I have a Mac Pro 1,1. I need clarification on installing Tiamo's boot.efi. Can I install boot.efi on my current boot Mac OSX drive? After I update my drive, can I install Maverick?

It depends what you mean by this.

If you mean you currently have a version of OS X installed on the Mac Pro other than Mavericks,
then you should not change its boot.efi. As this will not help you to run Mavericks.

The boot.efi needs to be changed either:-

a) After Mavericks has been installed normally using another Mac (swapping the drives, target disk mode, cloning etc...) which supports Mavericks.

b) Or the boot.efi needs to be changed on the Mavericks bootable installer on a memory stick (can create this automatically using SFOTT, or manually using Tiamo's original instructions) after which you can use the Mavericks bootable installer to install Mavericks.

I cant believe that Apple wasn't willing to come up with a simple fix to allow any new OS X to work on any apple hardware :/

I believe, that's the issue is not as simple as putting another boot.efi in Mavericks. There are the issues of GPUs that would need support, for example.
As a developer, I can understand, why Apple doesn't want to do this, since backward compability is a bag of hurt (I.e. try to support IE6, while doing all the cool new web stuff).
We, in this forum, know that what we're doing is not supported and can handle that, mostly. But your vanilla video editor can't handle that, and will buy a new Mac Pro, if she has to.

Has anyone else had issues on 10.9.1 with disk utility going unresponsive with and having to manual force close it ?
On a 2,1 with 10.9.1. Boot back into lion no issues with disk utility but when launched in mavericks it crashes upon initializing the drives

It is working for me. I have had issues in the past in general, if another utility is blocking full access while Disk Utility is trying to get the mount and disk information. You might want to find out, what else is loaded.
Since it is working in Lion, you might want to check your disks there to see, whether there are other problems with them.

I did have an issue with 10.9.1 and disk utility when I was experimenting with a USB3.0 card and a new Seagate 2tb USB3.0 drive, I strongly suspect that the card was faulty, and when I swapped it out, no further problems with disk utility - in fact not a problem with disk utility at all, but with the USB3.0 in reality making it look like a problem with disk utility.

As an illustration of what haralds wrote in fact.

Funny you should suggest that as I just put an orico USB 3 card in when I redid the setup removing my chameleon setup and doing tiamos method. Are there any fixes for USB 3. Or is it going to be the case of having to use Lion for disk utilities

Well… My, and at least one other person's experiences on the USB3.0 megathread within this Mac Pro sub forum were sub optimal* to say the least - I swapped in an Inateck card and all's been well ever since. In the short term, booting to Lion may be one course of action, but in the earlier days of Mac OS software, using the disk utils from one OS on a later or earlier one was considered to be a VERY bad thing indeed. I would endeavour to see if removing the Orico card removed the issue.

*data corruption, stalling, causing the PCI bus to hang.

True but there is an issue with your thinking, before you would try Mavericks you have to make sure your hardware is at least capable of running it lol You have a 2.1 set up so do I. I had to make at sure at least that I was running some capable specs before I even tried running Mavericks. Also that your video card was capable of running with Mavericks or even with Mountain Lion :) I hardly believe that Apple was at least not thinking about that because all my hardware worked without installing anything other than my printers :)

I actually jumped back over to the USB thread and saw the inateck suggestion now over the orico so I went ahead and order one---while I was swapping out my 5770's for the nvidia route I removed the orico and no issues --- thanks for the suggestions and solutions

Yes, but I wasn't speaking of us here in the forum. I was speaking of people who don't know what hardware they have and what the fuss with compability is about. That's what Apple has to deal with. People that buy shiny Apple stuff, because 'it just works'.

Also, Apple has to consider the configuration they sold the mac pros 1,1 and 2,1 with. The GPUs sold then are mostly not supported anymore, AFAIR.
They would have to tell customers that installed Post-Lion, that they have to also buy an expensive GPU. I guess, that's something that Apple wants to avoid.

Yes, it is completely normal, because you have the original, verbose version. If you want the non-verbose version, go to the second page of this thread, or thereabouts, and download the "silent" version.

THanks no the mac starts normally in graph mode! :)

You may have misunderstood. It's not the Mac in verbose/graphic mode. It's Tiamo's boot.efi. You have the verbose version. If you don't like that, use the non-verbose version. But, hey, suit yourself.

EDIT: I may have misread you. If you meant "noW the mac starts normally in graph mode!", I'm glad it worked.

I am also using the Inateck with mavericks and it works flawlessly. It does not have native Lion support. I installed ONLY the driver hacked from the LaCie driver in kextbeast and it does work. However, I am not sure whether the UASP mode is supported in Lion with that KEXT.

Yeah, I've got the same issues with my Orico. It works great, but Disk Utility and System Information hang. A restart normally gets them to work again but it is a hassle.

Which is the Inateck model?

Got my 5770 today which has made my Mavericks install non laggy! However I'm sure this is due to mavericks I have Final Cut Pro X, Compressor 4.1 and the Pixelmator trial all not launching? If I click them they just bounce once and do nothing? Anyone got any ideas?
