Just in case tobyg isn't available now, you should have run his script BEFORE updating to 10.9.2 or using the 10.9.4 combo. The script reverses the boot.efi substitution effected by all combos after 10.9.2 (including the 10.9.2 delta update itself). If you apply the script after running such updates, the harm was already done, with nothing to stop it.

Hey man,

Thanks for that. It seems to work. I checked both boot.efi files and the one in coreservices seems to be correct (dated as of today), but there are 2 efi files in usr/standalone/i386 folder. One labeled boot.efi and one labeled boot.efi.tiamo.
Should I delete one or keep both?

I just bought a Mac Pro 1.1 and 10.9.4 runs smoothly.

I'm waiting two x5355 and i already installed 10Gb of ram and a GT640 which runs very well. My totally upgraded Mac Pro will cost less than €300. I think it's a good deal :)

I hope that Tiamo will make a Yosemite compatible version of Boot.efi, that would be very good.

If you can hear me Tiamo ;)

I imagine many many people are wondering if Yosemite is on Tiamo's list of things to tinker with. For Maverick's nothing else is as elegant as his solution.

Sorry, I can't, but I'm not sure I understand. Are there any advantages in 1.3.9.7 over 1.4.4, which is the current version?

Same here for my 1,1. I upgraded (dirty install) from Mountain Lion but so far so good. Only problem I came up with was that I needed to update SMBIOS.plist to show I have a Mac Pro 3,1 for it to install. Mountain Lion didn't care that I had 1,1 in it. Everything works super great!

Can you PRETT please direct me on the steps needed? I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with dual 2.66GHz CPus.

Thanks so much!

Tiamos boot EFI is the only intelligent way to go with a Mac Pro.

The other methods are ugly kludges by comparison. The hackerwayne method is suitable for machines that can't change GPU only.

For a MP it is foolish to use that method

Sfott 1.3.9.7???

Hi, I tried first with the newer version about 6 times. I followed the instructions step by step, still no success. Then I saw it somewhere on the net saying that i should use version 1.3.9.7, but i can't find it anywhere. I am using Mac Pro 1.1, i guess it would worth trying the older version before completely giving up.

Man, there's no easier method than SFOTT if you don't have any other 10.8/10.9 capable Mac... You need to: partition USB stick with MBR/Mac OS Extended Journaled then use SFOTT settings before starting USB stick creation to customize all what is needed to match your MP.

Thanks for the help.

GOOD NEWS !!!!

There is LOADS of information posted already.

If you can't find it here, look in the 10.8 and 10.9 OS sections.

Here are some good search terms "Mavericks Tiamo 10.8 10.9 1,1 2,1"

I'll even give you a tip, it is LOADS easier if you have access to a later Mac and a way to install it on a HD that you can move into the 1,1/2,1

Mavericks on unsupported Mac Pro.

Hello,

I had reviewed several tutorials, but I am in the lingo and got confused, I have zero experience in this type of Mac modifications, so, if some kind soul is able to guide through an easy tutorial I will greatly appreciate that.

Updating 10.9 Mavericks to 10.9.4 on a MacPro 1,1 2006

Hi Everyone or anyone that can offer help or a link if they have come across for my issue.

I really would like/need some help I have Mac Pro 1,1 2006.

I have my USB key/boot drive done i have a spare drive for a clean instal i even ran it and had 10.9 running on my 1,1 but i cant understand the steps on how to update ie 10.9.1 to 10.9.2 to 10.9.3 to 10.9.4.

I used the app store to update to 10.9.4 and it will not boot back into that OS. so i wiped it to start again.

So i can install 10.9 simple but then how do i get to 10.9.4 the instructions are not clear or maybe its me reading them which is the case as many others have already updated.

What i want to do is this.

1, install 10.9
2, update to 10.9.4
3, check play with for a few days as i only have 7GB of ram and want to make sure of the affect on CPU and RAM.
4, My now main HD 500gb running 10.7.5 wipe ready for a clean install
5, Main HD partition for 10.9 say 400GB and 100GB for boot camp windows, would also like to starting using and familiarising myself with Linux so maybe 400gb= Mavericks 60Gb=B/Camp win and 40GB=Linux

What im not quite getting is the updating of SFOTT to version 1.4.2 to update to 10.9.2 when i already have version 1.4.4 when i made my usb key boot disk.

Any help much appreciated, just need a nudge in the right direction to be able to update and whether or not i can go 10.9 straight to 10.9.4 if so which update to use the combo or app store.

Thanks in advance to all also OEM for building this and of course Tiamo

Updating 10.9 Mavericks to 10.9.4 on a MacPro 1,1 2006

Hi MacDann

Thanks for the really quick response

Just to clarify i have unsupported Mac Pro 1,1 2006 i have my USB boot key

your just saying
update 10.9.1 reboot
update 10.9.2 reboot
update 10.9.3 reboot
update 10.9.4 reboot

No need for the usb key, or patches, or nothing, just to update each one at a time.

You can update each one but you need to reinstall tiamo boot.efi for somes of them
so make sure that you can boot from another disk to recover boot.efi on updated maverick disk.

Mavericks USB Install error.

Hello, I just created a Mavericks 10.9.3 USB Install with the 64 to 32 script but I can not boot from the USB drive, when I try to install Mavericks I get the following error: Could not find installation information for this machine. Any advise please?.

Saddly. You need exactly 10.9.2. Install app
In your app folder

Try to make usb drive in the same Mac pro 1.1 machine

(That say boot your Mac pro in 10.7.5 ,or somehow
10.8 to make the " KEY " while 10.9.2 install app in app folder)

Adobe CC 2014 apps crashing on Mavericks 10.9.3

Hello,

I had updated my Mac Pro 2,1 to Mavericks OS X 10.9.3 but all the Adobe CC 2014 start up fine but after a few seconds they crash, anyone experiencing the same problem?. I have a Nvidia 8800GT on my machine with 6GB of ram. Any advise greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello again,

So, I have a strange issue (But I'll admit I have a strange setup) with Tiamo's hack...

Let's start from the beginning : I made a 10.9.3 image modified with Tiamo's EFI, cloned it on several mac pros or booted from it, never had any issue. Also modified the image to update without problem. So, I know the image works.

Then, I replaced the SSD in my 2012 Retina Macbook Pro, and ended up with the original SSD sitting there doing nothing, and I thought "Hey, couldn't I use this SSD as a boot drive for my mac pro?"

Turns out I can, purchase this off ebay :
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/261492256656?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

It arrived today, I stick the SSD in, plug it in the mac pro, it shows up. I test the thing, it actually works very fast, maxing out the Sata2 port speed, so I'm a happy camper. I clone the image on the SSD, try to boot...

No go! It shows up as bootable, tries to boot, gives me the apple, then goes black for a second or two, comes back on grey screen with the boot wheel, then it flickers, boot wheel keeps on spinning... then it flickers again, and the cycle goes on forever, it never boots. I tried to re-clone the image, same deal.

By then, I start to blame it on the cheap ebay board that I bought, thinking that thing may not be bootable, for some reason... So I clone my 10.6.8 system on the SSD, to see what's happening... And it boots fine! and crazy fast! Not a glitch, nothing.

So, let's sum up : The SSD is ok, I tested it. The 10.9.3 Tiamo image is ok, I used it several times, including on this very mac pro. The board appears to be ok, as it's working at full speed, and boots 10.6.8 with no problem.
Still, the 10.9.3 image refuses to work on it... :(

My only idea is that there may be some kind of software issue between the Tiamo image and the Retina SSD or the board itself... Any idea, suggestion?

My setup : Mac pro 1,1 2.66Ghz Quad Xeon (I have some X5355 on the way, but they're not in there yet, and I haven't updated the firmware to 2,1 either yet), 10GB RAM (some of it is 800Mhz, though I don't think it would cause any issue there, but I mention it anyway...), Radeon 5870 for Mac (Not a flashed PC card), no PCIe extension card.
Currently running on 2*250GB HD strip RAIDed (could the RAID cause the issue?) on 10.6.8, and there is also a 2TB HD in. All HDs are SMART tested fine, the RAM has been fully tested fine as well. Wifi and bluetooth cards installed.
