I didn't expect an actual announcement of a MP 7,1 today. That said, to keep even more folks like us from defecting to HP/Dell/etc I did expect some hinting. Apple lost a lot content creators during the long wait for 6,1 - at the rate things are going now, the wait for 7,1 might see the defection of the remaining faithful...

Yep my next computer won't be a Mac unless they do something radical like bringing PCIe back. But I don't think there's any real chance of that.

I'm intrigued by the release date for sierra, which signals new hardware across the line isn't ready or there won't be an October/November event.

Either way quite disheartening.

What announcement?

If they make another Mac, IMHO, it will just be a newer version of the can with new guts. Can't innovate my ass said that the can was their vision of the computer for the next decade so they appear pretty committed to that design.:(

Could be like the Apple Edition Gold, that have been 'cough' retired, maybe they will see the error and correct it, or just retire the workstation/flagship Mac. :(

Do you think that is possible to introduce, as a replacement, a new iMac Pro - all in one with better specs than the 5k?
So if they also discontinue the mini too, all of their line will be all in ones, tablets - MacBooks - iMacs, there will be no need for standalone displays too...

Of course in this case, and it's unfortunate, only the MacBooks may have some use in the future for us...

If they have proper eGPU solution and a decent cooling system in the iMac Pro. I don't want to, but don't mind to go for that on my next upgrade (if the price is reasonable).

Pretty soon Apple is going to package up a power cord and call it a computer. Never mind you'll have to connect external "devices" to it in order to make it fully functional.

It's not a power cord, it's an iCord, it will come in rose gold and have a proprietary connector so it will only work with iDevices:D

I'm down with that, too. Really I'm just looking for any reason to jump back to the mac.

They're already halfway there...it's known as the lLightning Connector / port / cable. Now all they have to do is revolutionize it by making it rose gold in color.

Well at least they updated the MP tech specs page with Sierra. So our beloved trash can is still relevant. I guess. :)

I was gonna look for that but since it's only to be released on the 20th I thought nah...
Still, someone there is paying attention to the nMP still.
Good news or not we'll see.
[doublepost=1473413916][/doublepost]macOS Public GM out.
I wonder if it's really the final build or something comes up.
Anyone find anything interesting poking around?
[doublepost=1473414326][/doublepost]I keep wondering why Apple changed the OS name now. I would understand if there was a major overhaul but it doesn't seem the case here. Maybe an interface re-design or whatever.
OK, there are some new things of course (Siri...) but does that warrant a new name?
Just wondering...
[doublepost=1473415209][/doublepost]Just checked, Apple didn't update the page here yet, still says it comes with El Cap, not Sierra.
It was the same thing with the 5K displays some time back, so I guess in a few weeks they'll update.

It's a new feature.:)
[doublepost=1473417964][/doublepost]Anyway it's easier two converge the two operating systems, iOS and macOS, in favor of iOS of course, when they have similar names. OS X was too distant from the rest. Perhaps when we 'll see the MacPad Pro.

Maybe that's it but the convergence doesn't seem that close yet.
And it would make more sense if there was a major overhaul in the OS, even if just cosmetic.
But whatever.
They know better.

First, Previously to this release did their major competitor have "10" in their product name? ( Mac OS X (ten) is competing with Windows 10 ( skipped 9.... right to 10. ). ). Being dissimilar to Windows is part of Apple/Mac marketing identity.

Second, Apple introduced in the last year WatchOS and tvOS. Hmmm, cue Seasme Street music

" one of these things does not look like the other,
one of these things just isn't the same,
can you guess which one before I finish my song. "

iOS , watchOS , tvOS , Mac OS X

as opposed to

iOS , watchOS , tvOS , macOS

before there was watchOS and tvOS which one was "different".

The naming convention is being merged. That doesn 't mean the content is being merged. watchOS and tvOS are basically forks off of iOS. That is the opposite of merging.

dec, you're right. The 10 in the naming might be it.
Sooner or later they will all become the same, I believe that's inevitable.

On another note, good news maybe?!
http://wccftech.com/intel-skylake-xeon-v5-processor-lineup/
Still some time to go surely but those ES are B0 stepping already (L0 for low power SKUs maybe? There's one 105W however).
The PCH leaves me thinking though, C232?! I believe this was supposed to go with the 1S CPUs only, not 2S and up. We'll see.
Caches are odd, and different for B0 and one of the L0 to the other L0.
Maybe some are LCC (the L0 ones) and others are MCC or HCC.
Where's the 8 core? Not mentioned here, odd if there isn't one.
[doublepost=1473518564][/doublepost]Tim Cook says he's committed to the Mac, to stay tuned. Good news coming in?
