The PG42UQ has a 150 ppi compared to 105 ppi for the C2.

That makes a big difference long term on your eyes when reading text on the monitor/TV.

TV's usually have lower PPI for obvious reasons. The TV is just not a good idea to use it as a Monitor.

E.g on my LG OLED connected to hackintosh, anything above 1440p is horrible and frustrating to read. At the same time i still have an old 32 iMac and the text rendering and readable is far superior.

I think this is one the biggest mistake people make when buying a TV to use as a Monitor.
I don't really have any issue with the ppi or with the current resolution of my LG C2 42", easy to read, text is plenty sharp to me. I just want 120hz with my mac. Unfortunately, I can not justify the extremely high price of the PG42UQ. If getting 120hz on the M1 Mac Mini wont be possible, I'll wait a couple of months and hunt down a used, but still under warranty M2 Pro Mac Mini.

That's completely wrong, it's the same size, same resolution and same ratio (16:9), so the PPI is also the same. It seems you don't even know what a PPI is. It's not something arbitrarily decided - it's pixel density...

This! I daily use my 48" C1 with my gaming PC for just about a year and have no problem reading text on windows. Love the 120hz @ 4k on oled but would also love to use 120hz 4k on the macbook air m2. Making me regret getting this air and might end up selling it for either a pro or a windows laptop. I am just a bit invested with an Apple only software at this point that is keeping me away from getting a Windows laptop.

Well I just updated my 2018 Mac Mini to 13.2 from Big Sur.
Using the Cable Matters 48Gbps USB C to HDMI 2.1 Adapter and I'm still at 60hz on my 42" LG C2 OLED.
But under 13.2 I can now enable HDR when using the adapter.

Interestingly after updating, when I press the green button on my remote 7 times, using the built in HDMI port it says YCBCR420 10b TM.
Using the adapter it says YCBCR444 10b 4L6.
Did you use this specific Cable Matters adapter? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MSWMXT4/
And did you update the cable with this firmware? https://kb.cablematters.com/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=147

I still don't think it will work on an Intel Mac. But I think there is still hope for M1/M2 (non Pro) Macs. I just placed an order for the adapter and will definitely do some experimenting with my 83" LG C1 as a 4K120 display.

Just bought the new active usb-c alt mode DP to HDMI 2.1 UNITEK V1414A for ~40$

And what do you know, it connects to my tv in FRL6 4lanes 12gbs mode with HDR.
Ventura 13.0
My intention was not to get 120 fps 4k, but to get rid of chroma.
Also, it has support for VRR, but that only works on my windows pc.

Incidentally, FRL6 is enough bandwidth to support 4k120 10bit 444 (even 12bit)
Realistically though, we can only get the converted DP 1.4a 32gbps, so that is FRL 4 - without any DSC, which I doubt will ever work with these adapters.

Its really interesting that this mode even works, because 4k60 10bit 444 HDR is way out of range of HDMI 2.0 protocol, (~22.28Gbps vs ~18Gbps), which indicates to me that m1 chipset is capable of using the whole DP 1.4a bandwidth even when converted to HDMI 2.1

Can you connect it to an Intel Mac and run AllRez ? It will tell us what converter chip it uses.

Yea I have that same adapter. I had no idea they had a firmware that could be updated.
I'm going to take a look in to it because right now whenever I turn on my LG C2 it sometimes kind of flickers between a black or green screen and then eventually it either goes to my desktop or it just says no signal.
Only way around it right now is to unplug the usbc side and then plug it back in.

Received my MBP M2 Max today, replacing my MBP M1 Pro, its actually on 13.0 (22A8380) rather than 13.2. Now finally running my 48CX at ultrawide 3840x1620@120hz just like my Windows gaming PC and its great. It really is worthless that this is not possible on the M1 Pro/Max, or even M1 and M2. It should've been made possible years ago :(

Afraid I dont have one. Been watching this thread hoping someone would find a solution before buying.. I bought this a few years back but I didnt think it would work even back then, and it does not work with the M2 Max either.

Please click the green button 6-7 times on the LG remote and let us know the connection :)

Which adapter? The cable in my post does not work. I dont have any other adapters, and since I got the M2 now I wont be needing either.
Yes I know, but I want to know if the USB-C > HDMI 2.1 Adapter works on a M2 Machine. Because I have an USB 4 Dock with HDMI 2.1 connected and dont want to connect an extra HDMi Cable to my Macbook.

If you have a LG Oled that does 4k and 120hz and you don’t want to buy an new M2 max then I have found a way to get it wiring on Monterey via HDMI 2.1 but you will lose sound …but you can connect a USB audio device as a workaround…the main thing is that you will have 4k120 ….I’ve achieved that from my 2010 MacPro 5,1 with a RX6600xt ….. create custom resolution in switch res x and select simplified settings and choose CVT-RB …not 2 or 3. Save and reboot and activate new resolution!!!! Voila!!!

Ive just fixed the sound by complete chance - I plugged in a an active Club3D display port to HDMI adapter and then removed mu 8k HDMI cable and plugged it into the HDMI 2.1 port on my GPU leaving the Club 3D still plugged in and VOILA! Sound through the TV via HDMI and 4k@120hz on a 2010 MacPro and RX6600XT!!!! FINALLY Tru Motion Scrolling on my 48inch OLED and Mac OS!!!!

Your running on HDMI 2.0 standards with the 4:2:0 8bit 120hz @ 4k

We are seeking 444 120hz @ 4k (HDMI 2.1)

I'm not sure how I can update it.
I have a gaming pc, but my cpu (Ryzen 5800x3d) doesn't have integrated graphics so I can't see anything when I plug it in and connect my display.

I think you can run the tool to update the adapter, using your regular GPU video connection to your monitor.
