I would like to see how fast this perl runs

If you could run in terminal:

uptime; time perl -e 'for (0 .. 1000000000) {}'

and post the output. Should take around 20 seconds to complete.

Congrats on new machine!

Could you please try mudbox / maya maximum polygon count in viewport?

in maya test both Default Veiewport and Viewport 2.0?

I'm only interested in OS X 10.9

Thank you so much hope you will find some time to do that. Would be killer if you could record a screen cap, contact me in pm if you need a direction how to do that! thanks again.

Maya runs fine in both...having no issues at all.

Yeah, i run maya very well on my 680 4gb aswell, but it runs 50% slower in on OS X than in Windows.

I really wanna figure out how much can those dXXX cards handle and how well they run agains Windows, could you please test how many polygons it can handle in viewport 2.0? pretty please screenshot? :)

Intel has it covered , don't worry. Even when coolers fail, the CPU throttles followed by shutting down. It will not kill the system.

Running prime95 is used to prove stability of your system. One of the best tools to prove if a OC is stable.

The OP has nothing to worry about running prime95. I assume that after 10-15 minutes we will have all the info we need.

Project came up and have been rendering in Vray for hours...I've yet to encounter any visible throttling to the computer at all and temps have been pretty stable as well.

But I said step carefully. Thats good advice imo. This is a brand new machine and your asking the OP to run a Prime95 (created for stress testing) on it. There is always some risk involved on a machine that has only just come out to put it through this wouldn't you agree? Especially as the test is designed to overheat your CPU to see what happens.

nah.. it's fine.. no different than kicking the tires on a new car..
@OP- do you mind kicking your mac pro and report back? i'm curious about the durability of the shell. thnks.

Real work, the best kind of testing... :D

mgmx, would you mind running the Heaven benchmark with these presets:

Heaven OpenGL Benchmark -- Extreme Preset (1600x900)
So we can compare:

A d300 runs at 23fps
Thanks!

I won't run Prime95 as I'm not interested in stressing the machine in that way, thanks.

Rendering for about 8 hours now, all frame times are matching similar rates..no sign of throttling.

I had to abandon windows for tonight, will try again in the morning once these renders are completed.

So today's update is as follows: 8.5 hours of straight rendering with 100% CPU load (for all cores) on a 20GB of RAM pushing scene in Vray for Maya has resulted in the machine:

1. Never getting loud...I keep putting my hand over it to see if its hot, and the machine is relatively warm but not too much so (temperature of the room is 75 degrees).

2. As of right now I'm seeing about 80 degrees celsius from the processor. Temperature over time seems to be steady.

3. Internal SSD is showing spikes between 80-99 percent utilization (spikes from when one frame completes till another finishes).

4. Did I mention that it's so quiet that I can't tell it is even rendering at all?

I'd also be interested in seeing the results of that test.

Two back to back tests using this Heaven benchmark.

Two back to back tests using this Heaven benchmark.

Here's the D300 from another post. Anyone mind running the D700's on the extreme preset?

As far as graphics performance then, as expected, the D300 and D500 are about the same?

The d500's strength over the D300 lies only in double precision (generally non graphical) calculations.

Yeah its quite sad, if we can rely on these benchmarks, then nMpro will be useless for serious 3D work.

Thats why i still have hope its magically can outperform maya 680 4gb in Autodesk Maya, but i doubt it.
