Are any of the GPUs more or less susceptible? It seems that the D700s are most likely to fail (which makes sense, since they run the hottest), but it *seems* as if the D300 is the next most frequent. Are D500s more reliable?
From what I read the D300 actually has the highest TDP by a few watts.

Officially:
D300 TDP: <150W
D700 TDP: 274W

However, somebody here in the forum claimed that the GPUs in the Mac Pro 2013 are underclocked and all cards run at about 110W (so that the amount of stream processors is the main difference).

So, I have had a Mac Pro (Late 2013) since 2014. I too have been having these problems for years*. I am currently still running 10.12.6 and the problem is fairly manageable but still crashes. Currently it seems to last a week or two (I always put it to sleep - don't use a screensaver) but when it does crash it usually crashes again an hour or 2 later.

Anyway, just got a crash so thought I would look into running the latest 10.13.3 update. Do you recommend this or would it make it worse?

Mac Pro (Late 2013)
3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB

* Mac got sent away in 2015 and Graphics Board A was replaced. Crashes reappeared a couple of weeks later.

I really would like to know about the 10.13.3 too. Still on 10.12.6.

I've had lock ups with 10.3.3 as has another poster.

After a week of running basically 24/7.. Yesterday and today came to blank screen had to reboot via SSH :(

Such an annoying problem.. machine was basically idling when it goes down at a random time.. this should not be happening..

I modified Kris' terminal code to just show 'vendor driver returns false' logs, as these occur every time I have the lockup.. YMMV

CODE said:
log show --last 30d --predicate 'messageType == fault && sender == "IOAcceleratorFamily2" && NOT eventMessage CONTAINS "unlock" && eventMessage CONTAINS "vendor driver returns false"'

This gives me a clean list of basically the timings when the machine goes down.. this is from yesterday. Curiously, it produced several instances in one go.. reattempts? Machine chimed twice when rebooting..

Seems like I will have to escalate this with Apple can't have this machine crashing whilst working, it's discouraged me from installing my DAW and associated plugins. Does one need to setup a genius appointment via online chat? Never used Apple support before.

Damn. I was on a roll. Two weeks with no crashes since the cards were replaced and just now I got the same error as @FilthyMcNasty:

Code:
panic(cpu 4 caller 0xffffff7f8b7666a0): "bool IOAccelDisplayMachine2::display_mode_did_change(uint32_t): vendor driver returns false"@/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/IOAcceleratorFamily_kexts/IOAcceleratorFamily-378.14/Kext2/IOAccelDisplayMachine.cpp:478

I had classic hang (spinning wheel with dead GUI) 2 days ago on nMP 6c with D500s
macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 (17D47)

Update....few hours later in Windows 10:
Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered

My 2013 has been declared dead for GPU issues by Apple after 3 repair attempts. Currently waiting to see how they'll help me out as I'm a business client.

At one point they had the audacity to tell me that I was driving too many displays with it (2 ATDs and a HDMI TV for client previews) because they couldn't replicate the issue with one display.

I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the design of these machines. I bought the exact same model as your replacement because my quad-core/D300 started to crash in mid 2017. do you know when your system was manufactured? mine's from week 38/2017. and I was under the impression that these newer systems will run 100% stable... well, at least I do have Apple Care until 10/2020.

Paid £600 to get my nMP with d300 repaired at the apple store, they changed GPU B plus some other stuff, still didn't fix the hanging and freezing so I took it back again and they are replacing GPU A now!!!!!!

Ok guys,

We are running a MacPro (D700) bought in 2017(!), running 10.12.6
Since yesterday it crashes/freezes randomly, extremely annoying since we have to finish jobs.
Had one export running over night which worked, but I wasn't able to log in in the morning although sleep mode is disabled. It won't recognize mouse / keyboard, even if I plug it directly into the MacPro.

This sucks. Thinking of updating to High Sierra, but obviously the problem is still there under 10.13?

APPLE DO SOMETHING!!!!

Mac pros with D700 and D500 are eligible for free replacement of the graphics cards. You just need to take it to the apple store or Approved service center. The problem is that some of us have D300 graphics cards which cause the same issues but aren't covered by the free replacement.

This is fine, and we are covered with Apple Care anyway.

It is just so annoying that this happens now when jobs are pending.

No problems using mine with a Dell P2415Q 4K display over mini displayport!

So you have the Late 2013 with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB, and you plug the P2415Q in to one of the Thunderbolt ports and it works at 4k 60hz?

I do a lot of photo/video editing and am ready for a monitor but dont want to be stuck with 4k 24hz or 30hz

I know this post goes about 2013 MacPros, but I've been suffering this problem for a few days now.

My system is composed of a mid-2010 MacPro with 32GB of RAM + ATI Radeon 5770 + DELL 2713H monitor connected through one of the Mini Display Port outputs.

I have been using this system without a problem for more than 4 years, with different internal SSDs for OSX 10.6.8, 10.8.5 and 10.11.6.

Although I had been using only El Capitan for some time, a few days ago I noticed some banding in the gradients.

The native resolution of my monitor is 2560 x 1440 and I have never had this problem before, so I thought that the color depth would have been changed in the control panel. To my surprise, when I opened the control panel I noticed that in El Capitan there is no option to change the color depth.

To see if it was a problem of El Capitan, I tried to boot from Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard, but while the system starts and works (I verified from another computer through shared screen), the screen remains black. Then, I tried connecting the monitor through DVI, verifying that the screen works, but when returning to the Display Port, the screen remains black.

Through DVI the color depth is correct, but 2560 x 1440 resoulition is not usable.

This system and this monitor have always been connected through Mini Display Port working without problems at maximum resolution and depth of color with any OS, including El Capitan. Now, the Display Port outputs only work with El Capitan and only at a reduced color depth, I guess 15 bit. I even ordered a new DP cable, but problem persists.

What could be the problem?

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

Exactly. Works great at 60 Hz.
