I have my 14 inch MacBook Pro that I use for work and my side business for when I am working out of the house.

I use my 11 inch M1 with 2TB for when I’m on the road, when I’m mobile, I use it a LOT. I have and use the Pencil, smart keyboard folio so it folds back and I could type up reports on the fly, and the Magic Keyboard for when I’m doing some real work that gets me typing a lot.

I placed the order for the M4 with 2TB plus the Apple Pencil Pro, Magic Keyboard and folio. Really wish they kept the Smart Keyboard Folio.

I’m using Gazelle for the trade in for $557 and have 30 days to send it in. I’ll be looking to sell my Keyboard cases and Apple Pencil for hopefully another $300-350 on eBay to offset some of the costs.

My primary reasons for upgrading is it’s thinner and lighter, I use the iPad a lot while walking, drawing and planning out concepts on projects. I’m excited about the OLED, I’ll never complain about display upgrades. I am also looking forward to trying Final Cut Pro on this. I do a lot of Zoom calls on the road, the camera placement is helpful.

I was considering the Nano Texture version, but from the videos, it seems to take away from the OLED advantages, washes it out a little bit, and one guy showed it’s a little harder to see in some angles. I’d also be concerned with scratching the coating with the pencil.

My plan is to get the M4 and try it for 10 days. If I am not finding the upgrades to be significant enough, I’ll return it and hold on to my M1 for another generation.

I’m still on the fence. The only thing that makes me want to is the oled screen. I have both a 11” and 12.9” and would need both magic keyboards and the new pencil so upgrading for me would be very expensive. I just can’t imagine needing anything more than what I currently have.
Yep went with 13 inch pro cell with pencil n keyboard

It is the Happy Hacker Keyboard. Hacker being the original term for hacker which is a computer programmer.

They are a keyboard used by computer programmers such as myself due to the optimized key layout. It was also inspired by the original Mac keyboard.

Got it. But this is not really something for portable use, which is kind of the whole point of the iPad.

No,... I have a 1TB M1 iPad Pro... It'll cost me ~$3000 CAD to upgrade for a similar experience that's highly neutered by iPadOS.

My main gripe right now is my M1 iPad Pro stills screams and works perfectly fine - with exception to the battery. For a company that's now holding back stickers to save the environment, they sure could just replace the battery in my iPad and I could easily get another 2-3 years out of it - but no, they want me to throw away the keyboard, pen and iPad to go buy a bunch of new devices, packaging, and carbon footprint from shipping.

I've hit a point where I just don't think I can support the hypocrisy and anti-consumer ways of Apple anymore. There's not enough value to justify it anymore for me.

Should say a lot coming from someone who has been an Apple customer since the iPhone 3G (owned the 3G, 4,5,6,7,X,11,12,14PM and multiple iPads/MBPs over the years). My entire family is also on Apple products (phones/laptops/homepods/airpods etc). My plan is to still continue a MBP refresh, but moving everything else away in products that are less ecosystem locked and legitimately half the price.

It is portable, but I wasn't trying to make a point about the keyboard itself.

It was more that forcing changes of the auxiliary "tools" are disruptive to professional workflows. Allowing users to maintain those across releases has serious value for professionals.

It's quicker and the screen should be prettier, but can it do anything new? The camera is finally sensibly located, at least.

Yes; I have wanted to get the bigger iPad for a while now as I have been using my iPad as a laptop replacement more and more, especially with my job embracing BYOD. Bigger, OLED screen and a better Magic Keyboard are very enticing to me.

Well said. I think I am in a similar place.

They have been doing too many things that have made me start limiting my Apple spending. For instance, my M1 iPad Pro is getting weaker on battery and convincing Apple to allow me to buy a new battery is a struggle. They push back on "it isn't yet below 80%"... But we'll sell you a new one! They list a battery replacement price I should be able to buy it whenever the battery is too worn by my estimation not theirs. Which is a pretty hostile policy for a company that claims to be consumer focused.

The other ones like we've discussed here are frustrating too. Why would you need to buy all new accessories for what amounts to minor spec bump releases? Except to help Apple extract even more money from you. Which is also pretty hostile. Even worse when they do it while simultaneously telling us they are environmentally focused. If they are truly environmentally focused reducing accessory waste should be a key target for them.

I don't think I'll be dumping Apple entirely, but I definitely won't be buying as much as I used to.

I don’t think the target audience for the new M4 iPads is really aimed at M1 owners or even users with iPads 2020 onwards. It’s one of those devices that is already too powerful for what many use them for.

I am upgrading from the M2 just because I want that screen. Old iPad is going to Gazelle Wednesday night.

Yep. Moving on from my 12.9 inch Space Grey, to the 13 inch Space Black.. but pairing it this time with the White Magic Keyboard, instead of the black to mix it up a bit.

I initially ordered the M4. But then I slept on it. The issue I am having now is that the 13" iPad Pro costs $2,048 at the minimum spec I would buy (512GB, cell, with keyboard). Deducting my $510 trade in would mean I am shelling out over $1,500 net (before Applecare, additional covers, new pencil, etc). What I am I getting for that - a lighter package, additional storage, and a new landscape front camera. OLED seems nice, but Mini LED is also very nice. M4 looks great, but it would have no additional impact on my workflow. So I am not sure the upgrade makes sense for me at that price.

Nope, I spent a lot to buy this M1 in 2021 (which is still super solid and does everything I need). I would have to invest in a new Apple pencil and a new keyboard case again...that's a whole lot of money to burn just for OLED. Especially considering it's up there now with Macbook Air prices after all the accessories.

I'll wait a few years and hope that OLED and Face ID eventually trickle down to the Air models so I can save some cash. If not, then the Pro model should have more upgrades accumulated up by then, maybe 16gb could even be standard by then without going 1tb. Or if I want just the OLED, this M4 Pro would be cheaper to buy refurbished in a few years. There's really no downsides to waiting.

I’m sticking with my M1 12.9” although I may have been tempted to upgrade if the new 13” Pro had WiFi 7.

I have an M4 iPad 11 1TB/5G order pending along with the new MKB & Apple Pencil. I’m really thinking about keeping my M1 & canceling as I’m just getting the same spec’d version I already have. Other than the M4, display upgrade & the landscape FaceTime camera, I don’t really see much of a reason to upgrade as I’ll have to purchase all new accessories. I’m leaning towards it not being worth it. I suppose the only thing that can persuade me would be features specific to the M4 that I’d only be able to confirm at WWDC.

I'm not. I can't justify the price for the 11 pro at $1400CAD. Plus I would have to buy a new case and a new pencil to go with it. Not worth it. If I was to spend that money I'd rather just buy a MacBook Air and keep my iPad pro M1. And have a mac laptop for different purposes

The only way I would consider the upgrade. Is if the new screen completely blows away the old iPad screens. The 10,000 nits brightness is appealing to me. I will have to check it out in person first.

I’ve gone from 11” M1 to 13” M4.
Same here. I had the OG iPad Pro and I liked the screen size, but the weight/unwieldiness of it ended up pushing me back to the smaller iPad. I have the M1 iPad Pro and it has been great, but I use my iPad as a laptop replacement more now than ever before and I am super ready for both a bigger screen and a full-size keyboard.

Meanwhile, I don't see much value in MacBooks as I prefer to use Windows. Tried to switch to the M1 MacBook Air in 2020 but it's a pain changing my workflow.

iPads, I use daily so I don't mind paying a premium.

I'm the same way, I use my iPad everyday for so many things and I don't see much value in Apple laptops. As I use windows primarily But at work we use Mac.

I'm open to upgrading if the screen on the new iPad blows away the M1 screen. And if it has much better battery life and is a lot brighter. I'll wait for reviews to come out. My iPad has been one of my most used and best buys for tech devices in the last 5 years.

I'm not technically an M1 owner anymore as I sold it last year and have been going iPad-less, but it was the last iPad I had, so I'm going to answer anyways.

Yes, I'm upgrading. OLED has been my most desired feature since 2017. With my 12.9" M1, I also went all in on making my iPad my computer/laptop replacement. It worked, but I was missing some functionality I had on Mac, and I didn't really enjoy the experience.

Going with the 12.9" size for the first time with the M1 iPad Pro actually made me kind of fall out of love with the iPad. It was just too big to comfortably use as just a tablet. This just made me almost always use it with the Magic Keyboard which defeated the purpose of the modularity concept that made me so excited for iPad as a laptop replacement. I didn't realize how much I valued or how much that 9.7/10.5/11 portable form factor made the iPad feel so futuristic, fun, and magical for me.

So now, I'm going back to what is the classic iPad experience for me: the 9.7/10.5/11" size with just an Apple Pencil and the OLED screen I've been dreaming about for years. I couldn't be more excited.
