Ok. Bootcamp is installed. I installed BF2.

Battlefield 2 absolutely HAULS! I turned everything on max, including draw distance. It runs like butter.

Call of Duy 2 is up next, then Far Cry.

Lite butter? The only reason I will install windows on my box is for BF2 :D - So.. You should now say it SCREEEAMS ? :D

Will it be OK to install on a PATA drive if there's cables for it ? - I have a windows IDE drive that i want to plugin. Would that work ?

- Make a custom Windows Install disc containing the appropriate intel drivers to fix the performace of SATA hard disks.

So hitting F6 of what it is wont do the work (Load SCSI/SATA drivers from disk) ?

My Mac Pro came today and I'm really liking OSX a lot! (my first mac)

It's going to take me a while to get used to the change over from Windows.

On the back of the Mac Pro, there are to optical ports (in and out). On mine only the out is glowing red. Is this normal?

Well, the Mac Pro (with X1900) I ordered this last Wednesday (the 6th) has shipped and due for delivery this coming Monday!! Awesome.

Are there really still people still waiting on shipments (in the US)?
Ok, so I am not from the US, but I didn't think that Canada or US made that big a difference. I ordered last Sunday (sept 3rd) and it didn't ship yet!!

I ordered on August 7th and am still waiting -- I live in the US (Maine) -- Canada on 3 sides!

Ordered:

3.00 GHz Quad Xeon
1GB 667 DDR2 FB DIMM ECC-2x512
ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB
250GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s drive
16x SuperDrive DL
Apple Keyboard & Mighty Mse
iWorks '06
Mac OS X
Country Kit

I understand the initial delay due to the late video cards, but others with this configuration, both in US and Canada, have received theirs and had later order dates! Apple really should process these in order!

That is so weird, it really doesn't look like they are shipping in the order of the order date and that is really the way it should be.

Yes. :(

Frankly, as long as they ship it to me within the window that they indicated (by September 18), I'll have no cause for complaint. If it turns into something like we had with the Dual G5s a few years back, I'll start screaming.

That's not to say that I don't want it now. Of course I do. I just don't think it's all that material if someone else orders something after I do and gets it before I do. Now, if they order the EXACT same config that I ordered, maybe I'd grumble.

You would need to re-install Windows onto it, because of the drivers/etc needed. If this is to save money, okay, but if not, just get a SATA drive and format it with Disk Utility to be a MBR disk.

So hitting F6 of what it is wont do the work (Load SCSI/SATA drivers from disk) ?

Well, does the Mac Pro have a floppy drive to make it work? Can't load drivers off a floppy when you don't have a floppy drive.

Are you guys running windows with the standard boot camp installer or are you using the advanced route and installing all those extra drivers at the beginning. I'm just curious because my mac pro is coming at the end of the month and I was wondering whether I need to go the advanced route to get "SCREAMING" graphics when playing games under windows.

Well if you wan't to get past the SATA hard drive issue, you'll need to go the "advanced route".

Drivers i can install after mounted and booted from. No, it's not about money, it's about the fact that i have ~500G of IDE drives laying around and i don't want to get another one :D

:D Kinda feel stupid there... Always forgets that you can't load drivers from anything else than floppy (Yes, have done that loads of times, but - yes, i forget anyway :D

Shipping

Alright,

as everyone else here on the list feels they want to tell the rest of us that their lovely machine hasn't shipped :D

Ordered mine from Apple Store on the 20:th of August. Estimated shipping date where 29:th of September.

Got a email confirmation this Wednesday saying "Hey - we shipped it".

Logged on AppleTracker and noticed that it was hanging around at Cork from 6:th to 7:th without doing anything (Guess it takes time to travel from their mounting unit to TNT or something..)

On the 9:th it was handed over to Flextronics and now it's in their hands to be taken over to TNT/FedEX/Whatever i guess. Should arrive at the latest next Friday (YEaaa).

Live in Europe/Sweden.

Configs are:
2.66 Ghz model
2 Gig ram
160 Gig SATA
ATI 1900XT
BT
+ standard **** :)

No offense but that's sort of good to hear. LOL I ordred August 19th and mine hasn't shipped yet, best estimate according to Apple is the 13th which I hope is true. I've seen people who ordered the same day as me as well as after get theirs shipped.

I wouldn't place too much stock in Apple's estimates of shipping dates. I called Apple at 1pm on Thursday of last week to ask when I'd get my Mac Pro. The lady I spoke to told me that it would ship on or before the 25th - as it said on my order. Five hours later, I got an email from Apple telling me it had shipped! Built, tested, packaged and dispatched in a mere five hours - impressive!

Originally:

Ordered: 20th August
Shipping: 25th September
Delivery: 27th September

In reality:

Ordered: 20th August
Shipped: 7th September
Delivery: 12th September (according to the tracking)

Apple really need to sort out their shipping - it's a complete farce!

I seriously wonder if some of you guys whose systems aren't meant to ship until late would be better off calling Apple and re-submitting the order since they are now meant to ship in 2-4 days?

Apple rep told me (and again take this with a grain of salt because of their apparent lack of knowledge in certain areas) that the reason some are shipping earlier even though they were ordered later is because of the warehouse the order was submitted to.

This makes a little sense if it is true. So basically if your order got submitted to a warehouse and they are way behind, someone who ordered later than you could get theirs quicker if theirs was submitted to a warehouse that was getting them done quicker or whatever

But then again, I thought there were only like two locations (in the US) that the systems were shipping from. So this probably negates that theory anyway.

Don't you hate when you call Apple and you as the customer know more than their reps and have to *explain* things to them so they do it right?

Yes, yes I do. When I called yesterday to try and get an estimate, I actually called twice just in case. First person gave me the "on or before 19th" estimate, no help.... Called a second time a couple of hours later and managed to get a "earliest day it will ship will be the 13th". So hopefully that is the day... I hope it is.

Just yesterday I called about adding the X1900 back in as a CTO option since my ship date was pushed back more and adding the X1900 back in would not affect my new estimated time frame.

Anyway, I explained in detail what I wanted to do and she put me on hold to make the changes. Five minutes later she came back and said "You can't have the X1900 as a BTO option, it only comes as an upgrade kit."

Umm ... hello? We eventually got it worked out after an hour or so on the phone and several other problems on her end.

And on the tenth day of our ordeal a sacrifice was made to the gods; Woodcrest, Tiger, and FB-DIMM, that we might flee the lands of the evil Windows XP, before the date prophesied by the book of Apple online store. And though we have been delivered the righteousness and gloriousness of the 30" ACD, and though we have battled the peoples of Crucial for another 2 GB's of RAM, we are still forsaken.
.. Alas the gods were not appeased, and our ordeal continues.

So anyone know how to get sheep’s blood off of an AMD 64 (does run a little cooler know though).

 She should have just came back and said "you can't have one...."

It's ironic, this is the first Mac I've ordered direct from Apple. For the past few years I've just bought them from the MacMall retail store in Torrance since it's just down the street. I'm ordering this MacPro because I thought it'd ship sooner (knowing Apple takes care of it's orders first, then the resellers). Just plain frustrating and baffling....

Windows Bootcamp &/or Parallels question now that my Mac Pro has shipped

Congrats to all those reading this forum whose MPs have shipped. For those who are still waiting, don't believe the Apple order status page - they are catching up now and what's listed is the worst case scenario.

So now that my MP with x1900xt is on the way, I have BC/Parallels questions.

First, I've read that you need XP Pro to recognize all 4 cores on the MP - is that in fact true, i.e., XP Home doesn't cut it and don't bother!

Next, if you want to do BC with XP and also Parallels, do you have to have two licenses or, if you only have one license, do you have to choose one or the other implementation, because you can't do both.

Thirdly, if you have to choose between BC and Parallels, which do you guys with a delivered MP recommend - BC to get all the performance or Parallels to get all the convenience. Sucks if you have to choose!

Interested in your thoughts. Thanks. A proud Switcher!!!
