Well mine was due to ship today, and it did, with some no name compay I have never heard of. Now for the final home stretch of the wait.
Well, since you're in Canada, it's probably "Sameday Right O Way". Their service is horrible. My Mac Pro shipped saturday and there wasn't any tracking information until tonight (5 days later). Now that there's tracking information, it's showing that it's in Richmond, BC and that I'll get it next wednesday. There's basically no tracking information until the parcel is in canada and I can't believe it took them 5 days to go from Fullertown California to Richmond BC. It'll probably be faster for you since you're in BC.

I ordered my Mac Pro on 9/8/06.

My estimated ship date is 9/15/06. I can't wait. Ever since last friday i have been constantly checking the Apple store website. As soon as i get up tomorrow i am going to check. Hopefully they have shipped it. If they ship from fullerton that would be awesome since it is the next city over from me. :)

My ship date is the same day ... but I ordered mine on Aug 23 and Apple kindly messed up my order multiple times. That and the fact that they delayed my ESD by a week (it was supposed to ship *last* week)

Let me just say I am not holding my breath that mine will ship tomorrow. They told me it was being built when I called on Tuesday and again on Wednesday ... so who knows

Good luck with yours though! I am holding out with the sole thought that it will all be worth it when this is over ;)

So is the general consensus that the Arctic Cooling thing unnecessary?
If you're looking for a system that has the silence of a cube or you just can't stand fan noise to any extent, sure. If you don't mind a slight whir/hum, there's nothing to be worried about. This might be the same case as the G5, but noise wise? You can't compare the two, at all. That's just my opinion though.

Is the ATI X1900X card super loud?! I'm pushing two 23 inch displays, but I don't think it should be this loud? The fans haven't shut off, and they have a super loud whirring sound.

Are you doing anything to really push it? I'm not doing anything graphics intensive at all right now and if I didn't know the card was in there, I wouldn't know it had a fan. If it's whirring real loud, all the time, then there might be a problem. Try running something really graphics intensive, see if it still does it. If it still does it, maybe try running just one display and see what that does?

Just as a note, I'm pushing my system full force, and the noise level is actually quieter than my old G4 Dual 500. :) Except every once in awhile the fans gear up to high, then it is rather noisy...

Unless it comes like the iPod I ordered for my missus, came in through Anchorage (sp?), down the coast to California, over to Tennessee, up to Ontario, then back across the country to Richmond  even I haven't seen that much of the continent in one trip! I'm guessing since your is comming to you via Richmond, mine will come via NFLD :D

Edit: the iPod, came via fedex, the MP is comming via Sameday, lovely, just went to check my "shipping status" and got a "page can't be displayed" error for Sameday, oh well at least that was quicker than the page load times from earlier today :D with their site.

FYI, as I noted earlier I have MacOS X build 8K1124. I tried out Parallels earlier today and it panicked the instant I clicked the "Run" button (before installing Windows).

I've got the same build on my Mac Pro. My system locks up solidly if I try and install XP from Parallels. It gets as far as the initial blue screen for the first stage of the XP setup but no further.

Boot Camp, on the other hand, works fine, aside from the fact that I get all audio output from the front speaker, not my external ones.

Trying not to get my hopes up, but ......

I just got off the phone with Apple and talking with a semi-grumpy rep. I asked if it was really going to ship out today and she gave me the rehearsed line "Your ESD is..." So I asked if she could tell me if the computer was still being built since I had called several days before and that is what they told me. She then replied "All I can tell you is it is being prepared for shipment ... Umm, I mean, your ESD is..." I perked up and pushed her again but she locked up and all she would say is "All I can tell you is your ESD"

Maybe this is good news?

Yeah i know how you feel...

It sucks that they are taking soo long on your machine. I have been waiting impatiently this whole week. I would hate to be waiting all the time that you are having to wait. I am sure that i am going to love this machine. I am switching from PC to Mac Pro, i already had an ibook and really like it alot, but it just isn't powerfull enough for all the things i want to do with it. So now i am making the jump to all mac computers. I know that it is going to be an awesome experience. I have always thought macs were the better computer. They innovate instead of copy, that is what i love the most about them. : )

Hopefully you get your Mac Pro really soon.

Later,
Steve

Hey! Welcome to the family! :D You definitely will be blown away ... and you'll never be back. I have had the good fortune to grow up in a Mac family .... from the all-in-one beige boxes ... lol

Thanks for the encouragement too ;) What was someone saying a while ago about a support group? Yeah, I think we need it :D

It's unnecessary if you've no interest in lowering the fan noise by 75% or reducing your card temp by 10C. For me, I'm going to give it a try.

What are you wanting it to do? Suck the sound out of the room?

On my Mac Pro with the ATI 1900 in it I can hold a DB meter in the room and with the computer on and running there is no discernable difference in the db level per the meter.

What are you doing that kicks the fan on? i can't seem to get it too.

If for nothing else, I've had two ATI retail cards' fans go bad. My current X800 has a fan that's grinding and dying. Luckly I'm swaping that fan off as well with an Artic Cooler that arrived today (along with my X1900 fan).

It's 75% quieter, makes the card run cooler, and has a better made fan assembly to keep my $399 video card cool. Why wouldn't you invest $25 for that peace of mind?

Because what is on there already works just fine thanks, and I've got a three year warranty to take care of it when it breaks and doesn't.

Ordered mine TODAY!

My config:
Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
1GB Ram (2x512)
250GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3GB/s HD (I though about getting the smaller one, but decided that since it'll be awhile until I get the Raptor for booting and the trio of 750GB drives for the RAID0 scratch/capture, I'll need the space and don't want two drives (the 160GB from Apple and a second drive of some sort) that will just sit around)
Both Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and Airport Extreme
Two 16x SuperDrives
ATI Radeon x1900 XT 512MB (2 x dual-link DVI)

and I was able to get the AppleCare with this order (as opposed to waiting).

I thought I was excited about this machine. Well, my son found out about it and went nuts...N-V-T-S, nuts! For the first time, he'll be able to play on battle.net and we will be able to play together. He's using his birthday money to buy a copy of Diablo II: LOD as soon as we can find the cheapest price.

I am STOKED!

Says ship time is 2-4 business days.
Delivery is within 5 days.

So sometime the week of September 25th.

Now I gotta buy a desk that I can set it up on...(more "assembly required" furniture....greeaaaaat...)

Since you're in Los Angeles, it won't be 5 days. Probably in the same day or the next day.

I would start rioting by now if I were you.

I truely don't know what to do ... I can't take it out on the phone reps because they have nothing to do with it and only know so much. I suppose I could file a claim with BBB. But in the grand scheme of things I doubt that will do much.

I am just at a loss ... I have never had an experience this bad with Apple. Not that they are above such things ... they are a company like any other. But seriously, how long can they delay things like this??? :(
