few calls. Now it's more often in that I can't even use it for important Zoom calls anymore. I use my windows desktop with Wifi 6 for Zoom, no issues last 6 months when connected with Powerbeats Pro. I never get these drop outs watching 4K videos online with M1 MBP, just Zoom. Not able to test on 2.4G as it's too slow.

Has anybody tried to change channel for the 5GHz band on their router?
It might be interference on the channel you're using currently.

No bluetooth issues here, though I don't have FileVault turned on yet. I haven't really been using my Magic Mouse with my Air, since I generally prefer the trackpad. The one small issue that I have it that it doesn't show the battery level for my Marshall headphones. It only shows the battery level for the Magic Mouse. That's really weird because my iPhone does show the battery level for these headphones, so there shouldn't be any reason why the M1 Mac can't.

For those who have issues with bluetooth, maybe you can try Magic Keyboard 2 or Magic Mouse 2. Ever since I updated my Mac Pro to Catalina, it had problems with bluetooth connections to my keyboard. I tried two different Magic Keyboards and the problem persisted. Then I tried Magic Keyboard 2 and the problem went away.

This is very Apple. They don't test compatibility with older devices from my experience.

I am so frustrated by these bluetooth issues that I've decided to return my M1 MacBook Pro and exchange it to rule out that it is a hardware issue. I'll let you know if the replacement also has problems!

Got a M1 mini and the latests apple keyboard and trackpad and it's unbearable. However, it's started since I've got a 32-inch 4K monitor. Didn't happen with my 27-inch HD monitor. Getting to the point where it's a choice between the monitor or the mini. Didn't happen with my M1 Air and the same keyboard and trackpad.

I'm also having issues with my mouse "stuttering" when connected via Bluetooth. M1 Mac Mini. Logitech MX Master 3. If I use my Logitech M570 with the USB RF receiver instead it works without issue.

I also am having occasional issues with Apple Watch unlock, e.g. "wireless connection too weak for Apple Watch to unlock this Mac"

Thought the exact same thing so bought a new Mouse 2 to replace my OG model and nope, still exists.

I just spent part of the morning on a call with a more senior apple support guy after it was escalated. He was aware that other users are reporting it.

The first step is to see if it replicates while using the computer in safe mode (which I'm going to do this morning). He seemed to think that the problem may lie with migration assistant vs clean install, and that migration assistant is bringing over stuff (caches, buried start up issues, library files and so on) that is causing the problem.

This may explain why some people are getting it and others are not.

Solution offered was:

1. SMC reset
2. Boot in safe mode
3. Play around in safe mode
4. If the issue clears in safe mode, then restart in normal, as safe mode can clear some stuff.
5. If issue doesn't clear in normal, but did in safe, then reinstall MacOS and clean install everything.
6. If this doesn't resolve then it will escalated further.

Anyone do a clean install of everything and still have the problem?

Unfortunately this hasnt solved BT issues for me, I dont use filevault on either m1 macbook and still have the problems..I also did clean fresh installs on both of my laptops, no migration assistant was used.
I have sound cutting out on both of my M1 Macbook Pros when using my airpods or my airpods pro. The solution I found was to switch my wifi to a 2.4g network, then back to my 5g network, while the bluetooth is still playing. It cuts out when it is switched back to 5g but then seems to be stable. I hope they get this figured out soon..

Unfortunately safe mode, nor a clean install has fixed anything on my end (at least after installing all of my apps again).

One thing I noticed yesterday though is that the disconnects were constant yesterday whilst working in a bunch of Rosetta 2 apps, has anyone tried or are using a pure ARM based installation of macOS (no Rosetta 2 apps)?

I have tried turning off the one intel architecture app I had running, got a cutout shortly after. I have found that location is a large factor in when I have cutouts. When I go into my shop with the laptop and have a youtube video playing, as soon as I place the laptop near the back wall of my workbench it starts to cutout way more often. This is going to be a hard problem to nail down
my info:
2 different macbook pro m1 machines, 8gb and 16gb ..both clean fresh installs without migration assistant
2 sets of airpods, pro and normal, sounds cutting out intermittently
big sur 11.0.1
not using filevault
using a 5G network with bandsteering on.
I just turned off bansteering and will see if this has any effect
