With the price drop on the video card -> I already had to place a call to Apple today. I was able to get the $100 price difference back plus free upgraded shipping.:)

While I as at it I took a stab in the dark and asked WHEN? The response I got may be b.s. or canned but between the 30th and the 13th (my online ship date)

what do you mean by that? do you mean that you already ordered it when it was 350 and they gave you 100$ back?

I ordered my system and it has still not came yet, but at the time of placing the order the x1900xt was a $350 upgrade. Today that same upgrade is $250, I decided to call them up and the Apple person I spoke with was able to adjust my price by crediting me $100 to compensate for the difference in price while still being able to hold my place in line by not placing a new order.

They're not going to offer the X1950 XTXs. With this price drop, I frankly don't care, since it's a waste of money getting a high-end card when incredible cards from Nvidia and ATI are scheduled to come out this winter.

I was tempted for about an hour to cancel my order (with the X1900), then just re-order a MacPro with the stock video card and get the X1900 kit seperately. Common sense has prevailed though. LOL I'll just stick with what I have and wait it out, especially since the upgrade kits are now shipping. Should be later today or tomorrow when the MacPros with X1900s ship out. :)

I think the first orders that were placed will ship out later today, and by thursday, all orders that have been placed with the X1900XT as of today, will be shipped.

I have been away in meeting all day and I get home and get this e-mail from Apple "RE: Your Apple Order #___" My heart almost stopped ... haha. Alas, they were just telling me about the price drop and they have extended the price difference as a courtesy.

Ah shucks ... but hey, can't complain about getting a little of my small fortune spent returned to me  Now just ship the things already :)

If I had an additional $1,200 (which I don't) I might be tempted to re-order with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 ... shipping time on that config even with wireless is 3-5 business days.

I am not all that technically savvy on video cards so I have no idea if this would be a wise move even if I was able to do it. I just can't see plopping down that much on a video card unless it is really worth it's weight in gold.

So I might as well ask the question while we all wait: what would be the advantages of the NVIDIA 4500 over the ATI 1900 in the specific area of graphic design and video production? (sorry, I have no interest in gaming so that could really mean less) :)

if your going to use shake or maya (when it comes universal) then it is a great investment (or any other graphics programs requring open gl)

or if you plan on running a ton of monitors.

alot of graphics professionals only use quadrofx, semi's use quad or a nice geforce, which is why i wish apple would just offer a higher end nvidia card =|

I am just learning Shake and do not plan right now to get into really heavy 3D effects. I do anticipate using Motion and Aperture a lot and heard they are beasts to video cards. I will be using dual 30" monitors with this system.

I am getting genuinely curious if I will see that drastic an improvement with the NVIDIA over the ATI. This is probably a bad place to pose such a question ... I'll do a little hunting ;)

My Mac Pro with the ATI card just slipped two weeks to 28th September. The Apple Online Store said that this was due to a manufacturing problem at one of the plants and that many Mac Pro orders have had to be cancelled and re-ordered to be produced at the other facility...

...has anyone else been told the same?
