Yeah, I'm really excited about the new Finder. I'm glad Apple is working to unify more than just the window shades.

Alternate menubar pic

In case anyone is interested in what the menubar would look like on a background other then the green grass, I found this shot of Leopard Server in the press section.

My personal opinion is that it looks nice on that darker background. It's probably what Jobs should of used in his presentation or at least shown it as a different example.

@Prostuff: It does indeed look like iTunes, but that's what Apple's going for. So many people know how to use iTunes, and do every day, that it's just the most natural option. I personally like it, it's more organized and refined than the current Finder, especially in regards to the sidebar.

Edit: Yeah, I posted the server thing earlier. It looks -much- better with a different wallpaper.

The one thing I hope they change: the almost invisible icons for active applications in the dock. Ugh, they're terrible; you can barely see them, no contrast with the reflective dock.

Actually, I like the new underlying 'lights' for active apps in the new dock. Subtle, yet enough contrast to signify which apps are running. I much prefer the 'LED' effect to the dark triangles. Again, I imagine that a blue or darker desktop will bring out more contrast, but this hardly seems necessary. Beautiful interface so far.

I'm using a darker background, and if anything it makes the little lights less visible. I like the idea; it meshes with the design of the reflective dock. But they could be a bit more readily noticeable.

Darker background + menu bar is a good deal though.

Nice screenshots! I've been waiting for these. :) I like everything except for that Menu Bar. Like others here, I really hope we'll have the option of adjusting the transparency.

More screens, please! :D

Agreed. This kind of desktop makes an enormous difference in how Leopard comes across. Makes the translucent menu bar look sleek and elegant, as well as the 3D dock (ledge)

Rectangular menu bar...

The rounded corners on the menu bar have been around since the original Macintosh in 1984... Sad to see that iconic UI element go.

Side note, it irks me that those who have a copy of Leopard are posting public blogs "flaunting" it to everyone as a sense of entitlement. Then, when people ask how they got it, etc. they slam everyone down with sarcastic comments about not getting into "private" torrent communities lol. It's kind of funny how these computer geeks flex their "cyber muscle" and trip over their supposed power. If they didn't want to be bothered with everyone's comments then they shouldn't have posted a public blog about using Leopard 9A466. It's obnoxious and pretty lame.

One command, and you'll be able to brighten or dim those little lights.

Somebody's got some juicy info. I'm sticking by this guy. That sounds excellent.

Tell me this if you can- I haven't seen any full-size screen grabs- what is the texure of the menubar? ie Tiger's is kind of aqua reflective..

is it flat, or just a gradient, or kinda aqua? I overlaid a straight transparency over a similar background and it looks like the menubar is doing a little bit more than just transparency... like a screen multiply or something. Maybe I'm just crazy.

what is that podacst capture? that looks like something i can use

But what to replace them with... the iTunes scroll-bars look like something from a Linux distro, but they're the best we've got.

O god tell me the latest beta doesn't use the horrid flat scrollbars that are in iTunes 7??! I really hate those. Looks like something from a 2nd month design student that just learned photoshop.

look at any of the screen shots, the scroll bars are still the same blue wavy scroll bars

I just meant that I hope they didn't have some other 'surprise' up their sleeve to revert to that ugly rendition. I prefer the gray themed aqua scroll bars in Tiger to the blue normal ones. Basically anything EXCEPT those hideous iTunes ones.

Someone needs UNO

All this info is awesome, but what I really want to hear about is iChat. Can someone with the Leopard Beta tell me if the screen sharing feature is still in iChat?

Well, over at apple UK, they still have the old leopard videos. In the iChat demo video they show screen sharing. I think that if this feature had been removed, then they would've removed it from apple UK too.

What I would mostly like to see in Finder is a useable Cmd+X shortcut. I switched from Windows/Linux about 6 months ago and I find OS X to be simply a joy to work with. Except for file management in Finder.

I really really miss the cut/paste workflow I was used to in Explorer. It's core functionality imho, and I can't see why Steve has taken it from me.

Is it not possible that the people who ordered it to be taken down forgot about it being mentioned on the UK site? Or possibly didn't even know? I wouldn't be surprised.
