Starting at 5:24, the side by side comparisons of photos are clearly way more different than I'd have expected
Weird... that flower shot looks better on the previous gen, as the highlights aren't blown. Granted, that easily could be a function of the camera sensor taking the video, but as a professional colorist, it's odd to see. It's almost as if the top of the luma channel had been lifted in the photo on the iPad 2021.

Again, though, we're at the mercy of the sensor on the capture device.

One of the reviews made clear the extra RAM is already being used appropriately by keeping even apps that haven’t been used in hours available in RAM so they reload instantly right where you left off without reloading.

Not necessarily since iPadOS/iOS suspends background tasks and saves the state to storage then restores the state when brought back to foreground. One way to test if it's actively running in RAM in background is using something like a connected SSH/telnet client. Unlike other OS', on iPadOS/iOS it gets suspended then killed in background after a few minutes.

Interesting... my favorite tech reviewer for art applications found the new screen actually worse than the last generation for drawing. Apparently the glass is thicker, and the corners of the screen have falloff. To be fair, he did like the HDR videos he viewed, but that's not my main use case. Go to 3:55 for the rundown on the screen.

This is FASCINATING... one of my favorite youtubers as well, I wasn't expecting to hear his opinion of the new screen being so mixed like this. Something to take into consideration when shopping.

For some it might be worth going to the store and looking at these in person before buying.

So far I haven't found a review comparing it to the Tab S7+, but I guess for that we'll have to wait the other reviewers that did not received a unit on loan from Apple...

Here's one that reveals things like blooming around CC text. Hoping YouTube channels like HDTVTest and Stop the FOMO do a proper review since others like Justine, iMore, MKBHD, Jonathan Morrison, etc. are drunk on cool-aid rubbish.

Disappointed that Center Stage does not fix the problem of video conferencing in landscape mode (which is the mode my iPad is in 100% of the time since I use a keyboard cover).

I usually do video conferencing in docked mode on my MBP, so my iPad video conferencing experience is rather limited. Is portrait mode for conferencing that bad? Does it prevent multi-tasking?

Just curious. I certainly get the appeal of wanting a clean landscape set up.

It just means I would have to have a separate set up just for video conferencing. I would need a dock or something else to prop it up in portrait mode since the keyboard folio and magic keyboard don't do that orientation. My iPad stays on my desk in landscape mode in the smart keyboard folio (it's a 2018) 100% of the time and I love it, but I just don't ever use it for video conferencing because I always look like I'm looking off to the side. Practically speaking, until the camera position moves, I'm never going to use the iPad for Facetime or Zoom because of this issue.

Mini LED seems like a nice improvement but still really wish Apple went OLED. not only would there be no blooming but it’d be much easier to give both 11 + 12.9 an OLED. It sucks if you want Mini LED but don’t want 12.9 screen cause then you’re paying for two things when you only want one. But i guess that’s Apple’s strategy…. Same as the RAM situation. You want 16GB? You also need to pay for 1TB storage even if you don’t need it.

my perfect iPad would be an 11” Mini LED/OLED with 16GB RAM and 256GB but it’s somehow impossible… so 11” LCD with 8GB and 256GB it is.

It's exactly as predicted... every mainstream reviewer was to report that yes, it's stupid fast, yes the screen is incredible... but with all this, the OS is holding it back.

The end.

We've known what the reviews were going to show for weeks now.
And, nice as they can be about iPads limitations. Nothing new there.

Exactly. It was clear from day 1 that all eyes would be on WWDC and that hasn't changed one bit.
Indeed. Interesting tidbit from MKBHD... he still uses the 2018 11" iPad Pro. And I like how most of these reviewers are pointing out the obvious, which is iPadOS is holding back 2021 iPad Pros. Hopefully, that drives Apple in some form to give us something huge for the 2021 iPad Pros.

But then again... iPadOS 15 features are already in place, WWDC is only about 2 weeks away. I understand betas will help in resoving bugs. But as far as software features... I'm sure Apple has them set.

Dieter says it's likely related to the Kindle app.

Dieter is drunk on cool-aid. Some apps use gray as a background vs black but no app simulates blooming around text.

Curious how dimming zones handle dark-theme white-text scrolling on black-background. Are the dimming zones fast enough to keep up with scrolling text without turning into a schizo flashing light show or do they all turn on at a certain level. Could use something like this to test.

The uploader has clearly mentioned in the comments that the bloom effect in real life was not even 10% of what the camera was seeing. When watching side by side, both screens were more or less the same in terms of contrast but mini led has better color accuracy, less flickering and no amoled issues.

This guy uses his iPad Pro as his main computer. In fact his channel is basically ipad focused. Recommend it for people who want to see someone who puts it to good use

Yeah, I really like Chris's reviews on iPads ( and it's apps ! ). Def. recommend him over the likes of MKBHD, Rene, Dave2D etc for this product!

I've had a ton of Amoled screens in the Android world, including some of the "premium" screens and do like the contrast, and I know I'd like the contrast here with the 12.9 iPad Pro as well, but I really dislike visible dimming zones.

Could that be a feature? It reminds me of what Microsoft did with fonts in Windows XP where adding a bit of soft white light makes it far less straining on the eyes with "ClearType".

Yeah whatever Apple is doing for iPadOS 15 is already baked at this point. I am convinced they are delivering some major changes and have been doing a good job holding back on it. They created such a massive hole by releasing these iPads with straight line spec matchups with their latest Macs. It will be a brutal wait until WWDC to see where this lands and if Apple hits a home run or laughs at us again.

Rubbish comparison since nothing is displayed so dimming zones are off. Display a small white dot and see how big or small the blooming/halo is.
That‘s the point - to compare how each iPad handles pure black. And it’s patently obvious the 12.9 miniLED does it far better. You OLED fanatics really need a club or support group or something. Having some other image aspects on screen at the same time wouldn’t impact the black areas since they have different dimming zones anyway.

Ah no, when it comes to pure blacks mini led isn’t even in the same league as oled
