Mine arrived today. :D

Ordered Aug 8th with 1900XT and Airport extreme. Was delayed because of config. As of the other day it was scheduled to be delivered on 25Sept. Nice surprise!

Well ... the Apple rep yesterday said my Mac Pro was moved into production. How long does it take them to build it? My credit card has not been pre-authorised either.

Is "in production" different from "being built"? Maybe the rep didn't know what she was talking about. My ESD is getting awfully close. I don't want them to miss it for a second time ...

BTW: I have been frequenting this forum and several others watching excited people report theirs ship/arrive. From what I can tell all the Aug 7 orders have been fulfilled. Anyone who ordered right after the keynote still waiting for theirs to ship?

Ordered the same day as keynote. Still havent got it. What a PITA. I come here everyday and read how people are getting their's and yet I wait.

Waiting sucks. :)

Raise some Hell, that's not acceptable that you have to wait while they figure out a box you never accepted, call your credit card company, file a dispute.

Talked to apple again. They are "sending this to logistics" which is 3~7 business days to find out if it was shipped or now, then they will file a claim with FedEx to get my money back.

I think it's time for another FAX to Steve.

Ordered mine on the 20th of August and due to some assorted Apple screw ups delivery date got pushed to 10th of October. Gave them a lil hell and the baby arrived today.

I'm in love with TNT btw. They tried to ship today at 1pm (idiots) and I missed that. I called them (5pm) to tell them when to come tomorrow and they offered to bring it today at 9pm. And they did. Never had that kind of service from FedEx/UPS.

PS sweet jesus that x1900 is big.

It arrived! It already took my a long time to take apart my whole setup (so I could clean), it's going to take me a while to put it back together too. I took plenty of unpacking picks including inside the MP, I'll post those later.

Downloading the Quake 4 demo right now to try out the grapihcs. MacOS X build is 8K1124. Once I get everything plugged in I still need to transfer the data from my PowerBook (I didn't want to use Migration Assistant).

I'm also downloading Boot Camp... but I won't be installing XP until later today I think.

FedEx missed me yesterday, but I got my baby today. It seriously kicks ass, I haven't even done any 3D stuff on it yet and know that much.

I can play two 1080p streams simultaneously without frame drops though, probably more.

I am now typing to you from my Mac Pro 2.66GHz with an ATI1900 in it.

Whee

INstalling WOW. I had to nuke it off my old Mac for space. Downloading Vista RC1 to try that out, not going to buy Windows XP this close to Vista launch.

This close? I thought it was going to be another 6 months or so...

Remember, this is Microsoft Time, not Apple Time. When it's 5 years between operating systems six months is close. :D

Last I heard it was January.

Came standard with the X1900XT and 4 x 512mb Ram

Sorry if I sound a little stupid but are you saying that Apple Stores have upgraded Mac Pros with X1900 XT graphics cards in them in stock? I haven't paid yet for my Mac Pro, the cheques will get sent off tomorrow but if there's any chance that the Apple Store in London would have one with the graphics card in it that I could reserve then I'd be very tempted to get the train up!

The Apple Store in Edison, New Jersey has the base 2.66GHz model, as well as a 3.0GHz model that also includes the X1900XT video card as well as 4 X 512mb of ram. Those where the only two options they had, you could purchase either model and add additional ram, hard drives, or wireless/BT module. They did not have any stand alone video cards (7300GT or X1900XT). So if you want to buy a MacPro with the X1900XT in an Apple Store you have to buy the 3.0GHz model or buy a CTO online.

Damn, the 3Ghz model is way out of my budget unless I were to go for a smaller screen and I'm not really willing to do that right now. Oh well. I can get the X1900 XT at a fairly decent price later on down the line with my Educational discount and if I sold the 7300 GT for £60 then I'd only be out of pocket by about £35. :)

I hear ya - the 3.0GHz is also out of my price range but due to FedEx buggering up my shipment Apple refunded my money as well as gave me some credit for a future purchase which was all well and good. But by passing along the trials I went through to the Apple Store sales person I was rewarded with an "I think we can help you out with a discount", which only made the 3.0GHz about $100 plus tax more than my CTO 2.66GHz (if taking into account the credit apple has given me for future purchases)

Yeah if I were given such a deal I'm sure I'd pay the extra money to get the 3Ghz. You must be pretty chuffed at how the situation was resolved!! I don't think I'd ever be able to get that kind of deal anyway though since I can purchase with a Higher Education discount (normally between 14 and 16%), which is already a lot of money off.

Apple Lied to me.
my Mac Pro appears to be sitting on a shipping dock somewhere.
FedEx was just notified of the shipment and will be picking it up tomorrow.

3 days of BS.

Well yes to an extent - the upgrade was well appreciated for $100 but knowing that the system I picked up from the Apple Store was in there possession for about 3-4 days (while I was waiting for my slower machine, only to realize that it wasn't coming).

I am great-full for how Apple handled the situation, but almost would have rathered not having to shell out the extra $100 and wait, but have the slower system sooner/my extra $100/and the ability to enjoy this weekend(client's work has been backing up due to the shipping problems - hopefully the extra speed will make me work harder:p )

Yeah yeah, the way this is going, the buyer's guide is going to be saying "don't buy now, updates soon", before these machines make their way home to some of us ;)

I love this new Mac Pro!

Well first things first: this was the easyest upgrade I have ever done
I just plugged it in to the new 23" ACD and my 2 La Cie 500 gig Firewire 800 drives set up my old 17" 1.333 ghz powerbook in Firewire 800 targer mode when I was prompted and 70 gig was transfered with only 2 hitches the Microsoft mouse software did not transfer (no loss as I use the Logotech MX1000 wireless laser mouse (while I like the ball on the new Apple multi button mice I do not much care for the rest I have huge hands and last mouse I realy liked was monster in ADB spec that was sold in 3 or 4 sizes like gloves! I think the new apple mouse would be fine in a small hand but I like ergometric mice) and the ZININO reader will not authrise......
at firewire 800 speeds the 70 gigs of stuff from my powerbook took about 40 to 50 min start to launching WOW! with all controles at max I have not seen less than 60fps outside in quiet places more than twice that...

Aperture 1.1.2 has turned into a fantastic functional application for dealing with all of my photos... it was such a slug on the powerbook I realy did not even try to do real work on it it has fully justified my getting this computer

for fun I tried http://daugerresearch.com/fractals/powerfractal.shtml
which lets you see the 4 cores in action I was getting between 21,025 and 23,032 MegaFlops with all 4 and just under 5,000 on just one core
( the computer kept quiet even when it was doing these runs)

I have no access to a PC so I have no way to make the needed slipstream install disk to try boot camp so unless some kind soul with access to a PC can make me a slipstreamed SATA fix disk for boot camp my new copy of XP Pro SP2 will stay in its shrink wrap (or it will once it turns up from new egg!)

so in short I really am amazed at how good this computer is...
Mac Pro 3 Ghz 2 gig of ram (4X 512) 500 gig HD Airport/Bluetooth, ATI X1900 XT, 2 La Cie FireWire 800 500 Gig externals and a LaCie super DVD burner with light scribe etc etc in a matching case (this drive is kept set so I can use it on my British DVDs the internal super drive is kept on region 1 that way I do not have to mess with chaseing down the region free patches), iSight
Randolph
PS in the AM I will get out my old 15" Apple spring stalk LCD ( 2ed version with the darker plastic and the proper digital Conector) to just plug into the card this will provide me with pallett space for my CAD design work with Concepts Unlimited... while it will get the job done I think I really want to save my coins for another 23" so it will look all nice and zoomey
