I'd want to wait and see if it passes through beta stage to be included in a official release too. And I'd need it for Big Sur too preferably. Can't use Monterey yet, it's too much hassle with my program(s) still. I know I could update firmware only, ceasing the install, and then continue with Big Sur. But I'd want Apple to offer this officially to Big Sur too. Catalina update must be out the question by this time, and that's allright for me, even though this all started with Catalina, some years ago.

But yes, me too am really excited if this finally fixes the long suffering for all of us 6,1 owners. I'd love to have my 3 pcs back in everyday use as reliable working machines, not just hobby and testing. I think this would give me enough reason to finally update the processors too.

Update your CPU while you wait, plus a good cleaning of all the components.

Funny... I don't recall feeling like my MP6,1 boots much slower with 430.100.23.0.0 — but then again, I don't reboot it much at all. Wow... just did. Yep. ~7sec until boot-chime / 1:12 until log-in screen. That's kinda long — but given that I boot up only once every couple of months, I'm not too worried about it. Haven't had a single crash since 430.x, and the performance of the machine has been every bit as good as before the 429.x fw. So I'm not complaining.

That said, I'll be curious to see how this new FW works for everyone. Maybe this "slow boot" is the reason 430.100 never made it to public release. With any luck, 430.120.x is the golden ticket

A CRASH SOLUTION FOR SOME USERS....
This is tough to admit, since I have been using Macs since 1985 and have developed a ton of Mac software, but I have found the very simple solution to my Mac crashing while sleeping. It has never been a crash generating a crash report, but I assumed it was a "restart cash", as after putting it to sleep I would subsequently find it sitting at the "Name / Enter Password" prompt. A couple of days ago, after having put it to sleep, I found it sitting with a "Pages Interrupted Logout" message. I started researching the "Log Out name" function on the Apple Menu, which I never use myself, and found the answer on a website called "pdf.wondershare.com". Apparently since Mojave, if you go to "System Preferences / Security & Privacy", unlock the dialog, click "Privacy", and click the "Advanced..." button at the bottom-right of the dialog, you will see a checkbox "Log out after xx minutes of inactivity". In my case, "xx" was "64", and the option was checked. I unchecked this option on both my 2019 iMac and my new Mac Studio. Both machines have been sleeping for over 18 hours without a hiccup. I have not had a crash since. I know this will not help everybody dealing with crashes, but I cannot be the only one who has not known about this option. Hallelujah!

That option (Log out after....) was unchecked on my 6,1 and was crashing every time it went to sleep. The only thing that stopped the "crash on wake" was the firmware update to 430.100.23.0.0 in the v5 beta of 12.3. The mac now has been going to sleep several times a day (and all night) since 4/20 without a single crash. All sleep settings are set to allow a full sleep (including disks). Well worth the time and effort to downgrade to the beta and then upgrade back to the 12.3.1 non-beta.

The question that everyone knows will come up today on this thread:

Does the fourth beta that came out today have new firmware or still include the previous firmware update to Mac Pro 6,1?

If it does (or the same firmware update version) then we probably can expect a fix at public release!

So far I have not installed the latest Beta - but I will report back as soon as possible.

Edit: Just installed 12.4 Beta 4 (21F5071b) - no change of firmware, still 430.120.6.0.0.

Is there any way to check if the firmware is included in 12.4 Beta 4 (21F5071b)? If someone had already installed the firmware before is there a way to check to see if the firmware is included with the install?

I hadn't installed the 430.100.23.0.0, and yesterday installed the 12.4 beta 4 and now have the 430.120.6.0.0 firmware in my 6.1 Mac Pro, so yes, it is included.

Are you guys running Monterey or Monterey beta with your 6,1s?
Anyone on Big Sur with 430.120.6.0.0?

Seconding this question; I’m running Big Sur on the 430.100.23.0.0 firmware acquired from 12.3beta-V5. Not running Monterey, but haven’t tried the 12.4 beta to get the even newer FW

Most recent macOS Big Sur 11.6.6 20G618 DeveloperSeed from 2022-05-04
430.120.6.0.0
So that's really good news: Big Sur is still maintained and apparently officially compatible with the newest (proper) firmware.

At the moment Monterey beta. But I will return to non-beta as soon as 12.4 oder 12.5 will officially be published to non-beta users. I won't be installing macOS 13 as a beta .0-version (In fact, nobody knows if it macOS 13 will be available on the 6,1-machines at all).

That is always the big question. Normally it would since it was discontinued in 2019, but with the transition to Apple Silicon who knows.

But Apple did say that they will support Intel base systems for “awhile”…. so we have possibilities. “If” it is compatible with macOS 13, my guess is that it may be the last. Technically, we have until 2024 (5 years after discontinued), but again you never know and Apple does not have too if they choose to not.

Is this the longest supported product as far as how many OS’ can run on a product in Apple history? It goes all the way to OS X Mavericks.

OT (but interesting): Now it seems like a it's a tie with cMP 2010, 9 versions of MacOS, from Snow Leopard to Mojave. If 6,1 gets the MacOS 13 it would be one up, 10 MacOSes, from Mavericks to MacOS "some interesting place". I think even timeline wise in supported years it would beat cMP, if this happens.

OnT: D300 with bootrom 430.120.6.0.0, sleeping it constantly, waking it up constantly - no panics yet with Monterey beta. Gotta move on to Big Sur now and start testing properly and with longer sleeps too. If goes well, then jump to bigger displays (5K2K) and an eGPU or two, like 2x 6800XT in Razer Core X boxes. This has been my ultimate goal all the time, like for 1,5 years or so, but the thing was panicing by itself too much to do work reliably with it.

Now, the stable again, I am pretty hopefull I could still use these for work like for a year at least. Until to see the ASi Mac Pro specs, performance, and finally the prices - and then, getting up to chair again from the floor and use 6,1 for years to come..
?

Uptime 11 mins with 6,1 D300 Big Sur, bootrom 430.120.6.0.0 from Monterey beta3.

Just put it manually to sleep, will do the same personally pretty soon ;)
I'll cross my elbows, with all and everything there is to cross, for this to work reliably now.
