A great plan!

I was doing something similar, but for $180 was I was able to switch to an internal 2TB drive and skip the dock/external NVMe part altogether

Worth considering

(Prices have gone up slightly and I used a coupon to get to $180 -- still only $215 right now though -- great value)

For me, my less than one year old USB Pioneer BDR-XS07S disc drive doesn't communicate properly with Apple Music through the Belkin hub I purchased from Apple when I bought my prior M1 Mini. My desire to solve that issue meant that I would have to roll the dice and buy another hub of some kind.

Just upgrading the internal SSD would not have addressed the drive issue.

I am also in a conundrum. Ordered the Raycue 40 Gbps, but they charged my CC and never shipped. They do not respond to any inquiries. So today I disputed the charge.

Now I am thinking to have the external SSD and hub as separate accessories on my second M4 Mac mini. The OWC Express 1M2 works perfectly with another M4 mini (meaning 3000 MB/s write and read), so I am going to go with that again. I will then order a 10 Gbps port extender/hub later. System cost will be higher, but that is the only viable solution right now.

It will ship, just take a long time. They do not send an email when they ship also, despite what is said during the order.
And the shipping is longer than usual.
But overall, I received mine and it works as advertised.

Mine did not work correctly and had to put in a credit card chargeback because RayCue never responded. I would never buy anything from them again.

Just for the sake of curiosity: how long did it take for your dock to get to you and into which country?
(Spoiler: I'm also waiting for mine to arrive and I haven't heard anything since place the order :p)

Cheers, Thomas

Update: Today I received the Raycue 40 Gbps hub!
Verified that the SSD works well (3000 MBps read and write).

But I am puzzled by the Audio jack. When I plug the speakers into it, I can't seem to find a way to direct Sound output to that (when I plug directly into the Mac min, I do see "External Headphones-Headphone port" option in the Sound Output). Any idea how that works?

I cancelled my charge dispute even though the bank had already refunded the charge, as I am a nice guy.

If you look at a system report, do you see a USB audio device when you have the dock plugged in? In assume you went onto the sound settings and checked the output selection?

I found the cutest M4 mini stand ever...

Just to answer myself on this:

I received my RayCue (40Gbps one) today, ordered on Feb10 and shipped to Germany. No email was sent when it was shipped, tracking number on my RayCue account still leads to an "shipping pending" with the logistics company.
All works well, speed of the internal M2 NVME is >3.000 Mbps/s on Read and Write, slightly slower than the internal one of my MacMini M4 (24GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) with >4.500 Mbps/s on Write and >3.000 Mbps on Read.
Audio on the backside works fine, I connected a pair of cheap loudspeakers into it and that works for my purpose.
All in all, so far for me it was worth the wait to have a clean look on my desk.

Where did you get yours? I ordered from Amazon but this is obviously a generic 3D print. Mine says arrives March 16. I wonder if a US based seller has them in stock.
AliExpress - 6 days to UK

Pretty decent quality 3D print on the one I've got, although I've not seen any print files out there for it (friend printed a desk bracket for my Caldigit TS4 previously).
