Lest we forget, they did make them smaller and lighter (as usual)

THINNER!!! This is basically Jony Ive these days:

I'd be interested to see some real-world performance benchmarks. Actually forget it, there's not way it can compete with even the 6-core nMP, let alone the 12-core nMP. But what I would like to see is the maximum amount of RAM on the top end 15" model. I'd be astonished if it's still stuck at 16GB. I moved over to an XPS 15 for this reason, and what was my temporary laptop is now looking a lot more permanent.
Prepare to be astonished.

They are out to innovate to the detriment of their products which is completely crazy. Apple used to want to be the best but now they are more concerned at being the first.

I can't also understand why the mbp with the touch bar (mbptb?) has less battery capacity and the same operational time with the standard one?

Are they subtracting the touch bar power needs? and again why the same operational time?

Maybe they want them to break more often...
For sure.

If the Mac Pro was discontinued it would be discontinued. If Apple was going to replace it with the Macbook Pro, they would have, and yet it's still on the store.

I'm not sure why there were no desktop Mac announcements today, but my best guess would be Vega.

AMD's PR machine was oddly primed today. Lot's of fuss over... another Polaris release? Would make much more sense if today was going to be Vega's launch party originally.

Doesn't rule out some sort of iMac Pro swooping in. But again, if Apple was discontinuing the Mac Pro, why haven't they discontinued it?

They even took the opportunity today to price adjust it upward in a lot of countries.

Right. If it's canceled it's canceled. Especially if Apple thinks the new Macbook Pro should take it's place. But it's still there on the store...

When Apple cancels things they cancel them. Axing it at the same time as the display or today would have made sense. After a year or two you could argue that Apple is trying to sell off remaining stock. Now it just looks conspicuous. After three years Apple hasn't been able to sell off the remaining stock, and they aren't having a fire sale on them or an EOL announcement?

Look, I don't blame anyone for running to Windows right now with the wait. But if Apple was going to outright cancel it, why do they miss every opportunity to do so?

They're not cancelling it. It's the only machine in the lineup capable of sustained, 100% compute loads. Seriously, if they had just done a spec bump and even made dual under clocked 970s available in 2015, we wouldn't be hearing this much complaining. But they didn't, and haven't given us any indication.

But I don't think it's dead. And $*%^ing enable eGPU already. OFFICIALLY.

well, it was obvious that they were designing themselves into a corner. Any hardware update would take a a lot of customization to fit into the new form factor which means delaying the release for the market.

Should have stuck to the oMP with some minor tweaks ( heck just give us a black version of the chassis ). It still looks classy and has the correct form factor for upgrades and customization.
