Today I opened some libraries with finalcut 10.5.1. and Apple M1.
Unfortunately a lot of plugins (pixel (autotracker, surfacetracker, etc, colorfinale, etc) are still not compatible and after starting the player, probably because of some incompatible plugin, finalcut crashed and then the MacBook Air went into kernel panic.
Many finalcut plugins cause this problem.
I contacted the support of these plugins and they informed me that m1 compatibility is expected in 2-3-4 months.

note:
some of these plugins I had bought recently, they refunded me. (the note that they were not compatible with either rosetta or m1 was posted on their website)

I don’t know if it is related to the unified memory architecture and its use of swap files but my Library/Caches folder this morning was 110GB.

Most users have no idea about that folder taking up so much drive space.

I wish macOS would automatically maintain and trim that folder down to minimum size.

Late yesterday I installed Brave (after removing all signs of Chrome) then put an Xtreme skin on the lid and base. All was fine until this morning when I noticed real heat build-up on the base for the first time. Battery was going down super fast, ie 50%-23% in just over an hour. Can't see the logic in the skin being at fault and I thought Brave was lightweight? Might not be either of these so I'll see what happens over the next day or so.

Brave is a steaming pile of ****. The only reason it exists is to appeal to a certain demographic with odd ball ideological beliefs (not saying you are one of them). Since it’s built on Firefox and Tor just use those, if that’s your thing. I don’t care for either.

Maybe that's causing the issue as I just came off a Teams call (while charging) and the battery has already dropped from 35%-25% in 20 minutes. Something really odd going on for sure.

I have a time machine backup drive that I use for all the Macs we have and for some reason, while the M1 Mac mini is able to access the drive and create files and directories on it, including the sparsebundle directory, the backup fails with the message "The backup disk image could not be created". Just starting to try and troubleshoot the issue, but felt posting the issue might be helpful.

has anyone got a straight answer from apple about the Bluetooth audio glitching out with AirPods (Pro)? Every minute or 5 it’s drops the sound for a second or sound gets distorted for 2 seconds. Clicking on the Bluetooth icon in the menu and clicking on airplay icon in music causes glitch or left / right to go out of sync, or stop playing all together. Even clicking the wifi icon in menu will cause it too glitch. Can’t use it for meeting or streaming any movies. Too annoying ?

Have reset Bluetooth module, reset devices, removed all devices, reset factory settings, rebooted many times, reinstalled from scratch. At wits end.

Have 11.1 installed (got the RC2 early) and no better. Is it just Bit Sur? Or should I send it back?

edit. M1 Air base model.
I don't think this is an issue affecting every one. Ive been using my AirPod pros for about 6 hours a day with my MacBook Air base model and Big Sur and not had one single problem.

Same with me on an M1 MBP. Once the APPs are connected to the right place (which is rarely straightforward), they work great for the duration.

So I think the battery-draining culprit is Emulsion. Energy Impact constantly 100+. Maybe I need to try Lightroom.

I've had this m1 mba for almost a week now and since this morning the battery icon in the menu bar always says Spotlight is "using significant energy" and never goes away. When I check the activity monitor, it looks like spotlight isn't doing anything...is this a glitch? I updated it to Big Sur 11.1 last night.

Microsoft OneDrive is a CPU-hog when it's sync-ing or "processing" (whatever that means...it does it for hours and days at a time). Generally about 100% CPU (one core, I assume) constantly. It did this on my Intel Mac as well, which killed the battery life as you can imagine.

I found the cause and solution to the Bluetooth audio glitch -- Submitted both consumer feedback to apple, and formal developer bug report (FB8943911). I noticed the issue happened every time the "Location Services" icon appeared in the menu bar (which I've enabled in Privacy settings).

So I played around with turning off various Location services under System Services > "Details" button, and pinned it down to "Wi-Fi Networking" causing the problem! In fact, you can uncheck that, wait a few seconds and then reenable, and the dropout happens again instantly. "Wi-Fi Calling" also seems to trigger it (but I didn't have that checked initially.) None of the other options (Time Zone, Find my Mac, etc.) seemed to cause the issue. So I left Wi-Fi Networking unchecked and the sporadic audio glitches seems to have ceased.

I don't use Bluetooth for mouse or trackpad, but wonder if this may be the cause of those issues too. Give this a try and hope it helps you and others...

Oh and here's the exact path to the problem settings: System Prefs > Security & Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Details > uncheck Wi-Fi Networking / Wi-Fi Calling.

It should go away after a few days. Spotlight is likely indexing your computer. And the update to 11.1 have prolonged it.

That is interesting and do also make sense as the location service scans all the channels to determine where it is.
for those who are most affected by the Bluetooth issue likely have WiFi router on a channel that causes more interference on the Bluetooth channels. I have issue with the Magic Mouse but it happens rare, only short bursts once or twice per day so I will check if this will alleviate this.

Thanks! This specific checkbox didn’t do anything for me (actually I didn’t reboot afterwards, might try that) but completely disabling location services, thus far, fixed the problem all-together.

So I accidentally posted this on the mini/display issues thread, but here it goes here too;

TLDR: I can't use both my screens at once.

I'm sitting here crying at my desk.
I'm so ****ing tired of this.
Had display problems for 3 years with my old MBP 2017. Every day at work I would be fiddling for well over 30 minutes, to my bosses dismay, and half of the days I'd just sit there with one display, while the other 27" just sat dark for me to glance longingly at as space became scarce.

So, I sent for the M1 six weeks ago. I waited and waited, and finally, it arrived the day before last. It's the first time since 2008 that I've fallen in love with a computer, I honestly love this thing. The sound, the keyboard! I didn't dare plug her into my two displays for this reason... I just ****ing knew it would be more of the same **** as the last three years. Alas, I was right, and therefore I cry.

It allows me one or the other — either the subpar coloured 34" Acer, or the limited spaced, but beautiful, 27" Dell. The first is HDMI to usb-c, the other usb-c to usb-c with charging.
However I try, it will not allow me both.

I'm so goddamn tired. Tired of spending thousands upon thousands on tech that eats my time with mundane plugging and unplugging, tired of adapters that break down every three months... Tired of being tied to a system I love and do not want to leave.

Yesterday I updated my MacBook Pro M1 to macOS 11.2 Developer Beta 1. So far it seems like this update resolves both my Bluetooth crackling / dropouts as well as my screen dropouts (USB-C to HDMI). I will keep testing but so far everything looks good.

I've only just realised that the MBP M1 doesn't support 2 external screens!!! WHAT THE ****!
That is not apparent on the website, stating they support 1 6K screen is not the same as only support one screen period.

****ing hell. What the... what do I even do now? Sending it back obviously. And then what?! Can't go back to my "old" MBP because it's just spaced out for no apparent reason. Waited 6 weeks with so much hope... for nothing.

I think this is my last apple attempt. 12 years. I love these machines, but I can't stand how they are deteriorating. I'll just have to power through the software issues of working fulltime on Linux.

To be fair it has been pretty well publicised. It's a limitation of the M1 chip. But having said that, how can the mac mini run two screens if it's a limitation of the M1 chip?
I wonder if it's possible through a dock with support for 2 or 3 monitors? I don't know if that would make a difference.

Beach Ball Hell for me. Just posted details, but the quick version: Shipped it back to Apple and bought a current 16” MBP instead.
Me too. I bought a Mac Mini in November and sent it back after two weeks...am writing this with my 2011 Mac Mini and being off for two weeks, its better than ever....They sent me a new one but I have not opened it and I am strongly considering sending it back for a refund...I spent an hour on the phone with applecare and finally he said...what we are doing is not working...lets download BS and install it....I tried and got an error that it could not be done or something. He suggested I drive 45 min to Gainsville to bring it for service.....I rejected that idea and called to return it to Apple..I think B.Sur fixes apps that were not broken like iTunes and added on screen notifications that no one was asking for....however ignored the fact that copy/paste has not been improved since OS8 and address book is one font...no color, no size changes...they could have improved that but chose not to.

I am soooo disappointed... I am a music producer on my free time. All my hardware is not compatible with the new M1 MacBook Pro. Also, plugins for Logic Pro x are not compatible. I hope things will change in the near future but I have a feeling that only from the M2 we might see compatibility fixed.. I really hope buying the M1 was not a big mistake. So far it feels like it was... Regarding the speed and power of the computer, the amazing touch on the keyboard, the amazing screen, all this is not worth it if you can't do what you intended to do with the computer...
My recommendation..... WAIT!!!!
