so... any benchmarks on oblivion yet,...anyone :), i would try it myself, but i still have to order mine, and since I broke my f***ing leg last night i'm not really able to go to the store and order it their (i'm not a online buyer but maybe i will do it this time) and yes i shearched the net for benchmarks, and i know it will react the sameway as it does on any other pc with the same specs, but still, i would love to know thx :)

After hearing everyone talk about it, I decided to go get a copy. I must say, the game is pretty huge in scope and scale. Well, with everything maxed, bloom on and 6X antialiasing, I get really smooth gameplay. Load times are tiny, and I've never noticed stuttering frames. I don't have an exact framerate, but it's smooth!

Got mine. Came with the SMC update already installed. Had to do the firmware update, however.

Setup my RAID 0 array (WD5000YS) for 1 TB of storage and it's FAST! Also turned on AAM from Windows and it's QUIET too! :D

Kept the stock drive as my Windows drive and got Boot Camp installed, no problem. 58 security updates later, Windows works great.

No problems with the machine. Had to pick jaw up off the floor playing WoW @ 1680x1080 x4 FSAA with all graphics options maxxed out. Amazing.

Only complaint is that the stock cooler on the X1900 has to go; card gets too loud for my tastes. Fortunately I have my Accelero X2 sitting right here, ready to go. :)

Amazing machine. Very pleased!

Well nice to see the order time to ship time decrease rather dramatically for the X1900. Hopefully when I order mine next month (I hope) it will be down to about a week tops.

Decided I'm going with...

2.66ghz
1gig of ram (eh... ram is easy to upgrade a tad later)
x1900 (that's where my second gig of ram went, forgive me? ;)
Airport/BT
AppleCare (more of where my third gig of ram went ;)
23" ACD

I figure I'll snag an extra two gigs of ram by the end of the year, hoping prices will go down for the pre-heatsinked ones. I won't be doing too much that will require the extra ram right away. But once I get the camera below, Aperature will love the extra ram. XCode will survive for awhile I guess. My only concern is Safari.. the ram monger... argh.

I already have two Seagate 320gig 7200.10's waiting for it. Thus I will be going with the standard hard drive.

Now... just gotta save up a bit more money to order, and then start saving for my D80 and goodies ;)

I can't wait. I'm already psyched and I haven't even ordered.

Let me know how the Accelero X2 works out for you. I used to have one on my 7800GTX on my PC, but I'm wondering how well it works on the Mac Pro since it doesn't exhaust air from the case.

Congrats. Mine came today. I was unable to boot my G5 into target disk mode, so the software installs and data transfer took my the better part of the day. I went for the same RAID 0 array, which blows me away.

Tomorrow is Windows install day. Looking forward to those 58 security updates...

There are several user reports floating around, but yes, it will fit. One user saw a 10C temp drop with the Accelero X2 and the unit makes no noise, even under full load.

Yes, replacing the fan will void the warranty. Not sure if there's anything preventing you from putting the stock cooler back on in the event of a problem. Well, nothing aside from ethics. ;)

Is it really worth it though?

I'm just now installing UT2004 and we'll see if my opinion changes but running WoW in full screen mode at the highest resolution on my 23" ACD with every option turned on and maxed out my machine is silent.

What will upgrading to this thing give me besides a voided warranty? I don't see any upside.

The X1900 XT I received was in fact clearly noisy, while in "idle mode", compared to my silent Mac Pro ... when starting some game under XP transformed it to an airplane takeoff !

May be the X1900 XT shipped with the Mac Pro have a different design of the one shipped as an upgrade ?? (mine was an upgrade)

Probably not normal. ;)

Maybe you're due with a replacement?

Must be you.

after playing for an hour solid on UT2004 with it set to max everything at 1900x1200 on my ACD 23" I was averaging over 120fps with no noise from my computer.

Give it something harder, like an extended WoW session, and it'll speed up. Perhaps it's my config (three drives, 4 sticks of memory) but the X1900 does speed up and make more noise under load.

Clearly this isn't a concern for you so I'm not sure why you're begruding those of us who are modding the Accelero X2 into our systems.

Hey all!

Could any1 please make hires photos of both sides of the Mac version of X1900XT? Over at strangedogs forum we are trying to convert regular PC one to EFI and we are almost done but have graphics output scrambled...

Also I would appriciate AtiTool screenshoot Settings/Overclocking and Settings/Voltages.

My MacPro 2.66 with X1900 is supposed to be delivered by the first of next week... maybe even by Friday if I'm lucky. I only live 30 miles or so from where they are assembled. I already have my new 23" ACD sitting in a box waiting. Tomorrow I'm going to order a couple of drives to setup Raid0.

My current computer is a G4 500mhz Titanium laptop with an 8mb video card and about 750mb ram. Do you think I'll notice a speed difference? :D I bought it in 2001 and it's served me faithfully over the years doing Flash and web design. It's on it's 3rd hard drive and it just keeps chugging along. I've recently gotten into video compositing and my render times are insane on the laptop. I've become very familiar with the rainbow spinner!

I wonder how long it will take before the MacPro feels as slow as my Ti book does today?

Order confusion

I order my BTO mac pro on Tuesday, once i'd tripped it out with x1900xt, extra ram and bt+airport and dropped the HD, it had a build time of 3 days.

Anyway hit the button on Tuesday afternoon, checked the status yesterday and it said it's shipped as of the 27th. Now the next line says estimated delivery on the 6th of October (10 days! is that delivery by snail). But on the line below that it reads:

Current Delivery Status In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule 29 Sep 2006

I don't get it. I'm now assuming its going to be with me tomorrow. There's no tracking number so i can't call the shipping company. Some German firm called Kuhne & Nagel Spedition s.a r. Never heard of them

Anyone seen anything similar?

I'll be stoked if its true.

M :D

do they sell any mac pros with the x1900 XT at the apple store?

I am wondering this too. I have read conflicting reports about this. When the Mac Pros had been released I had heard that the Retail Apple Stores could basically build to order it with most of the options, but then I saw people saying otherwise. Keep in mind this could have been because it was before the X1900XT cards had even started shipping from the online apple store, so that could be a big part of it.

I am looking to get a 2.66ghz system upgraded with 2gb ram and the radeon x1900xt card very soon and would rather get it in person.

So yeah, do they sell build to order macs at the retail stores?

i'm wondering about that too, but i think it will be completely possible in abouth a month or 2, but for the time beeing i don't believe they have the 1900XT in the apple stores, but if so, i will be a verry happy man :)
