Mac Mini M1 doesn't seem to like ANY audio interfaces. I've tried Thunderbolt (through adapter) Focusrite Clarett and USB Roland Studio-Capture. These are High-End units. Now they're useless because of Mac Mini. It's gotta go.
Yep, M1 is nigh on useless for audio right now, unless you're only using Logic and first party plugins from Logic. My Apogee Duet's companion software doesn't recognise it. I've also had misc. 'Audio unit error' when running third party plugs in Logic. It's really powerful but between Big Sur and the new chip there is no way I'd recommend this right now for professional work or anything where you need reliability. I also do online streaming professionally and NDI doesn't work, which is essential for my workflow in Wirecast.

I'm actually going to return my Mac Mini because there's just too much that doesn't function well yet. I actually did a full live stream with multiple cameras on my 15" 2012 macbook pro last night, which used QuickSync to encode multiple h.264 streams really efficiently and barely dropped many frames over an hour and a half. It's also got everything running on it that I need.

I know that it's not a surprise that a lot of professional software isn't functioning, but Rosetta 2 isn't a magic wand for a lot of stuff, despite what these surface level/early reviews show. I'm very excited about the future but absolutely not gonna wait around with the state of things at the moment

Yeah, even I feel scrolling is a bit jittery on my new M1 MBA, especially when the scroll comes to an end. On my 2018 iPad Pro, the same website is super smooth.
Everything else is super fast on M1 MBA but this scrolling thing is getting on my nerves. I use Chrome, not Safari.

Probably time to call Apple. But if you want to try something else first, try playing music another way, such as using Youtube on a Safari page.
Good idea. Thanks! I'm actually not sure if I noticed it while playing YouTube videos.

If you get obsessive about having a clean screen it will. Rub hard and fast in cleaning and you can take the coatings off any screen.
I can attest to that: had a small spot in the middle of my own MBP retina some years ago. I used one of the Apple black cloths that used to come with every MBP, and rubbed just a bit too hard or too long it seems.
Result:
- dull spot around the stain
- stain itself still there, now more visible than ever before

As it was smack in the middle of the screen and impossible to unsee once you've seen it. I took it to Apple and fessed up I rubbed too hard with one of their microfiber cloths. I was fully expecting to get a serious invoice for replacing the retina screen. But they gave me a replacement screen for free -outside of warranty-, probably because I used one of their cloths I guess (as they asked more details on just how I caused the damage) ...

Lessons learned:
- Only use Apple cloth to clean your screen
- Clean as soon as possible so dirt on it doesn't get a chance to stick too hard to the display
- Don't rub too hard or too long in one spot: you'll damage the coating badly

I do think the later machines have a far more resistant coating though (this was a first gen retina)

Since then I saw some less prominent damage to the screen coatings on laptops issued to employees: mostly around the very edge and/or the camera. As far as I can tell form those machines and feedback from the users most of that can be linked back to two things people do:
- Use window cleaning fluid on the screen (I guess a bit too much - it eats at the coating near the edges of some of the screens)
- Put a sticker/tape/... over the camera (the federal police out here regularly advises people to do that - windows-centric as they are). The glue of even a mere post-it seems to affect the coating over time as far as I can tell.

If you do need cleaning fluid: at the most make a microfiber cloth a tiny bit humid away from the computer, make sure you cannot squeeze any drop out of it and then wipe with that over the screen. Never spray onto the screen itself: you'll have way too much on it and it'll go in places it should not go.

For the rest keep those fingers away from that screen and sneeze in your elbow.

I have to replug my mouse and keyboard and usb thetering sometimes as they disconect from the computer. I think its only happening after the computer goes to sleep, I got a mac mini with and external 6 port wall power usb 3.0 hub.

Sometimes in the loading screen , If i click like nowhere, I can make a bug line with two little white spot on the screen.

I'm hoping a Big Sur 11.0.1 issue, but so many games that should support controller do not. I know the controller works in some games, but no in others. For example, Batman Arkham City is fine - controller/rumble. Dying light, no dice, no controller recognized in the game. Hades is the same - just doesn't see the controller. Borderlands 2 - works great. Not sure why this is happening - a Rosetta thing? Just a Big Sur bug?

Also - really really really hope that 11.1 fixes not being able to go full screen on an iPad app - have a few apps I side loaded that work perfect, but are not usable because the interface is so small!

Just happen, all Component from the Anker USB 3.0 device drop. Never happen on Windows.

My setup - 4 screen , 2 on the mac 2 on a Dell hub
1 anker usb 3.0 hub with 6 port. Keyboard , mouse , External sound card and USB thetering phone on it

I tought it was when the computer come from sleep mode but Now i know that its just random crash. The way get my component back is that I have to unplug and replug them in the anker hub. Next time it happen , I will unplug and replug the HuB from the mac mini instead to test.

My MBA M1 is indexing in spotlight after each reboot it and powering it on. Not sure if it's normal or a bug in Big Sur.

Having it index for a few minutes after a reboot is normal. If it doesn’t stop after a day or so is a problem.

Just missed this thread before posting my own; some pretty serious weirdness with external displays

It seems like I have the same/similar issue on my Mac mini (M1); however no ghosting/shine-through that I have noticed. To me it appears with certain combinations of graphics. And with the Music app it can go bananas, especially when selecting certain albums in Recently Added with the menu bar flickering like crazy and the dock disappearing. The display is a brand new 4K LG monitor and it happens on both HDMI and USB-C to DisplayPort. I get a feeling this is related to software - Big Smurf. Ehrr. Big Sur.

Put my M1 MacBook Pro to sleep by closing the lid, had 24% battery left, open the lid 5 minutes later down to 19%, restart the Mac, back to 24%.

Happened more than once.

Hmmmm, bug or dodgy battery?

System report battery says everything is normal.

Doubt it’s a dodgy battery, 11 days since last fully charged to 100%, light safari usage, 7 hours actual usage hmmm.

Thanks for posting. This looks fairly similar to the vertical lines I had. Interesting to know it happens on a modern, presumably perfect-functioning display.

My M1 display glitch has been one of the trickier computer problems I’ve ever debugged!

So my 8/8 16Gb 512Gb MBA arrived on Monday and was an astonishingly capable and bug-free machine until this morning ...

1) Google Drive crashed and won't work reinstall (other M1 owners experiencing a lot of trouble with GD)
2) Dashlane crashes as soon as I launch it, so I'm having to use the web app
3) Safari crashes too

So that's 1hr lost already this morning. First world problems and to be expected in some ways, but not what I need if things remain this way.

Had my base model M1 MacBook Pro since launch day, no major issues so far, ESPN website locks up here and there when trying to play a video, battery life doesn’t seem as good as day one, maybe my usage pattern has changed.

So far really enjoying this M1 beast.

Fully charged on the 29th of November, light safari usage, finally put it on charge 11 days later, still had 16% percent left.

What’s also really impressive haven’t felt the machine get hot this whole time, cool as a cucumber, also the fan hasn’t turned on at all.

try restoring it, if still having issues you might a lemon, return it to apple for a new MacBook.

Nah, I reckon the above will work out fine in time. GDrive not working is the biggest issue but I can't imagine Google screwing this up for much longer.

Overall the device is incredible. I just need to figure out some workarounds and show some patience. If these - and other - bugs develop and worsen over time then I may well hand it back. Feeling positive though and it's already impressed me more than the 16" behemoth I bought a year go.

I have recently bought two MacBook Air (M1) machines. I managed to transfer a user from an old MacBook Air running Catalina to one of the new machines just fine. But after attempting to transfer a user from an old MacBook running Mojave to the other, it is now 'bricked'. Following the advise of Apple Support, I have attempted to 'revive' the bricked machine, using Apple Configurator 2 (ver. 2.13.3) running on the working MacBook Air (M1) and a USB-c charge cable (the cable that comes with the machine) connected to the bricked one. But only to see that the process failed at the last stage, with a number of different error codes, for which Apple Support apparently had no documentation. The second MacBook Air (M1) is now declared DOA by Apple Support and will be replaced with a new one by the shop where I bought it.

I take two lessons from this experience:
1) This product is not really ready to be marketed yet, as Apple Support lack proper documentation for it.
2) Do NOT attempt to transfer user data from any machine running a pre Catalina system, as it may kill your new machine.

I have been using Apple computers, for my work in broadcast TV, for many year (since before the PowerPC) and have transitioned through many generations of hardware, but never before have I seen anything as catastrophic as this. The one machine that works goes through the editing and rendering in Final Cut like a hot knife through butter and works just fine. But the lack of propper support documentation is unforgivable and the potential to out right brick the machine, simply by following recommended procedure, for transferring user data form old hardware, is not going to win Apple many new fans.

Potential is clearly there but I would recommend anyone, who is depending on Apples hardware for their work, to hold on and wait for the .1 revision, before jumping on to the new generation of Apple M1 hardware.
