The 14" doesn't have that setting, 16" only as per: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212852
Wow, I didn't know that. Regardless, it's' glitchy. If you want high power mode I've found you have to set both to High Power; just one will get weird results. Either that or set both to Automatic and it seems to stabilize around 3.58 Ghz. If one is at high and one at automatic I've seen a weird of core frequency values, from 3.24 on the low end, to 3.38, 3.44, 3.58. Reboot and they change a little.

Setting both battery and power adapter to high or automatic mode doesn't change anything for me even after a restart. Still reading 3.49ghz and same scores.

Im sure its apple limiting the 30 core

It will be bizarre if the 16” 38 core is clocked the highest being the one with the highest power requirements.
So I work kind of in the space, but in a different capacity, I am not a chip designer, but work for a company who does it in a much different role. But from what I know about the chipmaking process, typically the best chips of the wafer are able to work at lower voltage targets while achieving the same speeds/cores etc. Meaning it’s entirely likely the biggest fully enabled chips are that way because they are also the most power/voltage efficient.

That also means the best chips could have some of the lowest temperatures, relative to the binned chips also.

Now I can’t speak to why or what the variables are, not my experience. Maybe someone who knows about this could chime in and add some actual information.

Mine is also scheduled for 3 February and I did a little Google search of FedEx hub in Tennessee and there’s a possibility that they’ll just keep it a few days before they send it out. Unknown why since it’s already there, but that’s what the site said.

My 14 inch just arrived. M2 Max 38 core, 64GB, 2TB.

Looks like 3.49 Ghz. But Metal benchmarks seem excellent.

(Repeat of message above with screenshots instead of link.)

It does seem that it's only single core CPU that is being potentially capped judging by the benchmarks so far, only 16" 38core max seems to possibly be allowed to go past 3.5?, but why the 38 and 30 if so is puzzling. Unless it really is just because of chip binning on CPU also.

my 30 core 16" should be arriving tomorrow.

15k multicore score. It was not that long ago I was using a Mac with a 5K score and thought it was the fastest Mac I had ever used.

Just watched Max Techs 16” Video and it looks like the higher clock is Geekbench related or something is buggy.

The clock of their 16” M2 Max 38 core is lower in Cinebench

ok figured out how to do a screenshot on Mac. this is a 38 core 8tb 96gb mbp 16 inch. happy to post other data that this showed if it matters.

plugged into shore power and max battery. nothing else was running. this is out of the box. this Geekbench app was the first thing I installed.

mine was delivered today to my surprise! typing on it now.

I'm happy to do this benchmark test but do you have to buy the program?
Well, good for you. That was a surprise. I want to find gonna come tomorrow? With my luck now. Benchmarking tools can be download for free.
